Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you a high net worth individual? Then the wealth management rules are different for you. Mark Tepper rightly assures us that we should all consider ourselves wealthy if we have the resources to live the lives we want to live without compromise. However, if you fall into one of his higher-net-worth categories, you will find that Exceptional Wealth is speaking directly to you. Tepper, author of the acclaimed Walk Away Wealthy, stresses that if you are someone with a high net worth, you have to realize that managing your wealth is complex. He clearly outlines key steps and sophisticated strategies that experienced professional financial advisors should be implementing for you. Each high net worth individual has unique and different forms of wealth, investments, and objectives. Consequently, individual and special family needs demand specifically tailored financial plans and approaches. Good investment management might have made you wealthy, but Tepper solidly brings home the point that only proper wealth management will keep you wealthy. Those whose wealth exceeds $1,000,000 will likely benefit most from the keys and myths that Tepper outlines, but this book is relevant for anyone looking to take the next step in wealth accumulation and preservation. The bottom line, as Tepper advises, is the following: Prosperous individuals require a higher level of sophistication when it comes to optimizing their financial affairs.

In Becoming Rich, you'll not only learn the precise details of how you can use Magic to transform your entire financial world and start bringing money flowing to you. So, why Magic? Only a few years ago I lived in a tiny flat, working twelve hours a day in a factory for minimum wage. Today, I live in a beautiful home by the sea, often earning more in one month than I used to in an entire year. In this book you will discover the steps that enabled me to turn my financial life around in this amazing, life-changing way. The change in my financial circumstances was so dramatic, it makes more sense to describe it as involving Magic than anything else. And when money starts to come tumbling your way in a manner that goes far beyond mere coincidence and luck, you will no longer doubt that Magic exists. Yet my finances were actually the last thing I mastered 'magically'. I felt cursed, blocked, financially stuck for ages. But having got things right once or twice, I went on to discover that, even after a lifetime of poverty, money turned out to be the very easiest thing of all to manifest using Magic. And I went on to bring an unbelievable amount of money into my life. If you're jaded by the whole New Age Law of Attraction idea, or have become bored by its failure to deliver… this book is for you. Because this is a practical book, offering concrete techniques and instructions for bringing wonderful things into your life. You're looking at this book because you need money, and it's now time to bring that money into your life. The plan is to build your knowledge slowly, gradually, building on what has gone before, moving on to more complex techniques only once the basics are mastered. So many people fail with Magic and the Law of Attraction because they rush headlong into using techniques, trying to create enormous manifestations, trying to manifest huge sums of money off the bat … but making very simple yet crucial mistakes. When they are disappointed, they imagine they have been duped. The sceptics are right. This is just a load of nonsense. Then they give up, declaring it just doesn't work. But I can assure you it does work. And you can make it work. This book will show you how. My intention is make sure that Becoming Rich will allow you to become a true creator of your own financial life, reawakening and rekindling your belief and interest in The Law of Attraction, Reality Creation, Cosmic Ordering or whatever you wish to call it. I prefer simply to call it Magic.

Book excerpt: The Taxable Investor's Manifesto: Wealth Management Strategies to Last a Lifetime is written for every investor with taxable wealth and every advisor who serves them. The Taxable Investor's Manifesto guides readers through a series of related topics, bringing clarity to complexity with an economy of words, while providing valuable and actionable advice at every turn. This remarkable book combines the deep industry knowledge of a seasoned practitioner with the communication skills of a leading educator. Author Stuart E. Lucas is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Wealth Strategist Partners, a firm that advises complex family enterprises, including his own. He also co-founded the University of Chicago’s Private Wealth Management program, now in its fourteenth year. Most investment books only address pre-tax headline returns, but individuals pay taxes. The incentives and disincentives of our tax system can have a dramatic impact on actual investment time horizons and returns. The Manifesto sensibly folds tax incentives into investment strategy in ways that can add profound value over a lifetime to actual results. It includes guidance on: How to keep a greater percentage of your profits with a higher probability of success and less effort Why it’s important to manage the intersection of investment, tax and estate planning How to compete for better long-term investment returns against tax-exempt investors. Whether you're a young professional or entrepreneur, a mid-career manager, a senior business executive, or a retiree this book will give you tools to enhance your net worth considerably. If you are an advisor, studying and implementing Lucas's advice will strengthen your business and make your clients happier.

Book excerpt: The essential guide to selling your business—and walking away with maximum wealth Nearly every entrepreneur dreams of one day selling their business for big bucks, but far too many aren’t aware of exactly what it takes to do so. The sobering truth is that it’s very easy for the entrepreneurs who don’t know what they’re doing to walk away from a sale without the financial freedom they hoped for. In fact, only about 20 percent of businesses for sale will successfully transfer to another owner! In Walk Away Wealthy, Mark Tepper--a leading authority on wealth management and financial planning for entrepreneurs--shows you how to build a strong exit plan, an absolute requirement if you hope to get the full value from a sale. Tepper’s twelve secrets debunk myths and deliver practical advice as he walks you through what most people don’t know (or refuse to believe) about the process of planning their exit. And although it’s best to start planning the exit as early as possible, the book also delivers advice for those who may have waited too long and feel lost in the face of a rapidly approaching sale. Selling the business you worked so hard to build can be a confusing and intimidating proposition. Let Mark Tepper clear away the misconceptions, steer you clear of common mistakes, and help you walk away wealthy!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contemporary America, the racial wealth gap is growing, with families transmitting race and class inequalities from generation to generation. Yet Americans continue to hold deep-rooted beliefs in the principles of individualism, equal opportunity, and meritocracy. Education, the "Great Equalizer," is supposed to level the playing field, ensuring that every child—regardless of family of origin—gets an equal chance at success. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 200 black and white families, The American Dream and the Power of Wealth starkly reveals the enormous extent to which parents defend their beliefs in the values that lie at the heart of the American Dream. Yet the way wealth is acquired and the way it is used categorically puts children from different families on vastly different educational trajectories, leaving them with uneven sets of opportunities.

Book excerpt: An in-depth political, legal, and philosophical study into the implications of wealth inequality in modern societies. Wealth, and specifically its distribution, has been a topic of great debate in recent years. Calls for justice against corporations implicated in the 2008 financial crash; populist rallying against “the one percent”; distrust of the influence of wealthy donors on elections and policy—all of these issues have their roots in a larger discussion of how wealth operates in American economic and political life. In Wealth a distinguished interdisciplinary group of scholars in political science, law and philosophy address the complex set of questions that relate to economic wealth and its implications for social and political life in modern societies. The volume thus brings together a range of perspectives on wealth, inequality, capitalism, oligarchy, and democracy. The essays also cover a number of more specific topics including limitarianism, US Constitutional history, the wealth defense industry, slavery, and tax policy. Wealth offers analysis and prescription including original assessment of existing forms of economic wealth and creative policy responses for the negative implications of wealth inequality. Economic wealth and its distribution is a pressing issue and this latest installment in the NOMOS series offers new and thought provoking insights.

Book excerpt: "We Need to Talk: A Memoir About Wealth gives voice to an experience millions share, but no one discusses: what it's like to be rich. The book is an honest, personal story that explores the hidden impact of wealth on identity, relationships, and sense of place in the world. Too often, we link net-worth to self-worth and keep quiet about how our finances make us feel. Money is a taboo subject. The author hopes We Need to Talk becomes a catalyst for conversation that demystifies wealth, gets us talking on a personal level, and confirms we are ninety-nine percent the same. In 1991, at twenty-six years old, Jennifer took a job at Microsoft and got lucky. She met her future husband, David, and the stock options she was granted were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. His were worth far more. Years later, when David joined a small, unknown start-up called Amazon.com, she got lucky again. They both did. They were in their early thirties and had tens of millions of dollars. It was amazing. The freedom and benefits were obvious. But after growing up saving her pennies and being wary of the rich, Jennifer was embarrassed to have joined their ranks. She wasn't worried about being liked for her money, she was worried about being hated for it. People looked at her differently. She didn't know how to ensure her children stayed motivated and not entitled, was shocked when a friend asked for $25,000, discovered philanthropy isn't as straightforward as just writing a check, and grappled with the meaning of enough. For years, she didn't share her dilemmas with others for fear of being judged. No one talks about money-but we should"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the 99% occupied Wall Street... Before the concept of social justice had impinged on the social conscience... Before the social safety net had even been conceived... By the turn of the 20th Century, the era of the robber barons, Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) had already accumulated a staggeringly large fortune; he was one of the wealthiest people on the globe. He guaranteed his position as one of the wealthiest men ever when he sold his steel business to create the United States Steel Corporation. Following that sale, he spent his last 18 years, he gave away nearly 90% of his fortune to charities, foundations, and universities. His charitable efforts actually started far earlier. At the age of 33, he wrote a memo to himself, noting ..".The amassing of wealth is one of the worse species of idolatry. No idol more debasing than the worship of money." In 1881, he gave a library to his hometown of Dunfermline, Scotland. In 1889, he spelled out his belief that the rich should use their wealth to help enrich society, in an article called "The Gospel of Wealth" this book. Carnegie writes that the best way of dealing with wealth inequality is for the wealthy to redistribute their surplus means in a responsible and thoughtful manner, arguing that surplus wealth produces the greatest net benefit to society when it is administered carefully by the wealthy. He also argues against extravagance, irresponsible spending, or self-indulgence, instead promoting the administration of capital during one's lifetime toward the cause of reducing the stratification between the rich and poor. Though written more than a century ago, Carnegie's words still ring true today, urging a better, more equitable world through greater social consciousness.
