Book Synopsis Testing the Data Warehouse Practicum by : Doug Vucevic
Download or read book Testing the Data Warehouse Practicum written by Doug Vucevic and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-08-22 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality of a data warehouse (DWH) is the elusive aspect of it, not because it is hard to achieve [once we agree what it is], but because it is difficult to describe. We propose the notion that quality is not an attribute or a feature that a product has to possess, but rather a relationship between that product and each and every stakeholder. More specifically, the relationship between the software quality and the organization that produces the products is explored. Quality of data that populates the DWH is the main concern of the book, therefore we propose a definition for data quality as: fitness to serve each and every purpose. Methods are proposed throughout the book to help readers achieve data warehouse quality.

Book Synopsis The Algorithmic Foundations of Differential Privacy by : Cynthia Dwork
Download or read book The Algorithmic Foundations of Differential Privacy written by Cynthia Dwork and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of privacy-preserving data analysis has a long history spanning multiple disciplines. As electronic data about individuals becomes increasingly detailed, and as technology enables ever more powerful collection and curation of these data, the need increases for a robust, meaningful, and mathematically rigorous definition of privacy, together with a computationally rich class of algorithms that satisfy this definition. Differential Privacy is such a definition. The Algorithmic Foundations of Differential Privacy starts out by motivating and discussing the meaning of differential privacy, and proceeds to explore the fundamental techniques for achieving differential privacy, and the application of these techniques in creative combinations, using the query-release problem as an ongoing example. A key point is that, by rethinking the computational goal, one can often obtain far better results than would be achieved by methodically replacing each step of a non-private computation with a differentially private implementation. Despite some powerful computational results, there are still fundamental limitations. Virtually all the algorithms discussed herein maintain differential privacy against adversaries of arbitrary computational power -- certain algorithms are computationally intensive, others are efficient. Computational complexity for the adversary and the algorithm are both discussed. The monograph then turns from fundamentals to applications other than query-release, discussing differentially private methods for mechanism design and machine learning. The vast majority of the literature on differentially private algorithms considers a single, static, database that is subject to many analyses. Differential privacy in other models, including distributed databases and computations on data streams, is discussed. The Algorithmic Foundations of Differential Privacy is meant as a thorough introduction to the problems and techniques of differential privacy, and is an invaluable reference for anyone with an interest in the topic.
Book Synopsis Architectural Framework for Web Development and Micro Distributed Applications by : Rodriguez, Guillermo
Download or read book Architectural Framework for Web Development and Micro Distributed Applications written by Rodriguez, Guillermo and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-04-17 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, we have ushered in a new age where applications will become smaller, distributed, JavaScript-laden, microservices-infused, and utilize the hardware of the client to operate. A new paradigm has been forced upon us by the large search providers, and because of this, we can now leverage them to help our applications obtain influence where our applications become the voice of authority on the internet and consequently help our organizations reap the benefits of mass adoption. To better understand this, we must first consider the history that has taken us to where we find ourselves. Architectural Framework for Web Development and Micro Distributed Applications helps readers to come to an understanding of how the indexing domain may be leveraged by this new wave of JavaScript applications that have been termed micro distributed applications and by whose creation and implementation will allow the enterprise to reap the benefit of influence by the existing search systems that the masses utilize. It helps to fill in the picture of the evolution that has occurred and will continue to occur in web development whereby the new breed of applications will become JavaScript-laden and highly distributed and whereby the businesses that implement them will stand a chance to win the indexing race and consequently stand to win the attention of the masses. Covering topics such as distributed systems, search engine optimization, and software as a service, this premier reference source is a dynamic resource for web developers, students and educators of higher education, software developers, technical personnel, IT managers, computer scientists, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Book Synopsis Metadata-driven Software Systems in Biomedicine by : Prakash M. Nadkarni
Download or read book Metadata-driven Software Systems in Biomedicine written by Prakash M. Nadkarni and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-27 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the use of database technology is ubiquitous throughout IT (and health IT in particular), it is not generally appreciated that, as a database increases in scope, certain designs are far superior to others. In biomedical domains, new knowledge is being generated continually, and the databases that must support areas such as clinical care and research must also be able to evolve while requiring minimal or no logical / physical redesign. Appropriately designed metadata, and software designed to utilize it effectively, can provide significant insulation against change. Many of the larger EMR or clinical research database vendors have realized this, but their designs are proprietary and not described in the literature. Consequently, numerous misconceptions abound among individuals who have not had to work with large-scale biomedical systems, and graduates of a health or bioinformatics program may find that they need to unlearn what they were taught in database and software design classes in order to work productively with such systems. A working knowledge of such systems is also important for individuals who are not primarily software developers, such as health informaticians, medical information officers and data analysts. This book is, in a sense, intended to prepare all of the above individuals for the real world.

Book Synopsis On Governance by : Robert I. Rotberg
Download or read book On Governance written by Robert I. Rotberg and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2016-10-17 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spreading good governance is a key goal of political leaders and reformers — whether it is to improve cities, nations, regimes or institutions — because better-governed people are more likely to avoid civil conflict and obtain significant social returns. But just what is meant by “governance” at the national or international level? Is it a fuzzy concept, or is it a clear set of rules or norms? How can it help to strengthen societies and drive better policy? On Governance: What It Is, What It Measures and Its Policy Uses answers these questions. By proposing new theories for national and global governance, examining more than 90 governance indexes and analyzing best practices in governance, this volume suggests how policy makers can use governance theory and governance indexes to improve both domestic and multilateral decision making. World order depends on strengthened governance. On Governance spells out the meaning and the potential benefits of governance innovation for civil society and national policy makers. Building on the measured effects of policies in many dimensions of human existence, this book provides a guide to creating more positive outcomes for people everywhere.
