Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evolution Illuminating the Bible It is evident that the material views advanced by our leading men of science are causing a class of Christians much anxiety. One object I had in writing this volume was to draw the attention of this class to the fact that our Lord clearly advanced such views, when he defined man in his natural state as a unit of Body and Mind - graphicly classed by Him as "that which is born of the Flesh is Flesh," - put in contrast with the new sentiment conversion imparts, defined as one "born of the Spirit, Spirit." - John iii. 6. He was instructing Nicodemus on this vital principle of Christianity, who recognised Jesus as a teacher come from God, and came to be taught by Him. Nicodemus, like many in our day, who are startled by materialism, was greatly amazed when informed of the necessity of being "born again" before he could see the kingdom of heaven. But such is the case. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evolution Explained and Compared With the Bible The Adversaries of the Doctrine of Evolution frequently say, that it has not been scientifically verified, and therefore, ought not to be accepted. Like the adversaries of the Bible, they demand evidence, which in the nature of the case cannot now be produced, and reject the light of such evidence as we do possess. But no man can do this and be truly honest. The jury box, and on their oath, is not the only place where upright men are called upon to decide their minds by the weight of evidence. The whole evidence before our minds at this hour is divided into two classes. There is first, a limited amount of evidence which can be shown to harmonise both with the "special creation" doctrine, and with the doctrine of Evolution, and which therefore proves neither. And there is secondly, a larger amount of evidence, impossible to reconcile with the special creation hypothesis, but which supports entirely the Doctrine of Evolution. This, I contend, amounts to a legitimate proof of Evolution, and proves conclusively that the special creation hypothesis is untenable. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evolution of Christianity: Or Origin, Nature, and Development of the Religion of the Bible Believers in Christianity usually appeal to the Bible as the source of authority for their religion. Such appeal is all that is essential wherever the di vine Authorship of the Bible is recognized. In the present work, however, I have dealt with the subject of revealed religion from the standpoint of man's moral and mental necessities, showing his need of divine illumination, ' and arriving at the conclu sion that christianity is the only religion adapted to his requirements and must therefore be the true religion and the only successful religion for the moral elevation and redemption of man kind. Contrasted with all other forms of religion, Christianity, because of its beautiful nature and marvelous. Success, is in a class by itself, thus clearly demonstrating the fact that it proceeded from a source higher than human. They possessed within themselves the germ of perpetuation, without which the race would have passed out of existence. God created these two persons self-willed and self-acting, and they obtained the germ of life, j and through them all nations of the earth have sprung. They violated the first edict given in this world, which was a prohibition edict.* This edict is given in Moses' History of the Beginning You may eat of all the fruit of the garden, except one tree. This tree stood in the middle of the garden, and was so described that it could not be mistaken. Eve-however, did eat of it when alone, after which she brought some to Adam, and he knowing the fruit, but being over-persuaded, did eat thereof. Now the curse fol lows the edict. The penalty was, The day you eat thereof you shall surely die. Now, did they die? The day here spoken of is the day of their perpetuation and that day has not yet ended, but will surely end when the great fire comes, but no man knoweth the hour of its coming, but it will come like a thief in the night. (we will speak more fully of the fire in the future.) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. It's an auspicious title for such a humble man, yet no one can deny that the grasp Morris has on science and faith issues is staggering. In this updated classic, Morris walks the reader through history "real history" by showing the absurdity of evolution. From a wide variety of sciences, including astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, and geology, Morris presents clear evidence that the Bible gives us an astonishingly accurate record of the past, present, and future.

Book excerpt: An acclaimed, paradigm-shifting evolutionary biologist shows how the biblical story of Genesis uncannily reflects recent scientific discoveries-and finds room for divine inspiration within. Consider this: Genesis recounts the story of creation, step-by-step: "Let there be light"; "Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear"; "Let the earth bring forth [vegetation]"; "Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life"; "God created the whales"; "And God created . . . every winged fowl." For thousands of years, Judeo-Christian belief has accepted this progression as truth. And now, thanks to recent scientific discoveries, the scientific community does, too (though without the mention of "God"). In The Genesis Enigma, respected evolutionary biologist Andrew Parker explains each parallel between Genesis and science in detail-and the closer he looks, the more amazing the parallels become. But the Genesis account has no right to be correct. The author or authors could not have known these things happened in this order, and with the highlights science has come to recognize. Ultimately, Parker argues, it must be divine inspiration that guided the writing of the Bible. This startling conclusion will make The Genesis Enigma a must-read for believers and scientists alike.
