Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UN MODELE DE NUAGE MOLECULAIRE INTERSTELLAIRE EST PRESENTE DANS LEQUEL LES EQUATIONS DE BILAN CHIMIQUE POUR 80 ESPECES SONT RESOLUES SIMULTANEMENT AVEC UNE EQUATION DE TRANSFERT POUR LE RAYONNEMENT ULTRAVIOLET QUI PREND EN COMPTE L'ABSORPTION DU RAYONNEMENT PAR LES GRAINS DE POUSSIERE ET PAR LES ATOMES ET LES MOLECULES CONSTITUANT LE GAZ. LA BIBLIOTHEQUE DE REACTIONS CHIMIQUES CONTIENT 1100 REACTIONS ET A ETE CHOISIE POUR POUVOIR S'APPLIQUER AUSSI BIEN AUX NUAGES INTERSTELLAIRES DIFFUS QU'AUX NUAGES DENSES. LE MODELE SUPPOSE QUE L'EQUILIBRE STATIONNAIRE EST ATTEINT. C'EST-A-DIRE QUE LE TAUX DE FORMATION DE CHAQUE ESPECE CHIMIQUE EST EGAL A SON TAUX DE DESTRUCTION. LA DISTRIBUTION DE LA TEMPERATURE DU GAZ A PU ETRE CALCULEE EN INTRODUISANT UNE EQUATION D'EQUILIBRE THERMIQUE. LA RESOLUTION COUPLEE DE CETTE EQUATION AVEC LES EQUATIONS DE BILAN CHIMIQUE A PERMIS DE METTRE EN EVIDENCE L'IMPORTANCE DE LA COMPOSITION CHIMIQUE SUR LA STRUCTURE THERMIQUE DU GAZ. POUR L'ETUDE DES NUAGES DIFFUS, LE CALCUL DE LA POPULATION DES NIVEAUX ROTATIONNELS EXCITES DES MOLECULES H#2, HD ET C#2 A ETE INTRODUIT DANS LE MODELE. CE DERNIER A ETE APPLIQUE A L'ETUDE DE LA COMPOSITION CHIMIQUE DES NUAGES INTERSTELLAIRES DE NOTRE GALAXIE ET DES DEUX NUAGES DE MAGELLAN. UNE ETUDE DETAILLEE DES PARAMETRES PHYSIQUES DE NUAGES MOLECULAIRES ET DE LEUR ENVIRONNEMENT A ETE ENTREPRISE POUR DEUX NUAGES PARTICULIERS SITUES SUR LA LIGNE DE VISEE EN DIRECTION DES ETOILES DZETA OPHIUCHI ET HD 29647. LES NOUVELLES DONNEES SPECTROSCOPIQUES OBTENUES DANS LE DOMAINE ULTRAVIOLET SUR LA MOLECULE CO ONT ETE INTRODUITES DANS LE MODELE POUR RECALCULER LES VARIATIONS DE SON TAUX DE PHOTODISSOCIATION ET DE SON ABONDANCE DANS LES NUAGES MOLECULAIRES

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this classic text, a Nobel Prize-winning astrophysicist presents the theory of stellar dynamics as a branch of classical dynamics--a discipline in the same general category as celestial mechanics. His method offers the advantages of clarifying the theory's fundamental issues and defining its underlying motivations. S. Chandrasekhar investigates two areas. The first concerns problems in which the time of relaxation of a stellar system is central. His method consists of analyzing the effects of stellar encounters in terms of the two-body problem of classical dynamics and applying this theory to the dynamics of star clusters. The second area investigates problems centering around Liouville's theorem and the solutions of the equation of continuity; here, the author discusses the dynamic implications of the existence of a field of differential motions, which appears to be the most striking kinematic feature of the galaxy and the extragalactic systems. This edition includes two papers by the author that were published after Principles of Stellar Dynamics and that have been studied and quoted extensively: "New Methods in Stellar Dynamics" (originally published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences) and "Dynamical Friction" (originally published in The Astrophysical Journal).

This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The borders between galaxies and the almost empty intergalactic medium are ill-defined regions where gas struggles to form stars. The proceedings of IAU Symposium 321 summarize our current understanding of the rarefied universe and prepare for the optimal exploitation of upcoming astronomical instruments. They discuss the most recent advances in the study of the stellar, dust and gas content of galaxy outskirts, going from resolved stellar populations in the Milky Way and in the Local Group to the study of high-redshift systems. Such a broad approach, both in terms of galaxy components and evolutionary epochs, is necessary to take full advantage of the recent discoveries made by facilities at all wavelengths, to deepen our knowledge of the assembly and evolution of these elusive regions and to establish their role within the evolution of galaxies as a whole and their interactions with the surrounding intergalactic medium.
