What was once an environment of happiness, excitement, wonder and interaction, has now become a place full of even more rules to remember and follow. This book is a friendly way of educating children on the current situation and how there are other ways of interacting with our friends. Although we cannot touch and sit next to one another, we can still be sociable as well as taking care of each other’s safety. Its important that our little ones understand that while everything is different, our feelings remain the same.

He went on to study with Gurdjieff, and from 1931 to his death in 1953, he began at Ouspensky's request, a programme of work devoted to passing on the ideas he had received. Reissued in hard cover, these five unedited commentaries are taken from the weekly lectures and talks Nicoll gave to his students in England and which were recorded verbatim; the sixth volume is an index produced by the Gurdjieff society Washington DC. These differ from Nicholl's more polished works - they are more concerned with directly applying certain deep ideas to daily life.

Book excerpt: For two decades, pastor and leadership consultant Matt Keller has worked with hundreds of influencers, and he has learned that the greatest enhancer or greatest limiter to a person’s success is whether someone is teachable. In The Key to Everything, Keller shows how teachability isn’t something that some people are born with and others aren’t. It is a characteristic that can be learned and grown. In fact, the only way to succeed in life is to possess teachability in an ever-increasing fashion, and The Key to Everything reveals how to do just that.

Book excerpt: How the archive evolved to include new technologies, practices, and media, and how it became the apparatus through which we map the everyday. In Archive Everything, Gabriella Giannachi traces the evolution of the archive into the apparatus through which we map the everyday. The archive, traditionally a body of documents or a site for the preservation of documents, changed over the centuries to encompass, often concurrently, a broad but interrelated number of practices not traditionally considered as archival. Archives now consist of not only documents and sites but also artworks, installations, museums, social media platforms, and mediated and mixed reality environments. Giannachi tracks the evolution of these diverse archival practices across the centuries. Archives today offer a multiplicity of viewing platforms to replay the past, capture the present, and map our presence. Giannachi uses archaeological practices to explore all the layers of the archive, analyzing Lynn Hershman Leeson's !Women Art Revolution project, a digital archive of feminist artists. She considers the archive as a memory laboratory, with case studies that include visitors' encounters with archival materials in the Jewish Museum in Berlin. She discusses the importance of participatory archiving, examining the “multimedia roadshow” Digital Diaspora Family Reunion as an example. She explores the use of the archive in works that express the relationship between ourselves and our environment, citing Andy Warhol and Ant Farm, among others. And she looks at the transmission of the archive through the body in performance, bioart, and database artworks, closing with a detailed analysis of Lynn Hershman Leeson's Infinity Engine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the basic building blocks of the world? This book presents a naturalistic theory saying that the universe and everything in it can be reduced to three fundamental entities: a field, a set of values that can be actualized at different places in the field, and an actualizer of the values. The theory is defended by using it to answer the main questions in metaphysics, such as: What is causality, existence, laws of nature, consciousness, thinking, free will, time, mathematical entities, ethical values, etc.? The theory is compared with the main alternatives and argued to solve problems better than the existing theories. Several new theories are suggested, such as how to understand mental causation, free will and the truth of ethics and mathematics.

Book excerpt: “There's no writer alive like de Botton” (Chicago Tribune), and now this internationally heralded author turns his attention to the insatiable human quest for status—a quest that has less to do with material comfort than love. Anyone who’s ever lost sleep over an unreturned phone call or the neighbor’s Lexus had better read Alain de Botton’s irresistibly clear-headed new book, immediately. For in its pages, a master explicator of our civilization and its discontents explores the notion that our pursuit of status is actually a pursuit of love, ranging through Western history and thought from St. Augustine to Andrew Carnegie and Machiavelli to Anthony Robbins. Whether it’s assessing the class-consciousness of Christianity or the convulsions of consumer capitalism, dueling or home-furnishing, Status Anxiety is infallibly entertaining. And when it examines the virtues of informed misanthropy, art appreciation, or walking a lobster on a leash, it is not only wise but helpful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will we ever discover a single scientific theory that tells us everything that has happened, and everything that will happen, on every level in the Universe? The quest for the theory of everything - a single key that unlocks all the secrets of the Universe - is no longer a pipe-dream, but the focus of some of our most exciting research about the structure of the cosmos. But what might such a theory look like? What would it mean? And how close are we to getting there? In New Theories of Everything, John D. Barrow describes the ideas and controversies surrounding the ultimate explanation. Updating his earlier work Theories of Everything with the very latest theories and predictions, he tells of the M-theory of superstrings and multiverses, of speculations about the world as a computer program, and of new ideas of computation and complexity. But this is not solely a book about modern ideas in physics - Barrow also considers and reflects on the philosophical and cultural consequences of those ideas, and their implications for our own existence in the world. Far from there being a single theory uniquely specifying the constants and forces of nature, the picture today is of a vast landscape of different logically possible laws and constants in many dimensions, of which our own world is but a shadow: a tiny facet of a higher dimensional reality. But this is not to say we should give up in bewilderment: Barrow shows how many rich and illuminating theories and questions arise, and what this may mean for our understanding of our own place in the cosmos.

This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hebrew-Christian religion remains the most potent verifiably truthful religion on the planet. It suffers horrendously from murderous oppression in the Middle East, its homeland; and was crushed-flat by the largest political State the world has ever known (Soviet Russia); and it endures heavy disheartenment by flawed innuendo and secularisation throughout Europe. Despite these massive attacks from mistaken religion, hard-line atheists, and dont know-cant be bothered groups yet it remains. And more than this: It remains, philosophically, socially, prophetically, and scientifically the largest, most credible and consistent belief-system on the planet. Its not by accident that non-violent Christianity (believing in the non-violent Ten Commandments and the beautiful spirit of them in the Beatitudes), can survive such intense mentalphysical violent persecution and still remain so vibrant. True Christians know: The only reason it is so, is because the holy Messiah God of Israel is the only true God. He rules over all the kingdoms of men, but its only the kingdom of Christianity which knows this. He loves all humans (but not their thoughtsactions). However only Christians recognise this and sincerely give thanks that He is their God, their prophet, priest and king. He prophesied that enormous ungodliness would come against His church, and followers but these gates of hell would not overcome it, and so it is now, as we head towards Armageddon and the end of the human age. This book explains His prophecies, and associated key milestone calculations. This is one of many ways, witnessing that He is the genuine-unique-article, just as the Hebrew-Christian Bible says. The purpose of our existence is to have a loving relationship with Him. When humans choose to reject Him it causes us to create corrupt and false gods. Without realising it, many religious people worship corrupt gods, and atheism worships its false no-God god. These cannot bring a person into the paradise of fruitful everlasting life their ways effectively bring people into a fruitless everlasting living-death. This grieves the Messiah God of Israel because He loves fruitful life. To encourage us and to verify who He is He leaves indicators throughout history, evidencing even now, in these days of the deeply sceptical cheating spirit that humans are without excuse, come the judgement. Lawrence D. Shawbrooks is now retired but continues to work as an Elder in the Church oversight.

The ecosystem of ideas defended in this book comes from the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and his medieval interpreter, Thomas Aquinas. The ongoing relevance of their philosophical thought to twenty-first century issues is opened up in fascinating ways in this book. Life, the Universe, and Everything is the product of thirty years of teaching introductory courses in philosophy. Assuming no prior background, it only requires of readers an enquiring mind and a willingness to think carefully. An ideal guide to the big questions we face.
