As innocent as it seems, we are in a battle. The battle is not over entertaining our children with stories that make up the Christmas season. It's over making sure our children understand there is only one real Christmas story, and how can we tell a story if we don't include the ending. Jesus did come into the world as a baby, but he left as our savior. I'm not trying to take away all the stories told about Christmas; I'm just trying to tell the greatest story ever told. And it's not even my story""it's God's story about how much he loves us and what he did to prove it. It is my hope that all children will know the real Christmas story.

The Christmas story is retold, replete with full-color original artwork, through the very inquisitive lamb's questions and his mother's replies. Pertinent biblical passages are shared by a narrating pastor. You will find this mini-novel to be a new and refreshing perspective on Christmas, designed for Christian parents to read and discuss with their children during the Christmas season. What people are saying: We thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has a permanent spot on our bookcase and the kids love to pull it out and read it whenever they need a book to read. Hearing the nativity from a different viewpoint has opened our eyes and hearts to the meaning and story behind Christmas. It has helped us to know how to be more Christian and how to show love and acceptance of others. Review: The Old Schoolhouse(R) Magazine Away in the Manger: The Christmas Story from a Nativity Scene Lamb's Point of View This is no ordinary Christmas story book, for it tells the Christmas story in an entirely new and fresh way that will capture the hearts of both children and adults. The book is filled with beautiful life-like illustrations and rich content that will educate children and surprise adults, enriching the typical way the story has grown to be told with fascinating Christian history and solid theology. Using God's creation, in this case a lamb, to tell the Christmas story, brings a compelling picture of the true meaning of Christmas. The child-like perspective of Ransom, the inquisitive Lamb, draws you in as he asks the same profound questions a child might ask if he or she had been there. The story naturally flows into a salvation invitation and prayer. Anyone who has children in their life should first read this book and then give it as a gift with a personal inscription to each and every child they can think of this Christmas. For the greatest gift of all is the Christmas story. --Monte Swan is a research/exploration geologist and author of Romancing Your Child's Heart, its Vision & Strategy Manual, and The Secret of Singing Springs (a family novel).

Book excerpt: Simply Jesus evolved from a desire to see beyond teh layers of glitz and commercialism added to the traditional Christmas story throughout the ages into an Advent sermon series, complete with a congregational chorus and a very special poem added to each chapter. This book takes a look at some things we might have forgotten about the story and some special characteristics of some familiar players. Dr. Spangler has a way of cutting through the commercial hype and returning us to the heart of the narrative. His way with words will bring alive the essence of the Christmas story that is needed today more than ever.

Book excerpt: The Olet Christmas Story is based on the gospels of Luke and Matthew. The angel Gabriel informs Mary that she will give birth to God's son Jesus. When Mary tells her fiance Joseph, he becomes upset. But Gabriel appears to Joseph in a dream and tells him that all is OK, Mary's baby is the son of God. So Mary and Joseph get married. When Mary is heavy with child, she and Joseph must travel to Bethlehem for a census. Unable to find lodgings there, they sleep in a stable where Mary gives birth to the baby Jesus. Angels announce the birth to shepherds, who come to worship the child. Wise men from afar also come bearing gifts and are guided to the child by a star. And so it was that the first Christmas came to be. The Olet Christmas Story is one in a series of the Olet Bible Stories that are being brought to life through the unique artistry of Lea Frazier.

Book excerpt: Learn Something New This Christmas We hate to admit it, but after years, sometimes even decades, of reading the same Luke 2 story of Christmas, we get a little bored—we lose some of the awe we ought to have when discussing the greatest miracle in history. That’s why The Characters of Christmas was written, to help you take a fresh look at the Christmas story by getting to know the minor characters that played a part in Jesus’ birth, such as Zechariah and Elizabeth, the Shepherds, and Herod. As you slow down, engage your imagination, and enter into the stories of these women and men, you’ll see the most important character—Jesus Christ—with new eyes. And with discussion questions and a Christmas song suggestion at the end of each chapter, it’s perfect for engaging your whole family. Break free from the familiar, and discover something you never knew about the story you’ve always heard.

Book excerpt: The True Christmas Story is a simple retelling of the Nativity story, intended for two- to six-year-olds, to share the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ. Taken from the Gospel of St. Luke, young readers can begin to incorporate the True Christmas Story into their lives and holiday traditions celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. In my home growing up, every Christmas we had a tradition of reading the Christmas story. All families have different ways of celebrating Christmas, and Santa may or may not be a part of that. In my family, Santa brought one or two surprises every year, but he wasn't the focus of our holiday. I don't even remember when Santa faded away. I do remember making birthday cakes for Jesus, and singing Him Happy Birthday on Christmas Eve. And then every year on Christmas morning, my dad built a fire in the fireplace (in sunny San Diego where it was never needed) and before presents were opened we read the Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke. We prayed as a family, thanking God for the greatest gift of all, baby Jesus. After celebrating the real reason for Christmas we could dive right into opening presents. Imagine my delight when I discovered the art of VS Sheridan. This retelling of the Christmas story is not meant to replace opening the Bible. But, when I saw her art, the first thing that ran through my mind was squealing children everywhere running with excitement to read the true story of Christmas. My prayer is that each child would have the true Christmas story as a tradition in their celebration... and Jesus a place in their heart. Merry Christmas! Dana S. Chisholm

Book excerpt: This is the day that salvation came to this world. A little child like no other, indeed the Son of God. There in the manger of some humble section of Bethlehem, a child sees the light of day for the first time, unassuming and with nary a fanfare. And for all the cares of the world, the day would have unmindfully retired to itself, except that the heavens and its angels could hardly contain breathless excitement, and a star and three magi confirm what had been prophesied hundreds of years ago. It's the first Christmas day, the day that man was given the only one who can redeem us from the fall. A day would soon come to follow that would hasten the end of the chasm separating Creator and creation and would finally bring both God and man together forever. About the Author Brian Panning is a member of the Grace Bible Fellowship Church, and his other interests include working with mosaic tile. He lives in Pennsylvania.

Book excerpt: Christmastime comes with many traditions. Many decorate a Christmas tree and hang lights. Manger scenes are brought out and proudly displayed. We buy or make presents for friends and family. And we sing special songs and tell special stories. Author Emi Taran’s book, A Christmas Story is a different kind of holiday story. She tells the story of Jesus’s birth in a manger. But there’s a character you may not expect—Santa Claus! It is a beautiful Christmas story with a heartfelt message about forgiveness, the power to redeem oneself, and the knowledge nothing is too difficult to overcome if we change the course of our actions. A Christmas Story is based on an old Christmas carol that tells the story of Santa Claus in a completely different way from what we know today. It is a touching story that combines the birth of Jesus and Santa Claus coming to life. Although the story has strong ties to the biblical account of the birth of Jesus, the story moves away at times from the biblical version. Some elements are kept while others are changed, making this rendition unique. Here’s the chance to enrich your storytelling repertoire and pass on another magical Christmas story.
