Book Synopsis Chemical Contaminants in Canadian Aquatic Ecosystems by : D. M. Whittle
Download or read book Chemical Contaminants in Canadian Aquatic Ecosystems written by D. M. Whittle and published by Canadian Government Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report focuses on those chemicals that persist in the Canadian environment and that are accumulated by aquatic organisms. It summarizes scientific information collected previously, with emphasis on Canadian research findings published in the last decade. The first part of the report introduces the general features of aquatic ecosystems and provides basic information on the fate and effects of chemical contaminants. The second part reviews contaminant related issues for the following geographic areas: Atlantic marine ecosystems including the St. Lawrence, Bay of Fundy, and general north-west Atlantic; freshwater ecosystems including the Great Lakes and inland waters; the Arctic marine ecosystem; and Pacific aquatic ecosystems including the British Columbia coastal ecosystem, the open coast, and some of the major rivers. All chapters discuss the major contaminant issues, important oceanographic or limnological features, biological resources, and sources of contaminants as well as contaminant trends, distribution, and effects. Current and emerging chemical contaminant issues and associated research topics are summarized at the end of each chapter. The third part is an overall assessment of current knowledge of chemical contaminants and their effects on fish and fish habitat, and identifies major current and emerging contaminant issues confronting Canada's fish and fish habitat.
This book was released on 2018 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Department of Fisheries and Oceans and published by Peches Et Oceans Direction Generale Des Communications = Fisheries and Oceans Communications Dir. This book was released on 1991 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of a workshop, the scientific reviews and the contributed papers presented at the symposium. The document presents a brief historical summary of marine research in the Gulf; reports the discussions, conclusions and recommendations of the different working groups on oceanography (physics, biology, chemistry and sedimentology) and on the fishery (fish and invertebrates); then presents the discussions of each multidisciplinary working group, centered around how the St. Lawrence system may be used as a natural laboratory which will contribute to the solution of major long-term problems of conservation of natural resources and of the quality of the environment.
Book Synopsis Nitrogen Cycling in Coastal Marine Environments by : T. Henry Blackburn
Download or read book Nitrogen Cycling in Coastal Marine Environments written by T. Henry Blackburn and published by . This book was released on 1988-03-21 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen discharge to the coastal environment has been increasing, posing the threat of accelerated eutrofication. Considerable research has been conducted in recent years to examine the impact of the nitrogen loading in coastal ecosystems. Based on proceedings from a SCOPE symposium held at the University of Aarhus in July of 1985, this volume covers a variety of up-to-date developments in research on nitrogen cycling in coastal marine environments. Topics include the role of nitrogen in algal productivity, regeneration of nutrients in the water column and the sediments, and the flow of nitrogen in coastal ecosystems.
