This book was released on 1997 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes research that evaluated the ability of the present design criteria (API 650) to ensure the desired frangible joint behavior. Particular questions include: evaluation of the area inequality as a method to predict the buckling response of the compression ring; effect of roof slope, tank diameter, and weld size on the frangible joint; effect of the relative strength of the roof-to-shell joint compared to the shell-to-bottom joint. Charts, tables, graphs and photos. References.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety in the process industries is critical for those who work with chemicals and hazardous substances or processes. The field of loss prevention is, and continues to be, of supreme importance to countless companies, municipalities and governments around the world, and Lees’ is a detailed reference to defending against hazards. Recognized as the standard work for chemical and process engineering safety professionals, it provides the most complete collection of information on the theory, practice, design elements, equipment, regulations and laws covering the field of process safety. An entire library of alternative books (and cross-referencing systems) would be needed to replace or improve upon it, but everything of importance to safety professionals, engineers and managers can be found in this all-encompassing three volume reference instead. The process safety encyclopedia, trusted worldwide for over 30 years Now available in print and online, to aid searchability and portability Over 3,600 print pages cover the full scope of process safety and loss prevention, compiling theory, practice, standards, legislation, case studies and lessons learned in one resource as opposed to multiple sources

Book Synopsis Guidelines for Process Safety in Batch Reaction Systems by : CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety)
Download or read book Guidelines for Process Safety in Batch Reaction Systems written by CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-08-31 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Batch reaction systems pose unique challenges to process safety managers because they do not operate in a steady state. The sequence of processing steps, and frequent start-ups and shutdowns, increase the possibility of human errors and equipment failures. And, since batch plants are often designed for shared use, frequent modification of piping and layout may occur, resulting in complex "management of change" issues. This book identifies the singular concerns of batch reaction systems—including potential sources of unsafe conditions—and provides a "how-to" guide for the practicing engineer in dealing with them by applying appropriate practices to prevent accidents.

Book Synopsis Guidelines for Initiating Events and Independent Protection Layers in Layer of Protection Analysis by : CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety)
Download or read book Guidelines for Initiating Events and Independent Protection Layers in Layer of Protection Analysis written by CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-12-31 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a guide for Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) practitioners. It explains the onion skin model and in particular, how it relates to the use of LOPA and the need for non-safety instrumented independent protection layers. It provides specific guidance on Independent Protection Layers (IPLs) that are not Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Using the LOPA methodology, companies typically take credit for risk reductions accomplished through non-SIS alternatives; i.e. administrative procedures, equipment design, etc. It addresses issues such as how to ensure the effectiveness and maintain reliability for administrative controls or “inherently safer, passive” concepts. This book will address how the fields of Human Reliability Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Inherent Safety, Audits and Assessments, Maintenance, and Emergency Response relate to LOPA and SIS. The book will separate IPL’s into categories such as the following: Inherent Safety eliminates a scenario or fundamentally reduces a hazard Preventive/Proactive prevents initiating event from occurring such as enhanced maintenance Preventive/Active stops chain of events after initiating event occurs but before an incident has occurred such as high level in a tank shutting off the pump. Mitigation (active or passive) minimizes impact once an incident has occurred such as closing block valves once LEL is detected in the dike (active) or the dike preventing contamination of groundwater (passive).
