Book Synopsis Building Materials Evaluation Handbook by : Forrest Wilson
Download or read book Building Materials Evaluation Handbook written by Forrest Wilson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a reference book. Although it might conceivably be read in the order in which the subjects appear it was designed to be consulted subject to subject as one uses a dictionary or encyclopedia. To facilitate quick identification and location of building materials, characteristics and problems they are first listed in the table of contents, repeated in the chapter headings and listed in the index. In addition to describing how building materials respond to environmental stresses in terms of their mechanical, electrical, chemical and thermal properties, brief references to their normal behavior and a comparison of various material characteristics has been included. Most of the information gathered and presented here represents the contemporary developments of ancient building lore. The increasing importance of renewal, rehabilitation, retrofit and restoration is placing added importance on material behavior. A separate and distinct field of building science is emerging as increasingly sophisticated instruments are linked to the growing ability and decreasing costs of computer analysis. This book describes one segment of a new building science-that of building diagnosis.
Book Synopsis Interrelations Between Cement and Concrete Properties by : Raymond Leonard Blaine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The studies of the interrelations between cement and concrete properties are presented in a series of related articles. This first section presents the type classification of the cements and the areas from which they were procured together with the tests performed on the cements and concretes. Also presented are the methods employed in the statistical treatment of the data and a discussion of the significance of the various statistical techniques employed in the following sections dealing with specific aspects of the interrelations between cement and concrete properties.(Author).

Book Synopsis Fracture mechanics of concrete: Material characterization and testing by : Alberto Carpinteri
Download or read book Fracture mechanics of concrete: Material characterization and testing written by Alberto Carpinteri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume on the mechanics of fracture of Portland cement concrete, the general theme is the connection between microstructural phenomena and macroscopic models. The issues addressed include techniques for observation over a wide range of scales, the influence of .microcracking on common measures of strength and de formability , and ultimately, the relationship between microstructural changes in concrete under load and its resistance to cracking. It is now commonly accepted that, in past attempts to force-fit the behavior of concrete into the rules of linear elastic fracture mechanics, proper attention has not been paid to scale effects. Clearly, the relationships among specimen size, crack length and opening, and characteristic material fabric dimensions have been, in comparison to their counterparts in metals, ceramics, and rocks, abused in concrete. Without a fundamental understanding of these relationships, additional testing in search of the elusive, single measure of fracture toughness has spawned additional confusion and frustration. No one is in a better position to document this observation than Professor Mindess.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A review is presented of nondestructive test (NDT) methods for evaluating the condition of concrete and steel reinforcement in structures. Methods discussed include visual inspection, stress-wave, nuclear, measurement of fluid transport properties, magnetic and electrical, infrared thermography, and ground-penetrating radar. The principle of each method is discussed and the typical instrumentation described. Testing procedures are summarized and the data analysis methods explained. The advantages and limitations of the methods are highlighted. This report concludes with a discussion of planning a NDT program. General information is provided for those faced with the tast of evaluating the condition of a concrete structure and who are considering the applicability of NDT methods to aid in that evaluation."--p. 1.
