Book Synopsis Chalcidoidea of Iran by : Hassan Ghahari
Download or read book Chalcidoidea of Iran written by Hassan Ghahari and published by CABI. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The superfamily Chalcidoidea (Insecta, Hymenoptera) contains in excess of 26,000 described species worldwide, but with an estimated total diversity of more than 500,000 species the vast majority of species have yet to be discovered and described. Most chalcidoid species are parasitoids of hosts in at least 12 different insect orders, attacking the egg, larval or pupal stages, though phytophagy and other life cycles and hosts are known. Iran is the 18th largest country in the world and has a rich and diverse insect fauna, including Chalcidoidea. It is extremely interesting from a biogeographic point of view, and a paradise for an entomologist. This book summarizes the results of all prior research concerning species diversity of Iranian Chalcidoidea, including host records and distribution records by province in Iran as well as world distribution by country for 1,351 species of Chalcidoidea recorded from Iran through the end of 2019.

Book Synopsis Global Guide of the Flat Wasps (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae) by : Celso O. Azevedo
Download or read book Global Guide of the Flat Wasps (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae) written by Celso O. Azevedo and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The flat wasp family Bethylidae Haliday lacks global scale literature on their alpha taxonomy. The only world revision for the family was by Kieffer in 1914 and is fully out of date and somewhat useless; the only catalog for the family was made by Gordh & Móczár in 1990 and does not include hundreds of changes made since then; and the most recent world genera keys were proposed by Terayama in 2003, but do not reflect the current knowledge we have for the family. Given this scenario, we present a global guide of Bethylidae with diagnoses, taxonomic evaluation, keys, and a checklist of all their extant genera and subfamilies. Key words: Chrysidoidea, systematics, taxonomy, synopsis, synonymies, homonymies."--Page 5.
Book Synopsis Host-parasite Evolution by : Dale H. Clayton
Download or read book Host-parasite Evolution written by Dale H. Clayton and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 473 pages. Book excerpt: This is a question-oriented volume with a solid organismal foundation that will help to bridge the gap between evolutionary ecologists and parasitologists. A range of experts have written chapters that review general concepts and provide a detailed survey of the parasites of a major group of hosts. The book concludes with extensive reviews of methods used to study bird parasites. It is a novel and valuable tool for anyone interested in understanding host-parasite interactions, particularly from an evolutionary perspective.
Download or read book The Honey Bee written by Norman Carreck and published by William Collins. This book was released on 2019-09-05 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The honey bee has had an intimate and continuous association with mankind for thousands of years, and remains of vital importance today, both for humanity and for all life on Earth. This timely addition to the New Naturalist series will aim to explore the natural history of honey bees, firstly as individuals, and then to consider them in the wider context as part of a complex society of perhaps 50,000 individuals without any kind of 'leader'. The enormous economic importance of honey bees needs to be considered in terms of the pollination of economically important crops and of wild plants, and the production of hive products with their ever increasing uses, not least in the field of human medicine. Recent declines in honey bee populations around the world have drawn attention to their pests and diseases, and have focused attention on the breeding of 'superior' strains of bees, better adapted to modern conditions. The honey bee has also played an important part in art, literature and folklore throughout the world from its depiction in prehistoric cave paintings, through its important symbolism of industry in heraldry, yet it has now become a creature to be feared in certain modern low budget Hollywood films. Finally the conservation of honey bees will be considered in the light of the major changes in land use that have occurred throughout the world over recent decades and the ever increasing international trade of bees and hive products.
