Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Carpe Corpus investigates time as it was theorized, imagined, and lived in early modern France. Despite the current flourishing of critical attention to women poets' works, critical assessments of Renaissance temporality remain almost exclusively shaped by early modern male writers." "A reading uninformed by female poets has deprived us of a more multifaceted vision of the temporal concordia discors at work in all these poets." "In Carpe Corpus, Cathy Yandell offers original interpretations of such literary giants as Ronsard and Louise Labe, as well as lesser-known but increasingly studied poets of the sixteenth century, notably Anne de Marquets, Nicole Estienne, and Catherine des Roches. Through readings of poetry, conduct manuals, and moral treatises, this volume seeks to reconstruct the temporal landscape of early modern France."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Arab Novelistic Traditions is the most comprehensive treatment of the subject to date. In scope, the book encompasses the genesis of the Arabic novel in the second half of the nineteenth century and its development to the present in every Arabic-speaking country and in Arab immigrant destinations on six continents. Editor Waïl S. Hassan and his contributors describe a novelistic phenomenon which has pre-modern roots, stretching centuries back within the Arabic cultural tradition, and branching outward geographically and linguistically to every Arab country and to Arab writing in many languages around the world. The first of three innovative dimensions of this Handbook consists of examining the ways in which the Arabic novel emerged out of a syncretic merger between Arabic and European forms and techniques, rather than being a simple importation of the latter and rejection of the former, as early critics of the Arabic novel claimed. The second involves mapping the novel geographically as it took root in every Arab country, developing into often distinct though overlapping and interconnected local traditions. Finally, the Handbook concerns the multilingual character of the novel in the Arab world and by Arab immigrants and their descendants around the world, both in Arabic and in at least a dozen other languages. The Oxford Handbook of Arab Novelistic Traditions reflects the current status of research in the broad field of Arab novelistic traditions and signals toward new directions of inquiry.

Book excerpt: Alexander Blok: Selected Poems showcases the artistic nature of Blok through his poems. The book first presents verses from the collection “Ante Lucem“ and poems of the 1905 revolution. Verses lifted from the two collections are presented. The poems cover various topics and were accomplished in different time frames. Although portions of the poems are only presented, they have managed to illustrate the creative mind of Blok. The text also highlights the works of Blok in English, French, German, Italian, and Russian. An index of first lines and titles are also presented. The book is a fine reference for students of poetry and researchers interested in the works and contributions of Blok in poetry.
