This book was released on 1997 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES ETUDES EXPERIMENTALES DE PHYSICO-CHIMIE SUR LES AGREGATS DE VAN DER WAALS CONCERNENT SOUVENT LA DETERMINATION DE LEUR GEOMETRIE, LA MISE EN EVIDENCE DE PLUSIEURS ISOMERES, LEURS PROPRIETES SPECTROSCOPIQUES ET DYNAMIQUES. LA STRATEGIE UTILISEE POUR L'INTERPRETATION DE CES EXPERIENCES CONSISTE SOUVENT A DETERMINER THEORIQUEMENT LA STRUCTURE D'EQUILIBRE DES ISOMERES AINSI QUE LES BARRIERES ENERGETIQUES LES SEPARANT. EN SUPPOSANT L'EQUILIBRETHERMODYNAMIQUE ATTEINT, ON DEDUIT LA PROBABILITE DE PRESENCE DE CHAQUE ISOMERE FORME DANS LE JET SUPERSONIQUE, AINSI QUE LA VALEUR D'UN CERTAIN NOMBRE DE GRANDEURS QUI PEUVENT LEUR ETRE ASSOCIES TELLES QUE POTENTIEL D'IONISATION VERTICAL OU ADIABATIQUE, MOMENT DIPOLAIRE... CETTE STRATEGIE NE PREND PAS EN COMPTE L'EFFET DE LA TEMPERATURE FINIE DE L'AGREGAT. ELLE NE PERMET PAS NON PLUS D'ACCEDER A DES PHENOMENES DYNAMIQUES TELS QUE DISSOCIATION, DIFFUSION .... LA METHODE QUI TIENT COMPTE DE L'ENSEMBLE DE CES PARAMETRES EST LA SIMULATION DE DYNAMIQUE MOLECULAIRE. ELLE CONSISTE EN EFFET EN L'EXPLORATION AU COURS DU TEMPS DE L'HYPERSURFACE D'ENERGIE POTENTIELLE ACCESSIBLE AU SYSTEME A UNE ENERGIE DONNEE. CETTE METHODE EST APPLIQUEE A LA CARACTERISATION DE PROPRIETES DYNAMIQUES D'AGREGATS MOLECULAIRES DE VAN DER WAALS. LES SYSTEMES CHOISIS ONT PAR AILLEURS FAIT L'OBJET D'ETUDES EXPERIMENTALES ET NOUS AVONS PU AINSI CONTRIBUER A L'INTERPRETATION DE CERTAINS RESULTATS. LES DEUX PREMIERS SYSTEMES CORRESPONDENT A DES SIMULATIONS REALISEES A L'EQUILIBRE THERMODYNAMIQUE. L'EVOLUTION EN FONCTION DE LA TEMPERATURE DU MOMENT DIPOLAIRE DES DEUX ISOMERES DU COMPLEXE ACETONITRILE-EAU EST ETUDIEE, AINSI QUE LA POSSIBILITE DE LES SEPARER PAR ATTACHEMENT ELECTRONIQUE. LA LOCALISATION, LA DIFFUSION ET L'AGREGATION DE MOLECULES D'OXYDE NITRIQUE DANS DES AGREGATS D'ARGON SONT ENSUITE ETUDIEES. LE MECANISME DE DIFFUSION EST ETUDIE EN DETAIL. LE DERNIER SYSTEME CORRESPOND A DES SIMULATIONS REALISEES HORS EQUILIBRE. ELLES CONSISTENT EN L'ETUDE DE LA REORGANISATION DE GEOMETRIE D'AGREGATS COMPOSES D'UNE MOLECULE DE BENZENE ET DE QUELQUES MOLECULES D'EAU (DE UNE A DIX) APRES IONISATION DE LA MOLECULE DE BENZENE. ON CARACTERISE NOTAMMENT LES ZONES FRANCK-CONDON DES AGREGATS, LES VOIES DE DISSOCIATION, AINSI QUE LE PROCESSUS DE RELAXATION DE L'EXCES D'ENERGIE DANS LES PLUS GROS AGREGATS.

Book excerpt: Charge and excitation transfer phenomena play a predominant role in varied physical and chemical problems such as photosynthesis, molecular electronics, or the damage to nucleic acids. However, due to the subtlety of the interactions involved and the extent of the systems in which they occur, these phenomena are complex to characterize theoretically. In this work, the interactions are studied, and then modelled, using a combination of an effective Hamiltonian methodology and model potentials derived from accurate ab initio calculations. The design of these potentials is presented, from a methodological and practical standpoint. The model is applied, in the first place, to the study of charge resonance phenomena in aromatic cluster ions. Although charge transfer effects dominate in small clusters, they compete with polarization effects in larger ones. Global exploration of the potential energy surfaces of the neutral and ionic clusters provides the optimal structures for these species, as well as the associated electronic properties. The experimental ionization potentials of these species are correctly predicted by molecular dynamics simulations. In a second part, the study of singlet excitation transfer in small DNA fragments is undertaken. It is shown that the electronic excited states of such fragments may involve large tracts inside the base pair sequence, promoting energy migration along the double helix. The influence of structural disorder on the topology of the excited states is also evaluated. Finally, the coupling between classical and quantum mechanical degrees of freedom is implemented using a trajectory surface hopping formalism, applied to the non-radiative de-excitation of excited aromatic clusters.

It is one of the fields of knowledge that yield extraordinary precessions, limited only by the computational resources available. Among these methods is density functional theory (DFT), which permits one to solve the equations of quantum mechanics more efficiently than with any related method. The present volume represents the most comprehensive summary currently available in density functional theory and its applications in chemistry from atomic physics to molecular dynamics. DFT is currently being used by more than fifty percent of computational chemists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitroxides are versatile small organic molecules possessing a stabilised free radical. With their unpaired electron spin they display a unique reactivity towards various environmental factors, enabling a diverse range of applications. They have uses as synthetic tools, such as catalysts or building blocks; imaging agents and probes in biomedicine and materials science; for medicinal antioxidant applications; and in energy storage. Polynitroxides (polymers bearing pendant nitroxide sidechains) have been used in organic radical batteries, oxidation catalysts and in exchange reactions for constructing complex architectures. Chapters in this book cover the synthesis of nitroxides, EPR studies and magnetic resonance applications, physiochemical studies, and applications including in batteries, imaging and organic synthesis. With contributions from leaders in the field, Nitroxides will be of interest to graduate students and researchers across chemistry, physics, biology and materials science.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic lasers are broadly tunable coherent sources, potentially compact, convenient and manufactured at low-costs. Appeared in the mid 60’s as solid-state alternatives for liquid dye lasers, they recently gained a new dimension after the demonstration of organic semiconductor lasers in the 90's. More recently, new perspectives appeared at the nanoscale, with organic polariton and surface plasmon lasers. After a brief reminder to laser physics, a first chapter exposes what makes organic solid-state organic lasers specific. The laser architectures used in organic lasers are then reviewed, with a state-of-the-art review of the performances of devices with regard to output power, threshold, lifetime, beam quality etc. A survey of the recent trends in the field is given, highlighting the latest developments with a special focus on the challenges remaining for achieving direct electrical pumping of organic semiconductor lasers. A last chapter covers the applications of organic solid-state lasers.
