Book Synopsis Flow Sensing in Air and Water by : Horst Bleckmann
Download or read book Flow Sensing in Air and Water written by Horst Bleckmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-22 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, leading scientists in the fields of sensory biology, neuroscience, physics and engineering explore the basic operational principles and behavioral uses of flow sensing in animals and how they might be applied to engineering applications such as autonomous control of underwater or aerial vehicles. Although humans possess no flow-sensing abilities, countless aquatic (e.g. fish, cephalopods and seals), terrestrial (e.g. crickets and spiders) and aerial (e.g. bats) animals have flow sensing abilities that underlie remarkable behavioral feats. These include the ability to follow silent hydrodynamic trails long after the trailblazer has left the scene, to form hydrodynamic images of their environment in total darkness, and to swim or fly efficiently and effortlessly in the face of destabilizing currents and winds.

Download or read book Genmix written by D Brian Spalding and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genmix: A General Computer Program for Two-dimensional Parabolic Phenomena explains a computer program called GENMIX. The main intention of the program is to be used as a tool of instructions. The name of the program is a mixture of two considerations: its generality and its concern for mixing processes. The book aims to help the potential user to understand the physical and mathematical basis of the topic computer program. It is also the aim of the book to make the program applicable to practical problems. The book is arranged in such a way as to parallel a course of lectures and associated computer-workshop sessions wherein the student is allowed to do some elementary computations as soon as he has gained some knowledge of the method. The book contains the mathematical, physical, and computer-coding aspects of the program. Concepts such as the boundary layer, two-dimensional, and steady- flow are defined and discussed in depth. The text will be a useful tool for computer instructors and students.
Download or read book Yield Design written by Jean Salençon and published by Wiley-ISTE. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the middle of the 20th Century yield design approaches have been identified with the lower and upper bound theorem of limit analysis theory – a theory associated with perfect plasticity. This theory is very restrictive regarding the applicability of yield design approaches, which have been used for centuries for the stability of civil engineering structures. This book presents a theory of yield design within the original “equilibrium/resistance” framework rather than referring to the theories of plasticity or limit analysis; expressing the compatibility between the equilibrium of the considered structure and the resistance of its constituent material through simple mathematical arguments of duality and convex analysis results in a general formulation, which encompasses the many aspects of its implementation to various stability analysis problems. After a historic outline and an introductory example, the general theory is developed for the three-dimensional continuum model in a versatile form based upon simple arguments from the mathematical theory of convexity. It is then straightforwardly transposed to the one-dimensional curvilinear continuum, for the yield design analysis of beams, and the two-dimensional continuum model of plates and thin slabs subjected to bending. Field and laboratory observations of the collapse of mechanical systems are presented along with the defining concept of the multi-parameter loading mode. The compatibility of equilibrium and resistance is first expressed in its primal form, on the basis of the equilibrium equations and the strength domain of the material defined by a convex strength criterion along with the dual approach in the field of potentially safe loads, as is the highlighting of the role implicitly played by the theory of yield design as the fundamental basis of the implementation of the ultimate limit state design (ULSD) philosophy with the explicit introduction of resistance parameters. Contents 1. Origins and Topicality of a Concept. 2. An Introductory Example of the Yield Design Approach. 3. The Continuum Mechanics Framework. 4. Primal Approach of the Theory of Yield Design. 5. Dual Approach of the Theory of Yield Design. 6. Kinematic Exterior Approach. 7. Ultimate Limit State Design from the Theory of Yield Design. 8. Optimality and Probability Approaches of Yield Design. 9. Yield Design of Structures. 10. Yield Design of Plates: the Model. 11. Yield Design of Plates Subjected to Pure Bending. About the Authors Jean Salençon is Emeritus Professor at École polytechnique and École des ponts et chaussées, ParisTech, France. Since 2009 he has been a member of the Administrative Board of CNRS (Paris, France). He has received many awards including the Légion d’Honneur (Commander), Ordre National du Mérite (Officer) and Palmes Académiques (Commander). This book was released on 2016-03-02 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a valuable discussion of renormalization through the addition of counterterms to the Lagrangian, giving the first complete proof of the cancellation of all divergences in an arbitrary interaction. The author also introduces a new method of renormalizing an arbitrary Feynman amplitude, a method that is simpler than previous approaches and can be used to study the renormalized perturbation series in quantum field theory.

Book Synopsis Simulation numérique en mécanique des fluides. 2e édition by : Philippe Traoré
Download or read book Simulation numérique en mécanique des fluides. 2e édition written by Philippe Traoré and published by Éditions Cépaduès. This book was released on 2022-08-10 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LE TRAVAIL PRESENTE DANS CETTE THESE EST PRINCIPALEMENT UNE CONTRIBUTION A L'ANALYSE D'APPROXIMATIONS STABILISEES POUR DES PROBLEMES DE CONVECTION-DIFFUSION LINEAIRES. UNE ETUDE NUMERIQUE D'UN PROBLEME D'INTERACTION FLUIDE-STRUCTURE EST EGALEMENT PRESENTEE. POUR UNE EQUATION DE CONVECTION-DIFFUSION STATIONNAIRE, ON ANALYSE LA PRECISION D'UN SCHEMA ELEMENTS FINIS COMPORTANT UN TERME DE STABILISATION SOUS FORME DE DISSIPATION DU QUATRIEME ORDRE. DANS UNE PREMIERE PARTIE, ON SE RESTREINT A UNE ANALYSE POUR DES MAILLAGES SIMPLICIAUX REGULIERS AU SENS DES ELEMENTS FINIS. POUR UN PROBLEME DANS IR#N AVEC N 3, ON OBTIENT DES ESTIMATIONS DE L'ERREUR D'APPROXIMATION DANS L#2 ET DANS H#1 POUR UNE DISSIPATION SOUS FORME VARIATIONNELLE. DANS LE CAS BIDIMENSIONNEL, ON ETUDIE PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT UN SCHEMA DE TYPE JAMESON, COMPOSE D'UNE PARTIE CENTREE DE TYPE MIXTE ELEMENTS FINIS/VOLUMES FINIS ET D'UNE DISSIPATION EN DIFFERENCES QUATRIEMES NON CONSISTANTE. DANS UNE DEUXIEME PARTIE, ON CONSIDERE L'APPROXIMATION D'UN PROBLEME DE CONVECTION-DIFFUSION DONT LA SOLUTION PRESENTE DES COUCHES LIMITES. ON OBTIENT DES ESTIMATIONS D'ERREUR DANS LA NORME DE L'ENERGIE POUR UN SCHEMA ELEMENTS FINIS AVEC UNE DISSIPATION DU QUATRIEME ORDRE CONSISTANTE, POUR DES MAILLAGES TRIANGULAIRES LOCALEMENT ANISOTROPES DANS LES COUCHES LIMITES. LE SCHEMA ETUDIE EST COMPARE A DES SCHEMAS VOLUMES FINIS DU SECOND ORDRE. DANS UNE TROISIEME PARTIE, ON ANALYSE LA CONSISTANCE LOCALE DES SCHEMAS AYANT LA PROPRIETE DE PRESERVATION DE LA LINEARITE, SUR DES MAILLAGES NON STRUCTURES. UNE QUATRIEME PARTIE EST CONSACREE A L'ETUDE NUMERIQUE D'UN SCHEMA IMPLICITE LINEARISE DANS LE CADRE DE L'ANALYSE DU FLOTTEMENT D'UN PROFIL D'AILE DANS UN ECOULEMENT
