Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOUS AVONS ETUDIE LA PERFORMANCE ANALOGIQUE ET LE COMPORTEMENT EN ENVIRONNEMENT RADIATIF DE LA TECHNOLOGIE DURCIE HSOI3-HD EN VUE D'APPLICATIONS POUR L'ELECTRONIQUE DU LHC, FUTUR ACCELERATEUR DE PARTICULES DU CERN. CETTE TECHNOLOGIE CMOS SUR SOI N'EST PAS SENSIBLE AU LATCH-UP ET SON SEUIL DE SENSIBILITE POUR L'ALEA LOGIQUE (SEU) EST TRES ELEVE. NOUS AVONS MESURE ET ANALYSE LES EFFETS DE LA DOSE INTEGREE SUR LES CARACTERISTIQUES STATIQUES DES TRANSISTORS, ET VERIFIE QUE LE DURCISSEMENT JUSQU'A 25 MRAD EST SATISFAISANT POUR LES APPLICATIONS VISEES. LES EFFETS DES IRRADIATIONS AVEC PROTONS ET NEUTRONS ONT ETE MESURES, ET MONTRENT QUE LES EFFETS D'IONISATION DOMINENT SUR LES EFFETS DE DEPLACEMENT PROVOQUES PAR CES PARTICULES. LORS DE L'ETUDE DU BRUIT, NOUS AVONS OBSERVE UNE COMPOSANTE ADDITIONNELLE QUI APPARAIT DANS LE SPECTRE ET SE SUPERPOSE AUX SOURCES DE BRUIT 1/F ET BLANC. CETTE COMPOSANTE SE PRESENTE COMME UNE BOSSE QUI SE DEPLACE EN AMPLITUDE ET FREQUENCE EN FONCTION DE LA POLARISATION DU SUBSTRAT ET DU FILM (BODY). LE MODELE QUE NOUS PROPOSONS SUR SON ORIGINE MET EN JEU LA RESISTANCE DU FILM, QUI GENERE UN BRUIT BLANC FILTRE PAR LA CAPACITE CONSTITUEE PAR LES GRILLES DE FACE AVANT ET DE FACE ARRIERE DU TRANSISTOR. LE BRUIT DE LA RESISTANCE EST TRANSMIS EN COURANT AU DRAIN, ET ATTENUE A PARTIR DE LA FREQUENCE DE COUPURE DU FILTRE. NOUS PRESENTONS UNE SERIE DE VERIFICATIONS EXPERIMENTALES DE CE MODELE, REALISEES SUR DES STRUCTURES SPECIALEMENT CONCUES. UN CIRCUIT CONVERTISSEUR NON LINEAIRE A 11 BITS DE DYNAMIQUE, FONCTIONNANT A 5 MHZ AVEC UNE CONSOMMATION INFERIEURE A 50 MW, A ETE CONCU ET FABRIQUE. L'IRRADIATION A 10 MRAD A COMPROMIS LE FONCTIONNEMENT CORRECT DU CIRCUIT, CE QUI N'EST PAS EXPLICABLE A PARTIR DES MESURES STATISTIQUES SUR LES TRANSISTORS FABRIQUES EN MEME TEMPS. IL SEMBLE DONC NECESSAIRE, DANS L'EVALUATION DU DURCISSEMENT D'UNE TCHNOLOGIE, DE PASSER PAR UNE PHASE DE QUALIFICATION DES CIRCUITS TYPIQUES DE L'APPLICATION SOUHAITEE.

Book excerpt: L'OBJETCTIF DE CETTE THESE EST LA CARACTERISATION ET LA MODELISATION DES TRANSISTORS MOS-SOI COMPLETEMENT DEPLETES DANS LA GAMME DES HAUTES TEMPERATURES (25C - 300C). LE PREMIER CHAPITRE EST UN BREF RAPPEL DES PRINCIPAUX AVANTAGES DE LA TECHNOLOGIE SOI POUR DES APPLICATIONS HAUTES TEMPERATURES. UNE RELATION ENTRE LES MODELES EMPIRIQUE ET PHYSIQUE DE LA MOBILITE EFFECTIVE DES PORTEURS EST ETABLIE DANS LE DEUXIEME CHAPITRE. CETTE RELATION EXPLIQUE LE ROLE DE TROIS PRINCIPAUX MECANISMES DE COLLISIONS DANS LE MODELE EMPIRIQUE AINSI QUE LA VARIATION DE SES PARAMETRES AVEC LA TEMPERATURE. LE TROISIEME CHAPITRE EST RELATIF A LA VARIATION DE LA TENSION DE SEUIL (V#T#1) ET DU SWING (S) AVEC LA TEMPERATURE. NOUS ETUDIONS LA SENSIBILITE A LA TEMPERATURE DE V#T#1 ET DE S EN FONCTION DE LA LONGUEUR DE CANAL, DE L'EPAISSEUR DU FILM ET DE LA POLARISATION DE LA GRILLE ARRIERE. LA DIFFERENCE ENTRE DES TRANSISTORS A CANAL D'INVERSION ET D'ACCUMULATION EST EGALEMENT DISCUTEE. DANS LE DERNIER CHAPITRE NOUS DEVELOPPONS UNE METHODE POUR L'EXTRACTION DU GAIN DU TRANSISTOR BIPOLAIRE PARASITE. EN NOUS BASANT SUR LES VALEURS EXPERIMENTALES, NOUS PRESENTONS UN MODELE POUR LE GAIN EN FONCTION DE LA TEMPERATURE ET DES POLARISATIONS DE DRAIN ET DE GRILLE. ENSUITE, NOUS PROPOSONS UNE TECHNIQUE POUR LA SEPARATION DES EFFETS DE CANAL COURT, DE SUBSTRAT FLOTTANT ET D'AUTO-ECHAUFFEMENT EN UTILISANT LA VARIATION DE LA CONDUCTANCE DE SORTIE AVEC LA TEMPERATURE. EN CONCLUSION, NOS ETUDES ONT MONTRE QUE LA TECHNOLOGIE SOI COMPLETEMENT DEPLETEE REPOND A TOUTES LES EXIGENCES DES CIRCUITS INTEGRES HAUTES TEMPERATURES. CEPENDANT L'OPTIMISATION DES DISPOSITIFS EST INDISPENSABLE POUR GARANTIR LE FONCTIONNEMENT CORRECT DES CIRCUITS AUX TRES HAUTES TEMPERATURES.

Book excerpt: Time-interleaved Analog-to-Digital Converters describes the research performed on low-power time-interleaved ADCs. A detailed theoretical analysis is made of the time-interleaved Track & Hold, since it must be capable of handling signals in the GHz range with little distortion, and minimal power consumption. Timing calibration is not attractive, therefore design techniques are presented which do not require timing calibration. The design of power efficient sub-ADCs is addressed with a theoretical analysis of a successive approximation converter and a pipeline converter. It turns out that the first can consume about 10 times less power than the latter, and this conclusion is supported by literature. Time-interleaved Analog-to-Digital Converters describes the design of a high performance time-interleaved ADC, with much attention for practical design aspects, aiming at both industry and research. Measurements show best-inclass performance with a sample-rate of 1.8 GS/s, 7.9 ENOBs and a power efficiency of 1 pJ/conversion-step.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Political Economy of Populism explores the interplay between identity, the economy and inequality to explain the dynamics of populist votes since the beginning of the 20th century. The book discusses the political and economic implications of populist governance using data on populist incumbencies and linking it to historical data on the macro economy and democracy. Chapters draw from the most recent political science, economics and other social science literature, as well as historical data, to explain the long-term causes and consequences of populism. Populism emerges and gains traction when political entrepreneurs exploit underlying identity conflicts for political gains. As the distributional consequences of both economic distress and economic growth typically favor the elite over the poor and the lower middle class, economic shocks usually sharpen the underlying identity conflicts between the groups. The book provides evidence of significant differences in the ways fiscal and monetary policies are conducted by incumbent populists in Latin America, Europe and the OECD. The work concludes by suggesting avenues through which a 21st century social consensus can be built, so that our society can avoid repeating the mistakes that led to wars and failed economic experiments in the 20th century. The Political Economy of Populism marks a significant contribution to the study of populism and is suited to students and scholars across the social sciences, including economics, political science and sociology.

The first section is concerned with the atomic and electronic structure, and covers growth defects and doping and defect reactions. The emphasis is on the optical and electronic properties that result from the disordered structure. The second part of the book describes electronic conduction, recombination, interfaces, and multilayers. The special attribute of a-Si:H which makes it useful is the ability to deposit the material inexpensively over large areas, while retaining good semiconducting properties, and the final chapter discusses various applications and devices.

Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the latest research and development of new technologies for cognitive radio, mobile communications, and wireless networks. The contributors discuss the research and requirement analysis and initial standardization work towards 5G cellular systems and the capacity problems it presents. They show how cognitive radio, with the capability to flexibly adapt its parameters, has been proposed as the enabling technology for unlicensed secondary users to dynamically access the licensed spectrum owned by legacy primary users on a negotiated or an opportunistic basis. They go on to show how cognitive radio is now perceived in a much broader paradigm that will contribute to solve the resource allocation problem that 5G requirements raise. The chapters represent hand-selected expanded papers from EAI sponsored and hosted conferences such as the 12th EAI International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems, the 11th EAI International Conference on Heterogeneous Networking for Quality, Reliability, Security and Robustness, the 10th International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks, the 8th International Conference on Mobile Multimedia Communications, and the EAI International Conference on Software Defined Wireless Networks and Cognitive Technologies for IoT.
