Cette étude décrit les propriétés rhéologiques des mélanges de poudres et propose de voir l'impact de l'ensemble de ses facteurs en fabrication industrielle.Les différentes méthodes de caractérisation rhéologique d'un mélange de poudre y sont présentées et pour illustrer cette étude, un travail de caractérisation des propriétés physiques et d'aptitude à l'écoulement de plusieurs références produites par les Laboratoires Juva Productions a été effectué. Cette analyse prenant en compte les différentes caractéristiques des machines utilisées en production : machines à comprimés ronds (11 mm), oblong, 22 mm et géluleuse; a pour objectif d'établir les caractéristiques rhéologiques optimales des poudres pour chaque ligne de production étudiées.

Book excerpt: A ce jour, l'influence des propriétés physico-chimiques des grains élémentaires sur l'écoulement global des poudres n'est pas clairement établie. Pourtant, la connaissance des propriétés d'écoulement des poudres est capitale pour l'optimisation et le fonctionnement des étapes de transport, de stockage, ou encore pour des opérations unitaires de procédés mettant en jeu des poudres. En particulier, le procédé MiMas (Micronized Masterblend), mis en œuvre à l'usine MELOX pour la préparation du combustible nucléaire MOX, repose en grande partie sur la manutention de milieux granulaires, principalement à travers des étapes de mélange et de broyage. Dans cette étude, différentes poudres de céramique, essentiellement d'alumine, de zircone et d'oxyde d'yttrium, ont été caractérisées finement en termes de propriétés des grains et de comportement rhéologique à partir de tests de cisaillements. Un modèle, reposant sur le nombre adimensionnel de Bond granulaire et permettant de prédire la coulabilité macroscopique de poudres polydisperses à partir des propriétés des grains qui la constituent a été développé et validé. Celui-ci a notamment permis de prédire efficacement la coulabilité de mélanges binaires ou ternaires et de poudres broyées en fonction des propriétés des grains, de la composition des mélanges et du temps de broyage. La caractérisation des poudres broyées ou co-broyées dans un broyeur à boulets dans différentes conditions a également permis de préciser l'influence de différents paramètres opératoires tels que le temps de broyage, la vitesse de rotation ou le taux de remplissage de la jarre. Ces résultats ont notamment permis d'identifier les grandeurs adimensionnelles à prendre en compte en priorité pour un changement d'échelle du broyeur. Enfin, une méthodologie permettant de quantifier l'homogénéité de mélanges de poudres, mis sous la forme de pastilles, à différentes échelles a été mise en place dans le but de pouvoir comparer différents procédés de mélange et de co-broyage.

Book excerpt: L'une des étapes du procédé de conversion de l'UF6 gazeux en UO2 solide par voie sèche est la formation de poudre d'UO2F2 dans un jet coaxial triple UF6/N2/H2O. Les caractéristiques de la poudre obtenue ont ensuite une influence sur les propriétés des pastilles d'UO2 utilisées en réacteur nucléaire, d'où l'intérêt d'une bonne maîtrise de cette étape du procédé. L'étude présentée a pour but d'évaluer expérimentalement et de modéliser l'effet de divers paramètres sur les particules formées dans un jet coaxial turbulent suite à une réaction. On s'est notamment intéressé à l'influence sur les distributions granulométriques des vitesses absolues et relatives des gaz constituant le jet. Deux types d'études expérimentales ont été réalisés. Le développement des couches de mélange dans la région initiale du jet a d'abord été évalué à l'aide de mesures de température. des mesures de distributions granulométriques par turbidimétrie ont ensuite permis d'étudier les particules formées lors de l'hydrolyse de chlorures métalliques gazeux (SnCl4, TiCl4) dans un jet coaxial double ou triple. Une modélisation des phénomènes de mélange et de précipitation a été proposée. Elle prend notamment en compte le développement des couches de mélange, le mésomélange, le micromélange et la croissance des particules par agglomération. L'influence des paramètres opératoires, et en particulier des vitesses, apparaît différente pour les jets TICl4/H2O ET SnCL4/H2O. Une comparaison des résultats théoriques et expérimentaux semble indiquer que les particules formées par hydrolyse de TiCl4 croissent essentiellement par agglomération alors qu'un autre phénomène de croissance parait impliqué pour les particules issues de l'hydrolyse de SnCl4.
