Book excerpt: L’utilisation des mélanges hydrogénés permettrait de réduire significativement l’effet de serre (par les émissions de CO2) en diminuant l’utilisation des combustibles carbonés. L’addition de l’hydrogène au gaz naturel permet de faire fonctionner les turbines à gaz dans des régimes de combustion très pauvres afin de diminuer les émissions de NOX. Les mélanges de combustibles issus de la gazéification de la biomasse contenant du CH4, du H2, du CO, du CO2, ainsi que la recirculation des produits gazeux de combustion (CO2, H2O) sont également à considérer. De nouvelles données expérimentales ont été obtenues en réacteur auto-agité pour l’oxydation de H2, de CH4, et de mélanges avec H2, CO, CO2 et H2O (à 1 et 10 atm à des températures de 800-1450 K, la richesse variant de 0,1 à 2). Ces données sont très utiles pour étudier l’effet de l’hydrogène, du gaz de synthèse et de la recirculation sur l’oxydation du méthane. Un mécanisme cinétique détaillé a été développé pour la combustion des mélanges H2-O2, H2-CO, CH2O, CH3OH, CH4, CH4-H2, CH4-CO-H2 et validé en utilisant les données expérimentales de cette étude ainsi que les données de la littérature (réacteur auto-agité, réacteur à écoulement piston, tubes à choc et flamme laminaire pré-mélangée). L’étude cinétique indique que H2 et CO accélèrent l’oxydation de CH4 en favorisant les réactions de production des radicaux H et OH (H + O2 = OH + H, H + HO2 = 2OH, et H2 + OH = H2O + H) tandis que CO2 et H2O sont les inhibiteurs pour l’oxydation du méthane, en affectant l’équilibre des réactions CO + OH = CO2 + H et H + O2 + M = HO2 + M.

It consists on seeding solid culture medium with bacteria or fungi (filamentous or higher) and on producing, in this medium (solid components and exudates) metabolites and high value products. In fact, this process is very old. In older industries such the food and agricultural, this technique has been extensively used. An example of this is the production of pork sausages and Roquefort cheese. Pharmaceutical industry could make extensive use of SSF in the production of secondary metabolites of many kinds and development in this direction is soon expected.
