Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health Effect Assessments of the Basic Acrylates is the first book to provide a comprehensive discussion of the toxicological and ecotoxicological effects of the five major high-production volume acrylates: acrylic acid and the methyl, ethyl, butyl, and 2-ethylhexyl esters. Insightful interpretations of the effects of these acrylates on human populations and the environment are presented, and the severity of observed toxic responses is documented. The nature of the responses is discussed in relation to the metabolism and biological reactivity of the acid and each of the esters. Current areas of investigative toxicology as they apply to these chemicals are critically reviewed. The book also presents discussions on other significant aspects of the subject, including the mechanisms of forestomach tumor formation and the role of irritation in toxic responses. This volume stands alone as a complete review of these monomers and will be the standard reference for toxicologists, industrial hygienists, chemical engineers, chemists, and other researchers who need a foundation for research, testing, and development of sound risk assessments for these chemicals.

This book was released on 2019 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethyl Acrylate [sic] is an important organic compound with the molecular formula of CH2CHCO2CH2CH3 it has lot of industrial applications and also commercial applications. It is widely used in the manufacture of various polymers especially in the production of textile products, paints and fibres. There are many chemical pathways to produce ethyl acrylate and the selection of the best path depend on some important criteria such as the amount of the yield that produce, economic analysis, quality, production, safety, environmental impact and also the technical details like mass and energy balance. The goal of this research is to design a plant that produces 50, 000 tons/year of Ethyl [sic] Acrylate [sic] from the Glycerol. [sic] This process goes through three main parts which are dehydration in gas phase of crude glycerol to acrolien,[sic] oxidation of acrolein to acrylic acid and the last one esterification reaction where ethanol reacts with acrylic acid to form Ethyl [sic] acrylate. The dehydration of glycerol to acrolein is an adequate reaction with suitable economic and environmental aspects so, production of ethyl acrylate from glycerol lead to improve the sustainability in environmental care. Moreover, Ethyl [sic] acrylate market in the UAE and Gulf region is expected to due to the rise industrial growth, advance urbanization and rising residential and office space constructions. Furthermore, For [sic] each equipment in the ethyl acrylate plant a detailed calculations for material balance, energy balance and equipment's design have been constructed including heat exchanger, dehydration reactor, esterfication reactor, a pump, an absorber, and a storage tank, The detailed design of the plant included calculations such as the area, height, volume and diameter. Moreover, the ethyl acrylate plant was found to be in a payback period of approximately 4 years a profitable one by doing an Economic [sic] analysis. Finally the ethical issues, safety studies and environmental impacts have been discussed in which HAZOP was made for all the units in the plant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clay–Polymer Nanocomposites is a complete summary of the existing knowledge on this topic, from the basic concepts of synthesis and design to their applications in timely topics such as high-performance composites, environment, and energy issues. This book covers many aspects of synthesis such as in- situ polymerization within the interlamellar spacing of the clays or by reaction of pristine or pre-modified clays with reactive polymers and prepolymers. Indeed, nanocomposites can be prepared at industrial scale by melt mixing. Regardless the synthesis method, much is said in this book about the importance of theclay pre-modification step, which is demonstrated to be effective, on many occasions, in obtaining exfoliated nanocomposites. Clay–Polymer Nanocomposites reports the background to numerous characterization methods including solid state NMR, neutron scattering, diffraction and vibrational techniques as well as surface analytical methods, namely XPS, inverse gas chromatography and nitrogen adsorption to probe surface composition, wetting and textural/structural properties. Although not described in dedicated chapters, numerous X-ray diffraction patterns of clay–polymer nanocomposites and reference materials are displayed to account for the effects of intercalation and exfoliations of layered aluminosilicates. Finally, multiscale molecular simulation protocols are presenting for predicting morphologies and properties of nanostructured polymer systems with industrial relevance. As far as applications are concerned, Clay–Polymer Nanocomposites examines structural composites such as clay–epoxy and clay–biopolymers, the use of clay–polymer nanocomposites as reactive nanocomposite fillers, catalytic clay-(conductive) polymers and similar nanocomposites for the uptake of hazardous compounds or for controlled drug release, antibacterial applications, energy storage, and more. The most comprehensive coverage of the state of the art in clay–polymer nanocomposites, from synthesis and design to opportunities and applications Covers the various methods of characterization of clay–polymer nanocomposites - including spectroscopy, thermal analyses, and X-ray diffraction Includes a discussion of a range of application areas, including biomedicine, energy storage, biofouling resistance, and more

Book excerpt: Petroleum Engineer's Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids is a comprehensive manual that provides end users with information about oil field chemicals, such as drilling muds, corrosion and scale inhibitors, gelling agents and bacterial control. This book is an extension and update of Oil Field Chemicals published in 2003, and it presents a compilation of materials from literature and patents, arranged according to applications and the way a typical job is practiced. The text is composed of 23 chapters that cover oil field chemicals arranged according to their use. Each chapter follows a uniform template, starting with a brief overview of the chemical followed by reviews, monomers, polymerization, and fabrication. The different aspects of application, including safety and environmental impacts, for each chemical are also discussed throughout the chapters. The text also includes handy indices for trade names, acronyms and chemicals. Petroleum, production, drilling, completion, and operations engineers and managers will find this book invaluable for project management and production. Non-experts and students in petroleum engineering will also find this reference useful. Chemicals are ordered by use including drilling muds, corrosion inhibitors, and bacteria control Includes cutting edge chemicals and polymers such as water soluble polymers and viscosity control Handy index of chemical substances as well as a general chemical index
