Download or read book ¿Quo Vadis, Universidad? written by Esteban Bara, Francisco and published by Editorial UOC. This book was released on 2016-12-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: In Pura vida (Life is good)Spanish is more than vocabulary and grammar, just as Spanish-speaking cultures are more than products and practices. In this learner-centered introductory program, the authors’ commitment to a methodology based on true-to-life experiences brings Spanish to life. Pura vida is the discovery of a Spanish-speaking world through the experiences of real people who share anecdotes and reflections on those experiences. Students relate to these people and make deeper, more meaningful connections between language and culture, and acquire Spanish with an unparalleled sense of personal engagement. In this 12-chapter introductory program, students don’t only learn Spanish for real life, but also from real life. They discover that there is not just one homogeneous Hispanic culture, but rather that each Spanish-speaking country has its own rich, unique culture and that the people who live in these countries speak one common language with different accents, characteristics, and idiosyncrasies. The program offers truly seamless integration of cultural notions and language instruction and features 100% contextualized and personalized activities.

These include the representation of key educational stakeholders, required personnel and facilities, and the sequence of administrative activities in implementing an assessment. Particular attention is focused on sampling, such as defining the population to be assessed, elements of sampling theory, and the selection of schools and students to take part in an assessment. Readers are guided through the selection of a sample by working on a set of concrete tasks presented in the text, using data files in an accompanying CD. One section of Volume 3 is devoted to typical tasks involved in preparing, validating and managing data. Users are expected to develop competence in data preparation skills by carrying out the practical exercises in the CD. They are also shown how to complete important pre-analysis steps such as compute survey weights, calculate means and their sampling errors, and how to deal with non-responses and oversize and undersize schools. This volume is intended primarily for teams who are responsible for conducting national assessments and graduate students interested in technical aspects of large-scale surveys.

Download or read book Gringoismos written by Dave Adkins and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I took two years of Latin at Grinnell (Iowa) High School and two years of French at Cornell College, but I never really committed to using these languages. However, when I spent three years in Mozambique I had an opportunity to pursue the Portuguese language in an everyday situation. When I returned to the U.S., I studied the spoken and written form of the language with a Brazilian speaking partner and developed a useful fluency. I then decided to use the basics of Portuguese in the study of Spanish. I had a number of Spanish speaking partners, did some work assignments in Tehuacan, Mexico and earned an M.A. from the University of Leon. Using some creativity, I was able to read, write and converse in Spanish as often as I wished in my places of residence in Iowa and Texas. I have written this book of bilingual essays called “Gringoismos” which is a presentation of personal experiences in the Hispanic culture as well as some take-offs on Spanish writings.
