Book Synopsis Aircraft Systems Integration of Air-Launched Weapons by : Keith A. Rigby
Download or read book Aircraft Systems Integration of Air-Launched Weapons written by Keith A. Rigby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the earliest days of aviation where the pilot would drop simple bombs by hand, to the highly agile, stealthy aircraft of today that can deliver smart ordnance with extreme accuracy, engineers have striven to develop the capability to deliver weapons against targets reliably, safely and with precision. Aircraft Systems Integration of Air-Launched Weapons introduces the various aspects of weapons integration, primarily from the aircraft systems integration viewpoint, but also considers key parts of the weapon and the desired interactions with the aircraft required for successful target engagement. Key features: Addresses the broad range of subjects that relate directly to the systems integration of air-launched weapons with aircraft, such as the integration process, system and subsystem architectures, the essential contribution that open, international standards have on improving interoperability and reducing integration costs and timescales Describes the recent history of how industry and bodies such as NATO have driven the need for greater interoperability between weapons and aircraft and worked to reduce the cost and timescales associated with the systems integration of complex air-launched weapons with aircraft Explores future initiatives and technologies relating to the reduction of systems integration costs and timescales The systems integration of air-launched weapons with aircraft requires a multi-disciplinary set of engineering capabilities. As a typical weapons integration life-cycle spans several years, new engineers have to learn the skills required by on-the-job training and working with experienced weapons integrators. Aircraft Systems Integration of Air-Launched Weapons augments hands-on experience, thereby enabling the development of subject matter expertise more quickly and in a broader context than would be achieved by working through the life-cycle on one specific project. This book also serves as a useful revision source for experienced engineers in the field.

Book excerpt: Given the enormous destructive capacity of precision weapons in the modern era and the inherent vulnerabilities of modern society to high technology attack, this book is more relevant today than when it was first written in the midst of the nuclear age, in 1953. Remaining one of the finest texts ever written on the history of warfare and weapons acquisition, this is a thorough and reliable work that should be a standard reference for acquisition managers and decision-makers, providing a guide to informed decision-making that reflects the experience and lessons of the past. Download or read book Catalogue of Standard Ordnance Items: Volume 2: Artillery, Tank Armament, Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Harbor Defense Mines, Sights & Fire Control Equipme written by Office of the Chief of Ordnance Technica and published by Periscope Film LLC. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During WWII, the U.S. Army's ranks of men and its arsenal of equipment grew mightily. From a mere 190,000 soldiers in 1939, the Army would reach 8.4 million in 1945. That was a staggering achievement, and what is even more impressive is to consider how few guns, tanks, artillery and other essentials the military possessed prior to Pearl Harbor. Outfitting America's war machine, and assessing its needs and delivering the goods, was one of the War Department's most challenging tasks. To make it work, some weapons would be pressed into production even though they were obsolete, while others would be adopted as expedients in hopes that better replacements would soon be delivered. The full scope of what was produced in the handful of years between the military build-up that preceded December 7th and V-J Day is hard to comprehend. Fortunately, the War Department left behind this four volume "Catalogue of Standard Ordnance Items." A master catalogue that neatly lists most if not all of the vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and combat equipment that fought history's greatest war, it's an astonishing compendium. Volume 2 of the Catalogue details mobile artillery, railway and seacoast artillery, tank armament, anti-aircraft artillery, subcaliber guns, Army controlled submarine mines, fire control (including gun data computers and transmission systems, sights, telescopes and observation instruments, torque amplifiers, etc.) and aircraft armament. Companion books include Volume 2 which focuses on tanks, armored cars and vehicles, Volume 3 which examines small arms, and Volume 4 which is devoted to ammunition. This publication represents the first time in seventy years that Volume 2 has been presented in its entirety. Please note however, portions of this text were created from original versions that were sub-standard in quality. As a result, some areas of the text, photographs and diagrams may have quality or legibility issues.
