Book Synopsis Essays in Public Sector Entrepreneurship by : David B. Audretsch
Download or read book Essays in Public Sector Entrepreneurship written by David B. Audretsch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores public sector entrepreneurship from an international perspective. It features essays from eminent scholars in the field addressing entrepreneurial public policies from different countries. Public sector entrepreneurship is at the cusp of becoming a watchword in international policy circles. This book is a pioneer volume in this emerging field and provides topics and policies that are broadly applicable across different economies. Public sector entrepreneurship refers to innovative public policy initiatives that generate greater economic prosperity by transforming a status-quo economic environment into one that is more conducive to economic units engaging in creative activities in the face of uncertainty. In today’s economy, public sector entrepreneurship affects that transformation primarily by increasing the effectiveness of knowledge networks; that is, by increasing the heterogeneity of experiential ties among economic units and the ability of those same economic units to exploit such diversity. Through policy initiatives that are characterized by public sector entrepreneurship, there will be more development of new technology and hence more innovation throughout the economy.

As a scholar and policy advisor, Vito Tanzi has made a major contribution to identifying links between public finance and macro and microeconomic consequences. His findings bear relevance in both developing and industrialized economies. The essays in this volume and its companion, Fiscal Policy and Economic Reform, highlight many of these interconnected issues, for instance: * the interaction between budgetary policy and economic aggregates, such as employment, inflation and growth * the implication of economic linkages for designing fiscal policies * expenditure policies and alternative deficit financing strategies * the trade-offs between macro- and microeconomic objectives The list of contributors includes Max Corden, John Makin, Ronald McKinnon and Richard Musgrave.
Book Synopsis Organization with Incomplete Information by : Mukul Majumdar
Download or read book Organization with Incomplete Information written by Mukul Majumdar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-09-13 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been systematic attempts over the last twenty-five years to explore the implications of decision making with incomplete information and to model an 'economic man' as an information-processing organism. These efforts are associated with the work of Roy Radner, who joins other analysts in this collection to offer accessible overviews of the existing literature on topics such as Walrasian equilibrium with incomplete markets, rational expectations equilibrium, learning, Markovian games, dynamic game-theoretic models of organization, and experimental work on mechanism selection. Some essays also take up relatively new themes related to bounded rationality, complexity of decisions, and economic survival. The collection overall introduces models that add to the toolbox of economists, expand the boundaries of economic analysis, and enrich our understanding of the inefficiencies and complexities of organizational design in the presence of uncertainty.

Book Synopsis Essays on Portfolio Optimization and ESG Ratings under Risk Constraints and Incomplete Information by : Janke, Oliver
Download or read book Essays on Portfolio Optimization and ESG Ratings under Risk Constraints and Incomplete Information written by Janke, Oliver and published by Lehmanns Media. This book was released on with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we analyze various problems of dynamic portfolio optimization as well as green capital requirements under risk constraints and incomplete information. First, we examine the problem of optimal expected utility under the constraint of a utility-based shortfall risk measure in an incomplete market. The existence and uniqueness of an optimal solution to the problem are shown using a Lagrange multiplier and duality methods. Second, we consider the optimization problem under various levels of the investor’s information. By using martingale representation theorems, we demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of optimal solutions, which differ in their market dynamics. Third, we analyze the effects of green- and brownwashing on banks’ lending to firms, on the regulator’s deposit insurance subsidy, and on carbon emissions under different green capital requirement functions. Furthermore, we show that green capital requirements may compromise financial stability.
Book Synopsis Understanding Strategic Interaction by : Wulf Albers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategic interaction occurs whenever it depends on others what one finally obtains: on markets, in firms, in politics etc. Game theorists analyse such interaction normatively, using numerous different methods. The rationalistic approach assumes perfect rationality whereas behavioral theories take into account cognitive limitations of human decision makers. In the animal kingdom one usually refers to evolutionary forces when explaining social interaction. The volume contains innovative contributions, surveys of previous work and two interviews which shed new light on these important topics of the research agenda. The contributions come from highly regarded researchers from all over the world who like to express in this way their intellectual inspiration by the Nobel-laureate Reinhard Selten.

Book Synopsis Essays in Honor of James A. Graaskamp: Ten Years After by : James R. DeLisle
Download or read book Essays in Honor of James A. Graaskamp: Ten Years After written by James R. DeLisle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the title indicates, Essays in Honor of James A. Graaskamp: Ten Years After, is a collection of essays written to honor Graaskamp's major contributions to the field of real estate education and practice over the course of three decades. Upon his death in 1988, the industry lost a major influence for advancing the real estate discipline, both as an academic field and a professional field. The authors in this volume seek to extend Graaskamp's contributions and move the real estate discipline forward. The papers address the challenges posed by the market to return our attention to real estate fundamentals, and to strike a proper balance between Main Street and Wall Street. The authors and editors hope that this book will influence the industry to incorporate many of Grasskamp's ideas into mainstream real estate education and practice. Over the course of his career, Graaskamp made many noteworthy contributions to real estate theory and practice, ideas that if resurrected could offset some of the pressure in the industry to move away from market fundamentals. The authors try to capture the essence of Graaskamp's messages, and intend that the papers serve as a point of departure for discussing the future role and nature of real estate education. Part I focuses on the major contributions to the real estate discipline made by Graaskamp and the Wisconsin Real Estate Program. Part II contains some personal recollections and photos of Graaskamp, and also a summary of the groups that make up the Wisconsin Real Estate Program, a major co-sponsor of this volume. The rest of the book's three main parts are structured around major topics that reflect the multidisciplinary nature of real estate as espoused by Graaskamp. Part III treats real estate feasibility and development, Part IV concentrates on real estate valuation, and Part V discusses institutional economics.
