Book Synopsis Principios de Economía Política by : Carl Menger
Download or read book Principios de Economía Política written by Carl Menger and published by Bubok. This book was released on 2012-10-23 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2021 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Emotions, Protest, Democracy by : Emmy Eklundh
Download or read book Emotions, Protest, Democracy written by Emmy Eklundh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-30 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rise of both populist parties and social movements in Europe, the role of emotions in politics has once again become key to political debates, and particularly in the Spanish case. Since 2011, the Spanish political landscape has been redrawn. What started as the Indignados movement has now transformed into the party Podemos, which claims to address important deficits in popular representation. By creating space for emotions, the movement and the party have made this a key feature of their political subjectivity. Emotions and affect, however, are often viewed as either purely instrumental to political goals or completely detached from ‘real’ politics. This book argues that the hierarchy between the rational and the emotional works to sediment exclusionary practices in politics, deeming some forms of political expressions more worthy than others. Using radical theories of democracy, Emmy Eklundh masterfully tackles this problem and constructs an analytical framework based on the concept of visceral ties, which sees emotions and affect as constitutive of any collective identity. She later demonstrates empirically, using both ethnographic method and social media analysis, how the movement Indignados is different from the political party Podemos with regards to emotions and affect, but that both are suffering from a broader devaluation of emotional expressions in political life. Bridging social and political theory, Emotions, Protest, Democracy: Collective Identities in Contemporary Spain provides one of the few in-depth accounts of the transition from the movement Indignados to party Podemos, and the role of emotions in contemporary Spanish and European politics.
Book Synopsis Mass Intellectuality and Democratic Leadership in Higher Education by : Joss Winn
Download or read book Mass Intellectuality and Democratic Leadership in Higher Education written by Joss Winn and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Higher education in the UK is in crisis. The idea of the public university is under assault, and both the future of the sector and its relationship to society are being gambled. Higher education is increasingly unaffordable, its historic institutions are becoming untenable, and their purpose is resolutely instrumental. What and who have led us to this crisis? What are the alternatives? To whom do we look for leadership in revealing those alternatives? This book critically analyses intellectual leadership in the university, exploring ongoing efforts from around the world to create alternative models for organizing higher education and the production of knowledge. Its authors offer their experience and views from inside and beyond the structures of mainstream higher education, in order to reflect on efforts to create alternatives. In the process the volume asks: is it possible to reimagine the university democratically and cooperatively? If so, what are the implications for leadership not just within the university but also in terms of higher education's relationship to society? The authors argue that mass higher education is at the point where it no longer reflects the needs, capacities and longterm interests of global society. An alternative role and purpose is required, based upon 'mass intellectuality' or the real possibility of democracy in learning and the production of knowledge.
Book Synopsis Educational Alternatives in Latin America by : Robert Aman
Download or read book Educational Alternatives in Latin America written by Robert Aman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores diverse contemporary paradigms of educational praxis and learning in Latin America, both formal and non-formal. Each contributor offers a unique perspective on the factors which lead to the production of paradigms rooted in ‘other’ logics, cosmologies, and realities, and how these factors may renegotiate and redefine concepts of education, learning, and knowledge. The various chapters provide a road map for scholars, activists, artists, students, organizations, and social movements to help begin to construct learning spaces that seek to engage with a new more horizontal form of participatory democracy.

Book Synopsis The Moral Electricity of Print by : Ronald Briggs
Download or read book The Moral Electricity of Print written by Ronald Briggs and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best Nineteenth-Century Book Award Winner, 2018, Latin American Studies Association Nineteenth-Century Section Moral electricity—a term coined by American transcendentalists in the 1850s to describe the force of nature that was literacy and education in shaping a greater society. This concept wasn't strictly an American idea, of course, and Ronald Briggs introduces us to one of the greatest examples of this power: the literary scene in Lima, Peru, in the nineteenth century. As Briggs notes in the introduction to The Moral Electricity of Print, "the ideological glue that holds the American hemisphere together is a hope for the New World as a grand educational project combined with an anxiety about the baleful influence of a politically and morally decadent Old World that dominated literary output through its powerful publishing interests." The very nature of living as a writer and participating in the literary salons of Lima was, by definition, a revolutionary act that gave voice to the formerly colonized and now liberated people. In the actions of this literary community, as men and women worked toward the same educational goals, we see the birth of a truly independent Latin American literature.
