Book Synopsis Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations by : Iorio Júnior Iorio Jr.
Download or read book Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations written by Iorio Júnior Iorio Jr. and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-03-15 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was first published in 2001. It provides an introduction to Fourier analysis and partial differential equations and is intended to be used with courses for beginning graduate students. With minimal prerequisites the authors take the reader from fundamentals to research topics in the area of nonlinear evolution equations. The first part of the book consists of some very classical material, followed by a discussion of the theory of periodic distributions and the periodic Sobolev spaces. The authors then turn to the study of linear and nonlinear equations in the setting provided by periodic distributions. They assume only some familiarity with Banach and Hilbert spaces and the elementary properties of bounded linear operators. After presenting a fairly complete discussion of local and global well-posedness for the nonlinear Schrödinger and the Korteweg-de Vries equations, they turn their attention, in the two final chapters, to the non-periodic setting, concentrating on problems that do not occur in the periodic case.

Book Synopsis Nature Inside by : William D. Browning
Download or read book Nature Inside written by William D. Browning and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a leading proponent of biophilic design, this is the only practical guide to biophilic design principles for interior designers. Describing the key benefits, principles and processes of biophilic design, Nature Inside illustrates the implementation of biophilic design in interior design practice, across a range of international case studies – at different scales, and different typologies. Starting with the principles of biophilic design, and the principles and processes in practice, the book then showcases a variety of interior spaces – residential, retail, workplace, hospitality, education, healthcare and manufacturing. The final chapter looks ‘outside the walls’, giving a case study at the campus and city scale. With practical guidance and real-world solutions that can be directly-applied in day-to-day practice, this is a must-have for designers interested in applying biophilic principles.

Download or read book Fragments of Infinity written by Ivars Peterson and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2008-05-02 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A visual journey to the intersection of math and imagination, guided by an award-winning author Mathematics is right brain work, art left brain, right? Not so. This intriguing book shows how intertwined the disciplines are. Portraying the work of many contemporary artists in media from metals to glass to snow, Fragments of Infinity draws us into the mysteries of one-sided surfaces, four-dimensional spaces, self-similar structures, and other bizarre or seemingly impossible features of modern mathematics as they are given visible expression. Featuring more than 250 beautiful illustrations and photographs of artworks ranging from sculptures both massive and minute to elaborate geometric tapestries and mosaics of startling complexity, this is an enthralling exploration of abstract shapes, space, and time made tangible. Ivars Peterson (Washington, DC) is the mathematics writer and online editor of Science News and the author of The Jungles of Randomness (Wiley: 0-471-16449-6), as well as four previous trade books.
Book Synopsis The Origins of Infinitesimal Calculus by : Margaret E. Baron
Download or read book The Origins of Infinitesimal Calculus written by Margaret E. Baron and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Origins of Infinitesimal Calculus focuses on the evolution, development, and applications of infinitesimal calculus. The publication first ponders on Greek mathematics, transition to Western Europe, and some center of gravity determinations in the later 16th century. Discussions focus on the growth of kinematics in the West, latitude of forms, influence of Aristotle, axiomatization of Greek mathematics, theory of proportion and means, method of exhaustion, discovery method of Archimedes, and curves, normals, tangents, and curvature. The manuscript then examines infinitesimals and indivisibles in the early 17th century and further advances in France and Italy. Topics include the link between differential and integral processes, concept of tangent, first investigations of the cycloid, and arithmetization of integration methods. The book reviews the infinitesimal methods in England and Low Countries and rectification of arcs. The publication is a vital source of information for historians, mathematicians, and researchers interested in infinitesimal calculus.
