Book Synopsis Religion, Toleration, and British Writing, 1790–1830 by : Mark Canuel
Download or read book Religion, Toleration, and British Writing, 1790–1830 written by Mark Canuel and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-10-17 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Religion, Toleration, and British Writing, 1790–1830, Mark Canuel examines the way that Romantic poets, novelists and political writers criticized the traditional grounding of British political unity in religious conformity. Canuel shows how a wide range of writers including Jeremy Bentham, Ann Radcliffe, Maria Edgeworth and Lord Byron not only undermined the validity of religion in the British state, but also imagined a new, tolerant and more organized mode of social inclusion. To argue against the authority of religion, Canuel claims, was to argue for a thoroughly revised form of tolerant yet highly organized government, in other words, a mode of political authority that provided unprecedented levels of inclusion and protection. Canuel argues that these writers saw their works as political and literary commentaries on the extent and limits of religious toleration. His study throws light on political history as well as the literature of the Romantic period.

Book excerpt: Why Africa? an abstract first painted in 1993 and reproduced in collage in 2004, is variously described by his admirers as an emotional revelation. The work depicts the African question problems and prospects including political instability, corruption, and poverty in the midst of rich natural and human resources. Thus, Why Africa? inspired him to write a book on the subject, applying his creativity with a unique perspective on the African case. Bona has written one book (unpublished) titled: The Ancient and Modern (1992) a story on Urualla, his ancestral origin in Nigeria.

Download or read book Yesterday written by Robert J. Firth and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yesterday is a book that each of us needs to write based on who and what we were and have become; the sum total of our education and experiences as we made our way through our allotted years. Any of us can do this at any time but, to me, it seemed that in my younger and middle years there was never time. What Yesterday is then is a general reminiscing, a ruminating if you will, over my life and times. It's not about me per se, but rather focuses on those verities and understandings learned along the way that we all recognize to be true. The book presents those thoughts and memories I felt worth passing on. In a way, writing this was like sifting through the detritus of seventy odd years, sort of panning for 'gold, ' letting my collected thoughts and experiences swirl in the pan, looking for those shining bits of value. I'm certain that you too have such knowledge and I know that you too have probably considered setting them down for the ages- so, go ahead, do it! Do it now. Once your mind ceases to function, overtaken by death or disease, memories evaporate like morning mist, as if they never were. While you can, I urge you to create, draw, film, write, do something to leave your mark. Keep a diary, record your experiences and thoughts. You are valuable, you are unique, don't pass us by without a sound. We need to hear what you have heard, we need to know what you have learned! So, tell us! Here you will find thoughts on choices and directions, values and truths, morality and relationships. We present a great number of facts and opinions and ask our readers sift though them, taking and using whatever you believe of value, enriching your own thoughts and hopefully, passing them on to others.

Book Synopsis Epitaph by : Dr. Carolyn LaDelle Bennett
Download or read book Epitaph written by Dr. Carolyn LaDelle Bennett and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2022-08-10 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nation dying of self-inflicted mental and moral wounds turns rabid—extremist. Leadership crippled by corruption, moral impairment, physical and mental decay, capable of nothing other than the same old thing, flails and destroys and in cowardice (likened to an infant but powered by lethal partners), ducks responsibility and blames a made-for-the-occasion “enemy.” America’s leadership class of kleptocrats, gerontocrats, incestuous hangers-on and clingers to Washington’s revolving door are the American (anachronistic, anarchist, nihilist) extremists. They create and feed on global and national crises; and spawn America’s weakness, unpreparedness, and loss of common defense. Their age must end. Epitaph returns to the framers of the American Union, lays out the nature of present-day American extremism with critical evidence from distant headlines and information sources and context of world thinkers — originating far beyond the Washington Beltway. The work ends with advisory notes to youth, and notes toward forming a More Perfect Union.
