Book Synopsis The Impact of Climate Policy on Environmental and Economic Performance by : Rolf Färe
Download or read book The Impact of Climate Policy on Environmental and Economic Performance written by Rolf Färe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sweden has a long history of ambitious environmental, energy and climate policy. Due to the large amount of data available it is possible to perform statistically sound analysis and assess long term changes in productivity, efficiency, and technological development. The data at hand together with Sweden’s ambitious energy and climate policy provides a unique opportunity to shed light on pertinent policy issues. The Impact of Climate Policy on Environmental and Economic Performance answers several key questions: What is the effect of the CO2 tax on environmental performance and profitability of firms? Does including emissions in productivity measurement of the industrial firm matter? Did the introduction of the EU ETS spur technological development in the Swedish industrial firm? What air pollutant is most inhibiting production when regulated? Being aware and learning from the Swedish case can be very relevant for countries that are in the process of shaping their climate policy. This book is of great importance to researchers and policy makers who are interested in environmental economics, industrial economics and climate change.

Book Synopsis Sustainability, Local Democracy and the Future: The Swedish Model by : U. Svedin
Download or read book Sustainability, Local Democracy and the Future: The Swedish Model written by U. Svedin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the challenges posed by the transformation of society towards much-needed sustainability. Especially, it deals with the local features of this change, but seen in a global context. The two cases examined - the municipalities of Linköping and Åtvidaberg - are Swedish, but the problems of how to relate locally to a globalized world are common today. The cases have been deliberately chosen to expose alternative types of choices for the local communities involved. Large Linköping is, historically, a nodal city of importance in the national grid of regional centres, one that relates to the nation state and represents officialdom. Small Åtvidaberg developed in the context of its forest region setting and metallurgy, and today operates directly to wider markets, while still emphasising its very local identity. The fact that these municipalities border each other provides a similar regional context, and differences between them may then not be entirely confused by a debate on drastically different geographical settings.
Book Synopsis The environmental turn in postwar Sweden by : David Larsson Heidenblad
Download or read book The environmental turn in postwar Sweden written by David Larsson Heidenblad and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stockholm Conference of 1972 drew the world’s attention to the global environmental crisis, but for people in Sweden the threat was nothing new. Anyone who read the papers or watched the television news was already familiar with the issues. Five years early, in the summer of 1967, the situation was very different. So what happened in between? This book explores the ‘environmental turn’ that took place in Sweden in the late-1960s. This radical change, the realisation that human beings were in the process of destroying their own environment, had major and far-reaching consequences. What was it that opened people’s eyes to the crisis? When did it happen? Who set the ball rolling? These are some of the questions the book addresses, shedding new light on the history of environmentalism.
Book Synopsis Sweden and ecological governance by : Lennart Lundqvist
Download or read book Sweden and ecological governance written by Lennart Lundqvist and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. Sweden is seen as a forerunner in environmental and ecological policy. Sweden and ecological governance is about policies and strategies for ecologically rational governance, and uses the Swedish case study to ask whether or not it is possible to move from a traditional environmental policy to a broad, integrated pursuit of sustainable development, as illustrated through the ‘Sustainable Sweden’ programme. The study begins by looking at the spatial dimensions of ecological governance, and goes on to consider the integration and effectiveness of sustainable development policies. It analyses the tension between democracy and sustainable development, which has a broader relevance beyond the Swedish model, to other nation states as well as the European Union as a whole. In this book the author offers the latest word in advanced implementation of sustainable development by a front-runner in environmental and ecological policy. It will be useful for students of environmental politics and sustainable development researchers.

It finds that Sweden has benefited from solid institutional and regulatory frameworks, extensive use of economic instruments, and significant planning and legislative reform. To meet its Environmental Quality Objectives, Sweden will need to implement more efficient environmental policies, further integrate environmental concerns with other policy, and further strengthen international environmental cooperation. The report makes 44 recommendations to help strengthen Sweden's environmental performance in the context of sustainable development.

Book Synopsis The Swedish Nuclear Dilemma by : William D. Nordhaus
Download or read book The Swedish Nuclear Dilemma written by William D. Nordhaus and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned economist William Nordhaus has developed many innovative approaches for analyzing complex environmental questions. He applies them to the possible phaseout of nuclear power in Sweden in The Swedish Nuclear Dilemma: Energy and the Environment. While making a major contribution to that debate, this book has value that extends well beyond the Swedish issue, to the careful and well-informed consideration of environmental and energy questions that industrialized nations and developing regions now face. It is essential for anyone interested in nuclear-power issues and climate change. The Swedish parliament has moved closer to eliminating nuclear energy, even while repeating commitments to reduce the greenhouse-gas emissions associated with fossil fuels. Nordhaus's Swedish Energy and Environmental Policy (SEEP) model quantifies the economic results of such a path. He analyzes the impact of factors such as deregulation of electricity generation, global climate-change policies, the decline of Sweden's economic growth, and the rethinking of its welfare state. He also sets the stage for more informed analysis of similarly difficult issues where economic and environmental goals clash.
Book Synopsis Science and Politics of Foreign Aid by : B. Hassler
Download or read book Science and Politics of Foreign Aid written by B. Hassler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-03-31 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary international aid can be beneficial to both the donor and recipient countries. Hassler (Sodertorn U., Huddinge, Sweden) investigates to what extent Swedish environmental assistance to the Baltic States can be explained by self-interested Swedish behavior. The author develops a theoretical framework for the analysis of Sweden's assistance, and validates the model against empirical data on the Swedish project portfolio. His data analysis suggests that, while the driving forces behind the formulation of policy were complex, the policy does appear to have had important components of self- interest. No subject index.
