This book was released on 1997 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two MILVANs loaded with 10 pallets each of 120mm tank ammunition were instrumented with Event Data Recorders (EDRs) from Instrumented Sensor Technology, Inc. Each unit was capable of recording shock/vibration for the lateral, longitudinal, and vertical axis and temperature/humidity. The MILVANs transportation cycle included travel by truck from Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAAP), Burlington, IA; to Concord, CA; ship from Concord, CA to Chinhae, South Korea; and rail from Chinhae, South Korea to Army Depot 11 (AD-11) at Chon-u/Chonan, South Korea. Environmental monitoring was conducted from 27 June - 19 July 1995. During monitoring, 566 shock/vibration events were experienced that met the triggering criteria programmed in the EDR and 1,354 temperature/humidity readings were collected.

Download or read book Environmental Monitoring of Stored Ammunition in South Korea (1995-1997). written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center (DAC), Validation Engineering Division (SIOAC-DEV), was tasked by Redstone Technical Test Center (RTTC) to monitor environmental conditions of stored ammunition in South Korea. Ammunition monitoring was conducted at two sites from August 1995 - May 1997. This report contains data obtained by the monitoring. The objective of the instrumentation was to obtain temperature and humidity data for stored ammunition located in South Korea. The data will be used for the purpose of ensuring long-term reliability of ammunition in the field. As expected, igloos showed the least temperature fluctuation of the warehousing facilities instrumented. The maximum temperature recorded inside an igloo was 83 degrees Fahrenheit. Above-ground magazines followed the daily temperature pattern, occasionally exceeding the maximum daily ambient temperature. The maximum temperature recorded inside an above-ground magazine was 113 degrees Fahrenheit. One Quonset hut was instrumented during cold weather months only, and it regularly exceeded maximum daily ambient temperatures. It appeared to have the potential to provide the most hostile warehousing environment of the structure types instrumented. Humidity levels in both above-ground magazines and igloos showed less deviation than ambient humidity level with neither warehousing structure type having a clear advantage.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two MILVANs loaded with 3OMM ammunition were monitored during transport from Savanna Army Depot Activity (SVDA) to Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA). The first instrumented MILVAN was transported on a flatbed semitrailer and the second MILVAN was transported by rail. Event Data Recorders (EDRs) from Instrumented Sensor Technology, Inc. were set up to monitor shock/vibration in all three axes as well as temperature and humidity. Monitoring was conducted on 3 June and 5-30 June 1997. The EDR monitoring the MILVAN transported over-the-road experienced 1,231 shock/vibration events and 222 temperature/humidity readings. The EDR monitoring the MILVAN transported by rail experienced 9,081 shock/vibration events and 4,122 temperature/humidity readings.

Book excerpt: This is an interim report giving the results of analyses of five samples taken near a pesticide disposal pit. The samples were analyzed for routine pesticides and special analyses were done for the phenoxy herbicides and for monuron and diuron. Analyses showed above normal concentrations of silvex ranging from 4.52 to 18.52 ppm. There was also residues of 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T present in the samples.

This book was released on 1976 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the methodology and results of an aquatic field survey conducted at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAP) during 1975. The purpose of this study was to establish the biological and chemical impacts of the discharges of a munitions load/assembly/pack (LAP) facility. The most significant munitions component handled at this facility is trinitrotoluene (TNT). The IAAP is located ten miles west of Burlington, Iowa. Three streams originate on, or pass through, the plant property. Brush Creek originates on plant property and receives the greatest input of treated wastewater discharges. Consequently, this stream received the primary interest during the study. Two field surveys were conducted, one during the spring period (19-27 June), and the other during the fall (6-16 October).

Book Synopsis Uptake of Explosives from Contaminated Soil by Existing Vegetation at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant by :
Download or read book Uptake of Explosives from Contaminated Soil by Existing Vegetation at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the uptake of explosives by existing vegetation growing in soils contaminated with 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) in three areas at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAP). To determine explosives uptake under natural environmental conditions, existing plant materials and soil from the root zone were sampled at different locations in each area, and plant materials were separated by species. Standard methods were used to determine the concentrations of explosives, their derivatives, and metabolites in the soil samples. Plant materials were also analyzed. The compound TNT was not detected in the aboveground portion of plants, and vegetation growing on TNT-contaminated soils is not considered a health hazard. However, soil and plant roots may contain TNT degradation products that may be toxic; hence, their consumption is not advised. The compound RDX was found in the tops and roots of plants growing on RDX-contaminated soils at all surveyed sites. Although RDX is not a listed carcinogen, several of its potentially present degradation products are carcinogens. Therefore, the consumption of any plant tissues growing on RDX-contaminated sites should be considered a potential health hazard. pg10. JMD.

Download or read book Aquatic Field Survey at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant written by R. L. Weitzel and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field collections were conducted during the summer period 12-24 August 1974. Material and specimens were collected for species diversity and distribution, chemical analysis of water and sediments, and bioaccumulation and biodegradation of munition compounds. Station locations used during this survey were established after consideration of the following: (1) the present sampling program conducted by plant personnel; (2) the effluent locations from various Operation Groups or Lines; and (3) the data received through past reports. There are approximately 21 miles of stream within the plant boundaries which also includes two lakes formed by the construction of dams. Three stream systems have their origins or pass through the IAAP installation. These include Long Creek which originates, in part, outside the installation boundary; Brush Creek which originates within the installation; and Spring Creek which also orginates, in part, outside the IAAP boundaries.
