Book Synopsis The Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship in Agriculture and Rural Development by : Gry Agnete Alsos
Download or read book The Handbook of Research on Entrepreneurship in Agriculture and Rural Development written by Gry Agnete Alsos and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The agriculture sector around the world has experienced profound changes in recent years. This unique and path-breaking Handbook draws together the best current research in the area of entrepreneurship in agriculture, food production and rural development. Agriculture policy reforms have impacted farm incomes, while demand side changes have required the development of sophisticated market driven strategies. Farmers have demonstrated uneven abilities to adapt and adjust to these ongoing changes. The ability and propensity of farmers to engage in entrepreneurial behaviors is a key explanation of the different patterns of responses within the sector. This book examines these issues through three main themes. The first theme focuses on the firm and the individual entrepreneurs, exploring entrepreneurship within the farm sector. The second takes a sector and industry perspective, exploring new developments in food production and distribution systems. The third theme explores the inter-relationship between agricultural entrepreneurship and its spatial context. Contributions are drawn from international research settings (Scandinavia, Europe, Asia, North America, Australasia) and offer an interdisciplinary approach to the subject. This astute Handbook, which will challenge and enrich the current literature, will appeal to academics in entrepreneurship, small business studies, agriculture, rural studies, rural sociology and agricultural economics, as well as food industry economists, policymakers and all those interested in supporting agricultural and rural businesses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the proceedings of the I-ESA’18 Conference, which was organised by the Fraunhofer IPK, on behalf of the European Virtual Laboratory for Enterprise Interoperability (INTEROP-VLab) and the DFI, and was held in Berlin, Germany in March 2018. It presents contributions ranging from academic research and case studies, to industrial and administrative experiences with interoperability that show how, in a globalised market scenario – where the ability to cooperate with other organisations efficiently is essential in order to remain economically, socially and environmentally cost-effective – the most innovative digitised and networked enterprises ensure that their systems and applications can interoperate across heterogeneous collaborative networks of independent organisations. Furthermore, the content addresses smart services, and the business impact of enterprise interoperability on organisations. Many of the papers in this ninth volume of the I-ESA Conference proceedings include examples and illustrations to help deepen readers’ understanding and generate new ideas. Offering a detailed guide to the state of the art in systems interoperability, the book will be of great value to all engineers and computer scientists working in manufacturing and other process industries, and to software engineers and electronic and manufacturing engineers working in academic settings.

Book Synopsis Driving Factors for Venture Creation and Success in Agricultural Entrepreneurship by : Arafat, Mohd Yasir
Download or read book Driving Factors for Venture Creation and Success in Agricultural Entrepreneurship written by Arafat, Mohd Yasir and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-10-22 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature on entrepreneurship research has generally ignored the agricultural sector. Few entrepreneurship scholars who are mostly agricultural economists and rural sociologists have contributed in parallel with an isolated body of work without much integration and a larger research agenda. Most of the work in agriculture entrepreneurship focuses on the traditional operations of the sector but lacks the theoretical framework required for a broader conceptual understanding of entrepreneurship in the agriculture sector. There is not much alliance between these two parallel research streams. Theoretical and methodological differences have constrained the interdisciplinary collaboration. Driving Factors for Venture Creation and Success in Agricultural Entrepreneurship assesses the main themes of agripreneurship, discusses important contextual aspects of the agriculture sector to enhance the understanding of entrepreneurship, and highlights how the key contextual dimensions of the agricultural sector can elucidate some of the less understood aspects of entrepreneurship theory and practice. Covering topics such as agribusiness and farm entrepreneurship, it is ideal for entrepreneurs, agriculturalists, professionals, researchers, students, academicians, and policymakers working in the field of entrepreneurship in various disciplines: management, education, agriculture education, sociology, economics, psychology, and technology.
Book Synopsis Enabling Agri-entrepreneurship and Innovation by : Catherine Chan
Download or read book Enabling Agri-entrepreneurship and Innovation written by Catherine Chan and published by CABI. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural entrepreneurs in conflict and post-conflict regions face special challenges; not just everyday personal risks, but also the difficulties of building small businesses when real or threatened violence can disrupt business growth cycles and economic security. Alongside establishing secure institutions, building a secure economy is rightly seen as the best way for conflict-torn regions to establish a peaceful future. But current agricultural entrepreneurship training and development starts from an assumption of peace, meaning that it is not always fit for purpose. The result is sub-optimal program design and inefficient use of resources. A product of a collaboration of experts in the fields of agri-business, agricultural marketing, and international development, this book gives officials and agencies developing entrepreneurship programs the practical real-life examples they need.
Book Synopsis The Meaning of "enterprise", "business" and "business Profits" Under Tax Treaties and EU Tax Law by : Guglielmo Maisto
Download or read book The Meaning of "enterprise", "business" and "business Profits" Under Tax Treaties and EU Tax Law written by Guglielmo Maisto and published by IBFD. This book was released on 2011 with total page 675 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Meaning of "Enterprise", "Business" and "Business Profits" under Tax Treaties and EU Tax Law, comprising the proceedings and working documents of an annual seminar held in Milan in November 2010, provides an in-depth analysis of the meaning of these three essential concepts in relevant tax treaties and law. The analysis starts from an EU tax law perspective, with a particular emphasis on the European Directives. The above concepts are then considered from domestic tax law viewpoints. The book then moves to tax treaty law. Most notably, an examination of the history and interpretation of the concepts of "enterprise", "business" and "business profits" is presented, starting from the works of the League of Nations to the current OECD Model Tax Convention. Next, specific tax treaty issues are considered. In particular, the controversial issues concerning the interpretation of the notions of "enterprise" and "enterprise of a Contracting State" are discussed. Also, the concepts of "profits" and "business profits" are thoroughly reviewed. The concept of "enterprise" in the context of the non-discrimination clause laid down by Art. 24 of the OECD Model Tax Convention is then examined. Individual country surveys provide an in-depth analysis of the aforementioned concepts and issues from a national viewpoint in selected European and North American jurisdictions, as well as in Australia and Japan. The book concludes with a round-table discussion among some of the most renowned international tax scholars on the desirability to change the OECD Model Tax Convention and its Commentaries. This book is essential reading for all those dealing with issues of taxation of enterprises engaged in cross-border activities and can be considered a new cornerstone in the subject matter."--Publisher's website

Book Synopsis Promoting the digitalization of small and medium-sized agrifood enterprises in Asia and the Pacific by : Gálvez Nogales, E.
Download or read book Promoting the digitalization of small and medium-sized agrifood enterprises in Asia and the Pacific written by Gálvez Nogales, E. and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) constitute the large majority of businesses both globally and in Asia and the Pacific. Despite their undeniable importance, the literature on SMEs in general, and agrifood SMEs in particular, is relatively limited. One specific area that deserves deeper consideration is the extent of digital engagement of agrifood SMEs along the agrifood value chain, from farm to retail and food services, in countries in Asia and the Pacific. The goal of this publication is to understand the current status of digitalization of agri-SMEs in Asia and the Pacific, what this process looks like and how to improve it. A value-chain approach was adopted to evaluate the digital maturity of all types of agri-SMEs across previously siloed categories – from farm to fork, and in the core and the extended value chain. The report analyses the benefits of digital transformation for agri-SMEs and the challenges they face in this process. Next, the report outlines practical and actionable measures that governments and other stakeholders may undertake to help agrifood SMEs stay ahead in the digital age. Special attention is given to the creation of a digital environment that enables agri-SMEs to increase the efficiency of their operations and allow them to grow. This is particularly important given that many agri-SMEs are located in rural agricultural areas, (where more than half of the population in Asia and the Pacific still resides), but where the environment is less favourable to digital transformation.
