Book excerpt: Report on a detailed study of the lithology, stratigraphy, and physical volcanology of the Siluro-Devonian volcanic and sedimentary sequence of the Passamaquoddy Bay area of southwestern New Brunswick. Geological investigations began in 1984 and mapping was done on 1:10,000 scale aerial photographs with detailed stratigraphic sections measured bed by bed.

Book Synopsis Field Relations, Petrology, and Structure of Neoproterozoic Rocks in the Caledonian Highlands, Southern New Brunswick by : S. M. Barr
Download or read book Field Relations, Petrology, and Structure of Neoproterozoic Rocks in the Caledonian Highlands, Southern New Brunswick written by S. M. Barr and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Caledonian highlands of southern New Brunswick are underlain mainly by volcanic, sedimentary, and plutonic rocks of Neoproterozoic age. This report presents results of field mapping, combined with petrologic and geochronological studies, of those Neoproterozoic rocks. It begins with a review of the regional geologic setting, then describes the lithological units. Field and stratigraphic relations among the volcanic and sedimentary rocks in the study area, as well as the distribution, field relations, petrochemistry, and age of the plutonic units, are interpreted. This is followed by interpretation of the tectonic setting and geological history of the area based on rock characteristics and a brief assessment of the area's mineral potential. Appendices include petrographic descriptions and results of geochemical analyses.

Book Synopsis Gold Metallogeny of the Cape Ray Fault Zone, Southwestern Newfoundland by : Benoît Dubé
Download or read book Gold Metallogeny of the Cape Ray Fault Zone, Southwestern Newfoundland written by Benoît Dubé and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study describes the geological characteristics of gold mineralization along the Cape Ray Fault Zone, which hosts one of the most important vein-type gold deposits in the Appalachians. The study focuses on the lithological and structural control of the mineralization and its relationship with the structural evolution of the fault zone. It is based on detailed lithological and structural analyses and radiometric dating along a 60-kilometre segment of the Zone as well as on a detailed mineral deposit study of the gold mineralization within the Zone. The study documents a continuum of deformation from the Late Silurian to Early Devonian and demonstrates the origin of the mineralization as well as the controls on the development and geometry of the auriferous zones.

Download or read book Geology of the Eastern Cobequid Highlands, Nova Scotia written by J. B. Murphy and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cobequid Highlands of Nova Scotia lie within the Avalon composite terrane of the Appalachian Orogen. This report presents a description & interpretation of the field, structural, and laboratory studies of pre-Carboniferous rocks of the eastern part of the Highlands based on mapping at 1:10,000 scale. It includes information on the Precambrian & Palaeozoic sedimentary, volcanic, & plutonic rocks; geochemistry of selected rocks; uranium-lead age determinations; and structural geology, including deformation histories & faults. Correlations with rocks in the Antigonish Highlands are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Structural Denudation of Silurian-Devonian High-grade Metamorphic Rocks and Postorogenic Detachment Faulting in the Maritimes Basin, Northern Nova Scotia by : Gregory Lynch
Download or read book Structural Denudation of Silurian-Devonian High-grade Metamorphic Rocks and Postorogenic Detachment Faulting in the Maritimes Basin, Northern Nova Scotia written by Gregory Lynch and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report attempts to classify, correlate, and characterize some of the regional-scale fault structures which, in part, accommodated the orogenic cycle that occurred from Silurian to Carboniferous time in northern Nova Scotia. After an introduction on the geological setting of Cape Breton Island, the report describes early tectonic thrusting in the Highlands shear zone & Cabot nappe, the Margaree shear zone & Late Devonian extension, and the Ainslie detachment & Carboniferous salt tectonics. Implications for the understanding of some lead-zinc mineralization are also discussed.
