Hence, I believe that this book will help you a lot in speaking and writing english effectively regarding with tenses . The concept of tenses is very important in effective communication to maintain both the speaking and writing ways of communication better. The term “tense” has been derived from the latin word “tempus” meaning time. Tense is one aspect of English grammar that often leaves us confused. Tenses can be broadly categorised into past, present, and future in connection with a situation, action or state. It is with tenses that many errors are committed. Nowadays most communication is through writing, be it courtesy mails, proposals, invoices, quotations, invites – everything needs to be written. So people who are into advancing their careers, their businesses, and those on the lookout for personal enrichment have no choice but to polish their grammar, especially the tenses. So what do we do? First of all figure out that Can we continue with the level of English we have now? Is it absolutely necessary that we improve? If the answer for the first is a ‘no' and for the second it is a ‘yes’, then, this is the next step. Things that you would need Will, dedication, and an open mind. One hour set aside everyday for a minimum 30 days, exclusively for investing in yourself, a quiet and bright room with no interruptions, mobiles switched off and most importantly, as you learn and work, it is important and essential to read aloud. This will give you practice and increase your comfort level with tenses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is among the first to combine a historical view of media texts with a critical look at their textual diversity today. The thirteen chapters cover corpora of early news-papers and pamphlets, present-day news stories and commentaries, TV talk shows and commercials as well as internet presentations. The studies focus on the wide range of text types in 18th century newspapers and the interpersonal strategies of pamphlets; they pursue the development of the persuasive potential of headlines and advertisements right down to the sophisticated postmodernist and multilingual examples of today. Other topics are the definition and structure of news stories and commentaries, the interpersonal and multi-modal aspects of talkshows, and more radically, the questioning of the journalist’s role in the age of the internet. Generally the stress is on the attention-getting side of media texts rather than on the manipulative qualities investigated by critical discourse analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on a substantial earlier literature, the chapters in this volume further advance knowledge and understanding of properties of the noun phrase in English. The empirical material for the papers includes both historical and present-day data, with the two often shedding light on each other in a process of mutual illumination. The topics addressed are: the structure of nounless NPs like the poor and the obvious; the article/zero alternation in expressions like go to (the) church; developments in the early history of adjective stacking; the semantics of N + clause units in present-day English; the history of N + BE + clause constructions; and the decline of two anaphoric NPs in Early Modern English. The volume will appeal to scholars working in this area and will also help those interested in the general field of English grammar to keep abreast of recent methods and results in NP-related work.

Book excerpt: At the end of the twentieth century more people are living into their seventies, eighties, nineties and beyond, a process expected to continue well into the next millennium. The twentieth century has achieved what people in other centuries only dreamed of: many can now expect to survive to old age in reasonably good health and can remain active and independent to the end, in contrast to the high death rate, ill health and destitution which affected all ages in the past. Yet this change is generally greeted not with triumph but with alarm. It is assumed that the longer people live, the longer they are ill and dependent, thus burdening a shrinking younger generation with the cost of pensions and health care. It is also widely believed that 'the past' saw few survivors into old age and these could be supported by their families without involving the taxpayer. In this first survey of old age throughout English history, these assumptions are challenged. Vivid pictures are given of the ways in which very large numbers of older people lived often vigorous and independent lives over many centuries. The book argues that old people have always been highly visible in English communities, and concludes that as people live longer due to the benefits of the rise in living standards, far from being 'burdens' they can be valuable contributors to their family and friends.
