This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hume (English Men of Letters Series) by Thomas Henry Huxley David Hume was born, in Edinburgh on the 26th of April (O.S.), 1711. His parents were then residing in the parish of the Tron church, apparently on a visit to the Scottish capital, as the small estate which his father Joseph Hume, or Home, inherited, lay in Berwickshire, on the banks of the Whitadder or Whitewater, a few miles from the border, and within sight of English ground. The paternal mansion was little more than a very modest farmhouse, and the property derived its name of Ninewells from a considerable spring, which breaks out on the slope in front of the house, and falls into the Whitadder. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.

Book excerpt: Among the distinctive characteristics of U.S. postsecondary education are access, choice, and variety. Students in this country have a diversity of choices as they seek college admission. The possibilities boggle the mind, especially as college administrators contemplate how to meet the service needs of diverse student populations with differing needs, abilities, and aspirations. It becomes an even greater challenge when one realizes that most institutions are confronted with students who fit into not one but several of these "life situation" categories. Thus, the challenge becomes one of how an institution should plan, program, and budget to meet the diverse and changing demands for services and resources. This challenge is faced by student affairs administrators regardless of the type of institution, but it is particularly demanding in a metropolitan university setting. A paucity of research is available about students who choose to attend metropolitan universities, and little opportunity exists for sharing ideas and expertise on how to meet the needs of these less-than-traditional students.
