Book excerpt: Excerpt from Engineering Education After the War There are several tendencies Of this period which are indicated by a study of the college catalogues and of the replies to inquiries. These tendenc1es, although more evident at this time, have been gradually developing, and in some cases they have been evident for years. There is some indication that more special courses are desired, such as compressed air engineering. Industrial engineering, heating and ventilating engineering; but there is a strong current of feeling that we should develop men fundamentally and broadly and leave the specialties to be acquired after graduation. Thus at the State Univer sity of Iowa the course Of the first three years in engineering is common to all engineers, and only two-thirds of the work Of the various branches of engineering in the senior year is different. Others report two years in common, and many report one year in common. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
