Book excerpt: This three-volume report examines energy end-use requirements and cost employed to characterize typical applications and resultant services in the U.S. and state manufacturing subsectors in 1977 and 1990. A review and evaluation of existing industrial energy data bases was undertaken to asses their potential for supporting SERI research to analyze technical and economic feasibility of solar technologies, and to establish multiyear R & D programs for solar thermal industrial electric power systems and solar IPH systems. Volume I details the activities performed in this effort. Volume II presents data on the U.S. and state manufacturing subsectors' energy end-use requirements disaggregated by 2- and 4-digit SIC and termperture level in 1977. Volume II contains the same data for 1990.

Book Synopsis Thermal Energy Storage Technologies for Sustainability by : S. Kalaiselvam
Download or read book Thermal Energy Storage Technologies for Sustainability written by S. Kalaiselvam and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-30 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal Energy Storage Technologies for Sustainability is a broad-based overview describing the state-of-the-art in latent, sensible, and thermo-chemical energy storage systems and their applications across industries. Beginning with a discussion of the efficiency and conservation advantages of balancing energy demand with production, the book goes on to describe current state-of-the art technologies. Not stopping with description, the authors also discuss design, modeling, and simulation of representative systems, and end with several case studies of systems in use. Describes how thermal energy storage helps bridge the gap between energy demand and supply, particularly for intermittent power sources like solar, wind, and tidal systems Provides tables, illustrations, and comparative case studies that show applications of TES systems across industries Includes a chapter on the rapidly developing field of viable nanotechnology-based thermal energy storage systems

Book Synopsis MITIGATING CLIMATE CHANGE: THE POWER OF "WE THE PEOPLE" by : Adeniyi A. Afonja

This book was released on 2020-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is real and there are many natural processes that have caused severe changes over millions of years. Fertile land has transformed into deserts; some dry lands today were at one time under water and many places covered by water currently were dry lands. ‘We the People’ are not the cause of climate change but many of our activities are compromising the natural control processes of the Human Environment Systems: energy production and use; agriculture and land use; deforestation, prolific lifestyles that leave large carbon footprints. The pressure is on governments worldwide to mitigate climate change but ‘We the People’ hold the ace: we use most of energy and consume most of the products of agriculture, and our excesses are fueling demand for even more energy; we fund the energy companies through our stocks and share investments and can moderate their excesses; we elect the politicians and can influence their policies; and, through mass actions, we have surmounted governments in many places or forced changes in policies; we have the formidable weapon of the social media to effect change without stepping out. The Climate Change Mitigation Movement is already in motion but ‘We the People’ also need to moderate our choices and lifestyles in order to move the world to carbon neutrality which is a prerequisite for a sustainable environment.

Book Synopsis Energy from the Desert by : Kosuke Kurokawa
Download or read book Energy from the Desert written by Kosuke Kurokawa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world's deserts are sufficiently large that, in theory, covering a fraction of their landmass with PV systems could generate many times the current primary global energy supply. This Energy from the Desert volume examines and evaluates the potential of very large scale photovoltaic power generation (VLS-PV) systems. Following from the success of the first book on the subject, the authors present practical case studies of both virtual and real projects based on selected regions (including the Mediterranean, the Middle East, the Gobi Desert and Western Australia) and their specific socio-economic dynamics, and argue that VLS-PV systems in desert areas will be readily available in the near future. As the essential companion to the previous International Energy Agency (IEA) volume it reiterates and develops key concepts introduced by the original study and provides firm practical recommendations to achieve long-term targets for policy-makers and investors.
Book Synopsis Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing Systems by : Sebastian Thiede
Download or read book Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing Systems written by Sebastian Thiede and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-23 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy consumption is of great interest to manufacturing companies. Beyond considering individual processes and machines, the perspective on process chains and factories as a whole holds major potentials for energy efficiency improvements. To exploit these potentials, dynamic interactions of different processes as well as auxiliary equipment (e.g. compressed air generation) need to be taken into account. In addition, planning and controlling manufacturing systems require balancing technical, economic and environmental objectives. Therefore, an innovative and comprehensive methodology – with a generic energy flow-oriented manufacturing simulation environment as a core element – is developed and embedded into a step-by-step application cycle. The concept is applied in its entirety to a wide range of case studies such as aluminium die casting, weaving mills, and printed circuit board assembly in order to demonstrate the broad applicability and the benefits that can be achieved.
