Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Compensation and Motivation" is the first book in the Culture of Partnership series. With a strong foundation in social science and behavioral psychology, this book will show you how to develop incentive plans that work! Turn the cost of compensation into an investment that will increase revenue and profit, enhance the value of the organization and motivate all employees to deliver the business strategy. Compensation and Motivation describes how to develop the right reward system that will engage and motivate the target audience. Employees come to work for the rewards, either material (money), social (recognition and appreciation) or both. Mr. McCoy shows how to combine behavioral psychology and business strategy to create a reward system that offers fulfillment to the employees if they deliver on the company goals. This book goes beyond just showing how to link pay to performance. It shows how to balance the array of rewards that a company can offer (cash, benefits, meaningful work, social recognition and appreciation) so that the maximum motivation is obtained with the least overall cost. It's called "the mix that motivates." Since this book was initially published, over 65 percent of all businesses now offer some form of incentive to all employees. However, many of those efforts are ineffective in achieving the organization's goals. This book shows how to engage all employees in the business, motivate them to perform at exceptional levels, create a common focus and a feeling of shared destiny (teamwork.) Learn how to become an employer of choice. Learn how to engage employees so that the operation "runs itself." Learn how to use compensation as the engine that drives a Culture of Partnership.

Book excerpt: IncentShare shows why and how to use incentives and variable compensation plans to engage and motivate your employees to achieve remarkable results. Among the many ways to energize a team, none are as powerful as sharing your success or gains with the people who will help you achieve them. When properly structured, incentives give employees a more personal stake in the organization's outcomes and result in: Higher engagement and morale. Better communication and teamwork. Stronger recruiting and retention. Increased productivity and profit. Too many existing incentive plans are ineffective and some are even counterproductive or harmful! For long-term prosperity, it is vital to carefully plan and properly implement incentives that "share your success." IncentShare author, Rob Marchalonis, provides insights, research, stories, and solutions to help you decide if incentives are right for your business or nonprofit enterprise. He reveals how to create and use smart incentive plans with a step-by-step process. He challenges misconceptions about compensation while proving his point with workplace engagement statistics, employment data, and real-world examples that demonstrate the power of incentives. If you want to recruit peak performers, improve productivity, and motivate your workforce for better results, then IncentShare is for you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no HR-related topic more popular in the business press than performance management (PM). There has been an explosion in writing on this topic in the past 5 years, condemning it as a failure and calling for fundamental change. The vast majority of organizations use the same basic process which I call “Last Generation Performance Management” or PM 1.0 for short. Despite widespread agreement that PM 1.0 is failing, few companies have abandoned it or made fundamental changes to it. While everyone agrees it is broken, few agree on how to fix it. Companies continue to tinker with their systems, making incremental changes every few years with no lasting improvement in effectiveness. Employees continue to achieve amazing things in organizations every day, despite this process not because of it. Nothing has worked because organizations, business leaders and HR professionals focus on PM practices instead of the fundamental purpose of PM and the paradigms, assumptions, and beliefs that underlie the practices. Companies ask their performance management process to do too many things and it fails at all of them as a result. At the foundation of PM 1.0 practices is the ideology of a meritocracy and paradigms rooted in standard economic and psychological theories. While these theories were adequate explanations for motivation and behavior in the 19th and 20th centuries, they fail to account for the increasingly complex nature of organizations and their environments today. Despite the ineffectiveness of PM 1.0, there are powerful forces holding it in place. Information on rigorous, evidence-based recommendations is crowded out by benchmarking information, case studies of high-profile companies, and other propaganda coming from HR think tanks and consultants. Business leaders and HR professionals learn about common practices not effective practices. This book confronts the traditional dogma, paradigms, and practices of PM 1.0 and holds them up to the bright light of scientific scrutiny. It encourages HR professionals and business leaders to abandon PM 1.0 and it offers up a more appropriate purpose for PM, alternative paradigms to guide them and practical solutions that are better supported by scientific research, referred to as “Next Generation Performance Management” or PM 2.0 for short.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to present the government-employee incentive program as a method by which government deficits can be reduced or eliminated, and government surpluses can be generated. Section 2 deals with the nature of the incentive plan, section 3 deals with the incentive chain in relationship to the plan, section 4 makes some remarks concerning the incentive program, and section 5 deals with statistics gathering under the incentive program. Section 6 makes some concluding remarks. The analysis begins by holding real appropriations constant. Government employees are given, in the form of additional income, a stated percent of the total amount saved out of initial appropriations. Each employee, in each incentive unit, receives an amount equal to the proportion that his/her salary represents of total salaries paid for that incentive unit.
