Book Synopsis Pissing on Demand by : Ken D. Tunnell
Download or read book Pissing on Demand written by Ken D. Tunnell and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drug testing has become the norm in many workplaces. In order to get a job, potential employees are required to provide their urine for testing. Pissing on Demand examines this phenomenon along with the resulting rise of the anti-drug testing movement, or the "detox industry," that works to beat these tests. Strategies include over-the-counter products like "body flushers" that sound innocent but are really designed to mask the presence of illegal drugs to kits advertised in pro-drug publications like High Times that make no bones about their real purpose. The first exposé of the detox industry in all its manifestations, this book is required reading for anyone concerned with social control, privacy, and workers' rights.

Book Synopsis Drug Testing in the Workplace by : Kay Lumas
Download or read book Drug Testing in the Workplace written by Kay Lumas and published by Dr. Kay Lumas. This book was released on 2007 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recognizing that alcohol and drug use in the workplace is a significant social and economic problem, various forms of drug testing have been branded as the solutions to a safer and more productive work environment. In this determined drive to find a userfriendly and accurate substance use detection strategy, a variety of drug testing procedures have been developed and used with varying consistently across industry groups. One such method, trace detection technology, however, has been employed in spite of the paucity of empirical evidence to validate its use as a stand-alone screening system for drug detection. Furthermore, research on the impact of false positive results of trace detection technology is extremely limited amidst a climate in many locales in which it is regularly used. With trace detection technology being used extensively in both the private and public sectors for drug screening purposes, the objectives of this research were twofold: To examine the efficacy of trace detection technology as a stand alone method of drug testing by exploring the lived experiences of commercial truck drivers who have experienced false-positive drug test results firsthand; and to explore the emotional and physical impact of false-positive test results generated by this technology on the individual commercial truck driver. The results from this research have broad implications for general workforces subject to periodic or scheduled drug screening, for law enforcement professionals who rely on a detection strategy that can produce false positive outcomes, for the legal community seeking understanding of this technology application, and for social science professionals who seek to pursue a provocative research topic.

Download or read book Drug Testing written by John Fay and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drug Testing focuses on the contributions of drug testing in the identification of the state of drug abuse and the implementation of policies and regulations making drug use unacceptable either socially or in the workplace. The book first gives an overview of drug-testing policy, facilitating drug testing and treatment, challenges to drug-testing programs, and state, local, and federal legislation on drug testing. The text then defines the problem of drug abuse, including dimensions of abuse, defining the problem and the needs of employers, employing a drug abuse survey, and treatment modalities. The manuscript ponders on the development of a drug-testing policy, education of employees, and training of supervisors. Discussions focus on the nature of learning, principles of supervision, training process, program implementation, basic assumptions, final policy content, and problematic issues. The implementation of a drug-testing program, collection of specimens for drug testing, and understanding the drug testing program are also underscored. The publication is a valuable reference for readers interested in drug testing policies, treatment, and effects of drug abuse in the workplace.
