Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sri Putchalapalli Sundarayya (1 May 1913 - 19 May 1985) was a renowned national liberation fighter. He was one of the founders of the Communist Movement in India and an indefatigable fighter for the rights of toiling masses of India. He led the glorious Telangana peasant armed struggle in the 1940s against the despotic rule of Nizam of Hyderabad and liberated many from the shackles of servitude under Vetti. Sundarayya provides a detailed description of the intricacies - both decision-making and the execution of plans by the various guerilla squads. The book provides a ringside view of the movement of squads, the network of communications and the police terror. It highlights the movement, the years in the forests fighting the Nizam's forces and then the Indian army. It provides a wealth of detail and any account of the Telengana struggle is incomplete without reference to this authoritative work.

Book excerpt: The "Telangana people's struggle," stretching from 1946 to 1951, was the armed rebellion of men as well as women against the oppressive policies of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Hyderabad was India's largest princely state with a population density, estimated above seventeen million. Curiously, almost forty percent of the whole population was then under the control of those landlords who mercilessly established their own feudal estates. The feudal network called for manual labor, including both men and women, in the context of the feudal business.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creation of Telangana as a separate state of the Indian Union on June 2, 2014 fulfilled the long cherished dream of the people of the region. In 1724, the Telangana region was part of the Hyderabad state under the Nizam. The Muslim rulers of the Asaf Jahi dynasty had no love for the country and tried to dismember India in 1948 by trying to create Osmanistan. Part I of this book describes how the people of Telangana fought to safeguard the unity of India. They succeeded in their attempts when the Government of India successfully launched 'Police Action' against the Nizam in September 1948. This part of the book concludes when the Hyderabad state trifurcated and Telangana was merged with other Telugu areas to form a new state called Andhra Pradesh. Part II describes why the Telangana people yearned for a separate identity as a state. The people wished for the golden age of the Kakatiya Dynasty. The Kakatiya rulers (11-14th century) patronised Telugu language and culture, secular ideals and had a corruption free government, equality of sexes and practised water conservation. The new Telangana government is trying to create a Bangaru Telangana (Golden Telangana) by emulating the rule of the Kakatiya dynasty.

Book excerpt: This book discusses the phenomenon of the emergence of the Gouda community in Andhra Pradesh Politics from a historical perspective from 1956 to 2009. This work is very rare since no work has been done on the particular Cates's socio-political upliftment in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State. The historical evidence of the origin and emergence of the Gouda community and the struggles carry forwarded by the leaders of this community. These dimensions are discussed in six chapters of this book. The theoretical and practical concepts and contextualization of the Gouda community's struggles in the entire Andhra Parades State were discussed with a historical perspective and the parochial vicissitudes of the movements of the gouda community were discussed elaborately and intricately. This work is confined to the socio, cultural, economical and political emancipation of the gouda community and its rise to prominence in Andhra Pradesh state from the post-independent period to 2009. The period of the study is significant because it deals with the changing conditions of the Gouda community over a period of a half-century. Since the year 1956 has observed historical socio, political changes in the form of formation of the Andhra Pradesh state, the study begins with that year and Telangana statehood movement taken a historical turn in 2009 with the formation of political JAC and all caste groups formed as the JACs and worked with Telangana movement hence the study ends in 2009. In the part of mainstream historical studies, the contributions of Gouda community leaders and the growth and various stages of the Gouda caste movements have not been accounted for well. Therefore, this work hopefully fulfills the dearth of historical study on this community.

The spread of new pathogens and the threat of antimicrobial resistance pose particular challenges in combating these diseases. Major Infectious Diseases identifies feasible, cost-effective packages of interventions and strategies across delivery platforms to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, malaria, adult febrile illness, viral hepatitis, and neglected tropical diseases. The volume emphasizes the need to effectively address emerging antimicrobial resistance, strengthen health systems, and increase access to care. The attainable goals are to reduce incidence, develop innovative approaches, and optimize existing tools in resource-constrained settings.

Book excerpt: There is a widespread consensus today that the constitutional flexibility to alter state boundaries has bolstered the stability of India’s democracy. Yet debates persist about whether the creation of more states is desirable. Political parties, regional movements and local activists continue to demand new states in different parts of the country as part of their attempts to reshape political and economic arenas. Remapping India looks at the most recent episode of state creation in 2000, when the states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand came into being in some of the poorest, yet resource-rich, regions of Hindi-speaking north and central India. Their creation represented a new turn in the history of the country’s territorial organisation. This book explains the politics that lay behind this episode of ‘post-linguistic’ state reorganisation and what it means for the future design of India’s federal system.
