Book excerpt: Transcendent Beauty will take you on a journey where you’ll see how easy it can be for you to shine! At the moment of conception, our soul fills us with a radiant light, as it gently whispers into every cell of every baby girl that we are beautiful. But as our mind begins to develop, a new voice begins to emerge: that of the ego. This voice tells us what we “should have done,” what we “must look like,” or how we “need to be.” It can talk so much, and so loudly, that if we listen to it long enough we’ll become so distracted from our soul that our light, once vibrant and radiant, becomes dull and dim. Often when we meet a person who has “lit up the room,” we say that she’s beautiful. The transcendently beautiful have an inner beacon that’s brilliantly lit and brimming with bliss. They’ve learned how to radiate light while calming the ego—knowing that when the mind abides by the soul, the body, in turn, is connected to this knowingness, and transcendent beauty follows. Such women SHINE! The world is magically attracted to them. And while most people talk about attractiveness as being merely physical, true beauty definitely comes from the soul. If you embrace and practice the principles outlined in Transcendent Beauty, you’ll see how easy it can be for you, too, to shine with an intoxicating power!

Book excerpt: Providing real-life examples on how to live in a fruitful partnership with crystal energy, this how-to guide fully explains the power of crystals and how they can be utilized. Crystals magnify the highest energy within, and both the newly spiritually aware and the seasoned crystal worker can gain insight and focus into their lives when combining this energy with the suggested positive affirmations to elicit forces of attraction and confidence. The book also taps into ancient and medieval cosmology to explain how crystals interact with the four elemental substances thought to constitute the physical universe: earth, fire, water, and air. By applying the wealth of information and experiences the manual has to offer, anything that can be visualized can also be fulfilled, whether extending the journey of the soul or wishing to improving surrounding circumstances, such as relationships, health, well-being, and career.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Intellectual Struggle for Florence is an analysis of the ideology that developed in Florence with the rise of the Medici, during the early fifteenth century, the period long recognized as the most formative of the early Renaissance. Instead of simply describing early Renaissance ideas, this volume attempts to relate these ideas to specific social and political conflicts of the fifteenth century, and specifically to the development of the Medici regime. It first shows how the Medici party came to be viewed as fundamentally different from their opponents, the 'oligarchs', then explores the intellectual world of these oligarchs (the 'traditional culture'). As political conflicts sharpened, some humanists (Leonardo Bruni and Francesco Filelfo) with close ties to oligarchy still attempted to enrich traditional culture with classical learning, while others, such as Niccolò Niccoli and Poggio Bracciolini, rejected tradition outright and created a new ideology for the Medici party. What is striking is the extent to which Niccoli and Poggio were able to turn a Latin or classical culture into a 'popular culture', and how the culture of the vernacular remained traditional and oligarchic.

Book excerpt: Contemporary deep-reaching changes – whether in financial or real economy, in Europe’s political conditions, in the context of scientific theories, in the field of global (environmental) security, or gender relations – are also a challenge to philosophy. The volume comprises cutting-edge scholarly articles from renowned philosophers with various geographical backgrounds and from different philosophical strands. Next to investigating general questions as to the relation of philosophy and critique (What is philosophical critique and which philosophical concepts of critique are of importance today? Where do we need it most? Where are its limits?), the articles focus on issues like theories of democracy and modes of election; the roles of emotions in the political realm; challenges from a widespread discontent in society to politics and science; changes to social identities and different theoretical approaches to social identity formation. The book is indispensable for all who are interested in what contemporary philosophy has to say on crucial issues of our time.

Book excerpt: Welcome to "How to Practice 52 Spiritual Principles: One Week at a Time for a Better Way to Live." This book is an invitation to embark on a transformative journey of spiritual growth and self-discovery. Over the course of a year, I committed to exploring and practicing one spiritual principle each week, delving into its essence, benefits, importance, and practical applications. The principles covered in this book are universal and transcend religious boundaries. They are designed to help you cultivate a deeper connection with yourself, others, and the divine. From surrender and honesty to compassion and gratitude, each principle offers a unique pathway to personal and spiritual development. The book is divided into two parts. Part One provides a comprehensive exploration of each spiritual principle, offering insights, examples, and spiritual perspectives. These chapters are designed to deepen your understanding of the principles and inspire you to integrate them into your daily life. Part Two is a collection of 52 poems, each corresponding to one of the spiritual principles. These poems are a creative expression of the essence and beauty of each principle, inviting you to engage with the concepts on an emotional and intuitive level. They serve as a source of inspiration, reflection, and meditation as you journey through the weeks. The structure of the book encourages a weekly practice, allowing you to focus on one principle at a time. You may choose to read the corresponding chapter and poem each week, using them as a foundation for contemplation, journaling, or discussion with others. Alternatively, you may prefer to read the book in its entirety and then revisit each principle as you feel called to do so. As you embark on this journey, remember that spiritual growth is a deeply personal and ongoing process. The principles and practices outlined in this book are not meant to be a rigid set of rules but rather an invitation to explore, experiment, and find what resonates with your own path. It is my heartfelt hope that this book will serve as a companion and guide on your spiritual journey. May it inspire you to cultivate a deeper sense of meaning, purpose, and connection in your life. May it help you navigate the challenges and celebrate the joys of your human experience with greater wisdom, compassion, and resilience. Remember, the true transformation lies not in the words on these pages but in the way you choose to embody these principles in your daily life. May this book be a catalyst for your own spiritual awakening, guiding you towards a life of greater authenticity, fulfillment, and service.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English drama between the late fifteenth century and the late sixteenth centuries is as diverse as it is engaging; this anthology brings together eighteen of the most interesting and important dramatic works from the period. The plays have been chosen to give a broad view of the drama produced in Tudor England. They testify to the eclectic tastes of sixteenth-century audiences, ranging from morality plays (Mankind, Everyman), to comedies inspired by the Roman plays of Terence and Plautus (Ralph Roister Doister), to tragedies inspired by the plays of Seneca (Gorboduc, Cambises). In later plays, morality plots rub shoulders with slapstick comic business (The Longer Thou Livest The More Fool Thou Art, The Three Ladies of London), and classical gods intervene in the affairs of England’s regions (Gallathea). While some of the plays offer pure entertainment, others have a clear political agenda. King Johan is presented as a prototype for English resistance to Rome’s Catholicism; Gorboduc’s decision to abdicate and divide his kingdom highlights the vexed question of the English succession under a childless queen. Other plays comment more obliquely on contemporary events. Play of the Four Elements reflects on England’s nascent maritime expeditions to the New World, while The Three Ladies of London comments topically on immigrant overcrowding in England’s port towns, and the dangers of England’s trade in the Mediterranean. Some plays push the boundaries of what the theatre can do in staging violence (Cambises) and questioning gender roles (Gallathea). Designed for undergraduate use, the anthology includes extensive explanatory annotations and a substantial introduction to each play; spelling and punctuation have been partially modernized in the interests of making the texts more accessible to students. In all this, the anthology follows principles similar to those developed for Christina M. Fitzgerald’s and John T. Sebastian’s Broadview Anthology of Medieval Drama; several of the plays from that anthology are also included here, while the rest have been newly edited for this volume, under the supervision of General Editor Alan Stewart.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living a morally good life today is a challenge. But we become fully and authentically human precisely by the decisions we make every day--some of them relatively simple, others complex and difficult. Once a choice is made, we still must claim the moral resolve and strength of character to implement it. Virtues are precisely the sustained habits that help us maneuver life's many choices and to become the good people that we want to be. St. Thomas Aquinas offers the classic Christian presentation of the four principal virtues of prudence, justice, courage, and temperance. But these are precisely cardinal or "hinge" virtues that provide the foundational framework for Aquinas's much broader presentation of a multitude of other virtues. Neglect of this larger array of moral attitudes for good living would miss the breadth of Aquinas's insights into a human life truly well-lived. Virtues Abounding explores, in contemporary language, the practical insights that Aquinas offers for the moral life today. Whether in university, seminary, or adult faith formation settings--whether for a deeper intellectual understanding of virtues or for personal reflection and growth--Virtues Abounding will provide new insight into a classic but too often overlooked storehouse of moral riches.

Book excerpt: Expand beyond the perceived limitations of the human experience with guidance from The Council, a collective of ascended masters channeled by metaphysical teacher Sara Landon, in conversation with Mike Dooley. In this powerful narrative, Mike Dooley engages in conversation with Sara Landon as she channels The Council. He explores the staggering wisdom of The Council to understand the very reason for life as we know it (The Dream), how to wisely navigate everything we experience between life and death (The Journey), how all of this fits within the context of reality (Eternity), and our intimate relationship to the Source of our lives and all things (God). The Council answers complex, big-picture questions like "To what degree can we transcend life's illusions without destroying the fabric of our adventure?" and "Are there other planetary beings physically among us?" with astonishing clarity. In The Council's words: "A new path forward is emerging and expanded possibilities for humankind are becoming the new way of living, loving, leading, and thriving in your awakening world. It is time for the leaders and way-showers of this Great Awakening to fully step into their power and guide the way forward. We bring forth the wisdom to support you in living your highest potential during this spectacular time!"
