Book Synopsis Maternal DHA Impact on Child Neurodevelopment by : Asim K. Duttaroy
Download or read book Maternal DHA Impact on Child Neurodevelopment written by Asim K. Duttaroy and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Special Issue, we focus on maternal docosahexaenoic acid, 22:6n-3 (DHA), and arachidonic acid, 20:4n-6 (ARA), on children’s neurodevelopment. During the last trimester of gestation and for the first 18 months after birth, both DHA and ARA are preferentially deposited within the cerebral cortex at a rapid rate. The mode of action of these two fatty acids and their derivatives at different structural–functional roles, and their levels in the signaling pathways of the brain have been continuously studied. These fatty acids are also involved in various brain developmental processes; however, their mechanistic cross talks are not yet clearly known. Recent data suggest that there may be a need for a balanced proportion of ARA and DHA in infant formula due to their complementary benefits. This review describes the importance of ARA in addition to DHA to support optimal brain development and growth in an infant, and functional roles in the brain.
Book Synopsis Applications of GNSS Reflectometry for Earth Observation by : Nereida Rodriguez-Alvarez
Download or read book Applications of GNSS Reflectometry for Earth Observation written by Nereida Rodriguez-Alvarez and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) has proven an effective and very valuable technique that has helped the scientific community to better understand Earth processes. Measuring the forward scattering that occurs when the Global Positioning System (GPS) signals reflect off the surface of the Earth has enabled multiple studies of the ocean, the cryosphere, and the land geophysical phenomena, allowing a better characterization and increasing the global knowledge of our planet. This book brings together a variety of the most up-to-date research on the GNSS-R field, covering multiple and very innovative applications.
Book Synopsis Remote Sensing of the Aquatic Environments by : Giacomo De Carolis
Download or read book Remote Sensing of the Aquatic Environments written by Giacomo De Carolis and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2021-11-22 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book highlights recent research efforts in the monitoring of aquatic districts with remote sensing observations and proximal sensing technology integrated with laboratory measurements. Optical satellite imagery gathered at spatial resolutions down to few meters has been used for quantitative estimations of harmful algal bloom extent and Chla mapping, as well as winds and currents from SAR acquisitions. The knowledge and understanding gained from this book can be used for the sustainable management of bodies of water across our planet.
Book Synopsis Archaeological Remote Sensing in the 21st Century by : Geert Verhoeven
Download or read book Archaeological Remote Sensing in the 21st Century written by Geert Verhoeven and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remotely sensed data from either air- or spaceborne platforms are often leveraged for archaeological or more general cultural heritage goals. However, despite the steady developments in remote sensing technology over the past three decades, the thoughtful integration of data sources and methods into theoretically aware archaeological practice remains relatively underdeveloped. This volume contains nine contributions which, each in their way, address different theoretical dislocations and practical shortcomings in the use of remote sensing products within archaeological practice. These contributions provide the reader with food for thought on these challenges, and so contribute to archaeological remote sensing as a more mature interdisciplinary field characterised by explicit, thoughtful, and theoretically engaged approaches to understanding the past.
Book Synopsis Sustainable Resource Management by : Juan F. Velasco-Munoz
Download or read book Sustainable Resource Management written by Juan F. Velasco-Munoz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-06-20 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Resource Management: Modern Approaches and Contexts presents the application of the current concept of sustainability to the management of natural resources, such as water, land, minerals and metals using theoretical field knowledge and illustrative real-world examples. Initially, the book defines sustainability, detailing its evolution and how it has been adapted to each of the contexts in which it is used. Furthermore, sustainability is made up of three main areas of science—environmental, social and economic—which are rarely considered together. This book is a complete reference guide to sustainability of natural resources for academics, researchers, practitioners and postgraduate-level students, and more. As sustainability is an interdisciplinary field, linked to most sciences, it is also of use to all fields of science that need to maintain sustainable practices and specific details on the methodologies and techniques needed for sustainable resource management. - Provides an integrated approach for modern tools, methodologies and indicators for sustainable resource management - Evaluates emerging trends and advanced approaches in sustainable resource management, detailing the most up-to-date research and management considerations - Describes advanced sustainable resource management technologies and presents case studies where applicable
