Book Synopsis Advances in Digital Image Processing by : P. Stucki
Download or read book Advances in Digital Image Processing written by P. Stucki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital image processing, originally established to analyze and improve lunar images, is rapidly growing into a wealth of new appli cations, due to the enormous technical progress made in computer engineering. At present, the most important fields of growth appear to emerge in the areas of medical image processing (i. e. tomography, thermography), earth resource inventory (i. e. land usage, minerals), office automation (i. e. document storage, retrieval and reproduction) and industrial production (i. e. computer vision for mechanical ro bots). Currently, emphasis is being shifted from signal-processing re search and design-innovation activities towards cost-efficient system implementations for interactive digital image processing. For the years ahead, trends in computer engineering indicate still further advances in Large Scale Integration (LSI) and Input/Output (I/O) technologies allowing the implementation of powerful parallel and/or distributed processor architectures for real-time processing of high resolution achromatic and color images. In view of the many new developments in the field of digital image processing and recognizing the importance of discussing these developments amongst key scientists that might make use of them, ffiM Germany sponsored an international symposium on 'Advances in Digital Image Processing', held at Bad Neuenahr, Federal Republic of Germany, September 26 - 28, 1978. The interest shown in this symposium encouraged the publi cation of the papers presented in this volume of the ffiM Research Symposium Series.
Book Synopsis Radiography in the Digital Age by : Quinn B. Carroll
Download or read book Radiography in the Digital Age written by Quinn B. Carroll and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2023-10-25 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long overdue, this new work provides just the right focus and scope for the practice of radiography in this digital age, covering four entire courses in a typical radiography program. The entire emphasis of foundational physics has been adjusted in order to properly support the specific information on digital imaging that will follow. The paradigm shift in imaging terminology is reflected by the careful phrasing of concepts, accurate descriptions and clear illustrations throughout the book. There are over 700 illustrations, including meticulous color line drawings, numerous photographs and stark radiographs. The two chapters on digital image processing alone include 60 beautifully executed illustrations. Foundational chapters on math and basic physics maintain a focus on energy physics. Concepts supporting digital imaging (such as the interpretation of graphs supporting the understanding of histograms) are more thoroughly discussed. All discussion of electricity is limited to only those concepts which bear directly upon the production of x-rays in the x-ray tube. Following is a full discussion of the x-ray beam and its interactions within the patient, the production and characteristics of subject contrast, and an emphasis on the practical application of radiographic technique. This is conventional information, but the terminology and descriptions used have been adapted with great care to the digital environment. Eight chapters are devoted directly to digital imaging, providing extensive coverage of the physics of digital image capture, digital processing techniques, and the practical applications of both CR and DR. Image display systems are brought up to date with the physics of LCD screens and electronic images. PACS and medical imaging informatics are also covered. Chapters on Radiation Biology and Protection include an unflinching look at current issues and radiation protection in practice. The radiation biology is clearly presented with numerous lucid illustrations, and a balanced perspective on radiation and its medical use is developed. To reinforce mathematical concepts for the student, dozens of practice exercises are strategically dispersed throughout the chapters, with answer keys provided in the appendix. Extensive review questions at the end of each chapter give a thorough, comprehensive review of the material learned. The Instructor Resources for Radiography in the Digital Age, available on disc, includes the answer key for all chapter review questions and a bank of over 1500 multiple-choice questions for instructors’ use. It also includes 35 laboratory exercises, including 15 that demonstrate the applications of CR equipment. Supported by prominent medical physicists and documents from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), this textbook provides the most accurate information available to radiography educators in all the aspects of digital radiography.

Imaging Informatics Professionals (IIPs) have come to play an indispensable role in modern medicine, and the scope of this profession has grown far beyond the boundaries of the PACS. A successful IIP must not only understand the PACS itself, but also have knowledge of clinical workflow, a base in several medical specialties, and a solid IT capability regarding software interactions and networking. With the introduction of a certification test for the IIP position, a single source was needed to explain the fundamentals of imaging informatics and to demonstrate how those fundamentals are applied in everyday practice. Practical Imaging Informatics describes the foundations of information technology and clinical image management, details typical daily operations, and discusses rarer complications and issues.

Book Synopsis Student Workbook for Digital Radiography in Practice (2nd Edition) by : Quinn B. Carroll
Download or read book Student Workbook for Digital Radiography in Practice (2nd Edition) written by Quinn B. Carroll and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 2023-09-08 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of the Student Workbook is designed for in-classroom use and organized in a “fill-in-the-blank” format. The wording of each question corresponds with the lecture slide series Digital Radiography in Practice: Instructor PowerPoint Slides, 2nd Ed. and closely matches the progression of concepts in the textbook. The guiding philosophy is to provide immediate or short-term reinforcement of lecture and reading material by focusing on keywords. Thus, the Workbook should be used on a daily basis, not as a self-test or review after whole units have been covered. “In-class use” is the most recommended method for use with the Digital Radiography in Practice Instructor PowerPoint Slides, 2nd Ed. The Workbook and slides are designed to work in tandem with each other to actively engage the student in classroom learning. The instructor may elect to require this type of classroom and award points for completion of each unit. If the Workbook is used as a reinforcement tool for homework, it is strongly recommended that the student answer the corresponding questions after reading each major section of a chapter. If students wait until after completing an entire chapter, they may have trouble recalling the keywords elicited by each question and are more likely to confuse different concepts. Major unit subheadings are included in the Workbook to match the textbook. For the purposes of unit review, self-testing or preparation immediately prior to a test, “Chapter Review Questions” are provided at the end of each chapter in the textbook. Answer keys to these questions may be made available from your instructor. This Workbook is an invaluable teaching instrument that allows the student to concentrate on the lecture by doing minimal writing while still challenging the student to participate in classroom learning. An efficient “note-taking” tool, it is an important reinforcement tool for homework and individual study.

Several new illustrations and helpful tables have been developed to clarify digital concepts. A new table, Operator Adjustments to Digital Image Qualities and Their Primary Controls, beautifully summarizes the effects of leveling, windowing, equalization, edge enhancement, smoothing and noise reduction, while related text reduces dozens of different manufacturers' terms to these basic operations in the table. Material on medical digital fluoroscopy and imaging informatics has been updated, with a continued emphasis on practical application and clinically useful information. Extensive support materials, including slides correlated to a student workbook, labs, comprehensive question banks and answer keys, have all been updated and improved.
