This book reviews the fundamentals of electromagnetism in passive and active circuit elements, highlighting various effects and potential problems in designing a new circuit. The author begins with a review of the basics - the origin of resistance, capacitance, and inductance - then progresses to more advanced topics such as passive device design and layout, resonant circuits, impedance matching, high-speed switching circuits, and parasitic coupling and isolation techniques. Using examples and applications in RF and microwave systems, the author describes transmission lines, transformers, and distributed circuits. State-of-the-art developments in Si based broadband analog, RF, microwave, and mm-wave circuits are reviewed. With up-to-date results, techniques, practical examples, illustrations and worked examples, this book will be valuable to advanced undergraduate and graduate students of electrical engineering, and practitioners in the IC design industry. Book excerpt: Bridges the gap between electromagnetics and circuits by addressing electrometric modeling (EM) using the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method This book provides intuitive solutions to electromagnetic problems by using the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method. This book begins with an introduction to circuit analysis techniques, laws, and frequency and time domain analyses. The authors also treat Maxwell's equations, capacitance computations, and inductance computations through the lens of the PEEC method. Next, readers learn to build PEEC models in various forms: equivalent circuit models, non-orthogonal PEEC models, skin-effect models, PEEC models for dielectrics, incident and radiate field models, and scattering PEEC models. The book concludes by considering issues like stability and passivity, and includes five appendices some with formulas for partial elements. Leads readers to the solution of a multitude of practical problems in the areas of signal and power integrity and electromagnetic interference Contains fundamentals, applications, and examples of the PEEC method Includes detailed mathematical derivations Circuit Oriented Electromagnetic Modeling Using the PEEC Techniques is a reference for students, researchers, and developers who work on the physical layer modeling of IC interconnects and Packaging, PCBs, and high speed links.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wave Concept Iterative Procedure (WCIP) method has found an increasing number of users within electromagnetic theory and applications to planar circuits, antennas and diffraction problems. This book introduces in detail this new formulation of integral methods, based on the use of a wave concept with two bounded operators, and applications in a variety of domains in electromagnetics. This approach presents a number of benefits over other integral methods, including overcoming the problem of singularity, and reduced computing time. Through the presentation of mathematical equations to characterize studied structures and explanation of the curves obtained, via validated examples, the authors provide a thorough background to electromagnetism as well as a professional reference to students and researchers.

They were as follows: 1) The lumped-constant circuit, which should be called a zero-dimensional circuit, in the sense that the circuit elements are much smaller in size as compared with the wavelength in all three spatial directions. 2) The distributed-constant circuit, which should be called a one-dimensional circuit, in the sense that the circuit elements are much smaller than the wavelength in two directions but comparable to the wavelength in one di rection. 3) The waveguide circuit, which should be called a three-dimensional circuit, in the sense that the circuit elements are comparable to the wavelength in all three directions. The principal subject of this book is the analysis and design (synthesis) theories for another circuit class which appeared in the late 1960s and became common in the 1970s. This new circuit class is 4) the planar circuit, which should be called a two-dimensional circuit, in the sense that the circuit elements are much smaller in size as compared with the wavelength in one direction, but comparable to the wavelength in the other two directions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetics is one of the fundamental disciplines of electronic engineering. The author explains the development of field theory in relation to common electrical circuits and components, as opposed to just circuit theory, thus giving the reader a broader perspective of electrical circuits.Essentially in two parts, this book will help students to gain an appreciation of the physical effects of electrical and magnetic fields. The first part covers the basic theory of electrostatics, electromagnetism and electroconductive fields and applies the theory to different transmission lines. It culminates in a comparison of the basic relationships that lie behind all the field systems covered. The second part covers the physical effects of dielectrics and ferrous materials on capacitors and coils. It is truly introductory with very little prior knowledge assumed. The mathematical techniques required to manipulate the theory are introduced from basics and there are numerous worked examples and problems. Self-assessment questions are given at the end of each chapter to allow the student to check their understanding of material before moving onto further chapters. This is an accessible and self-contained introduction to a topic that all physical scientists and engineers must get to grips with before developing their knowledge further.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is currently no single book that covers the mathematics, circuits, and electromagnetics backgrounds needed for the study of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). This book aims to redress the balance by focusing on EMC and providing the background in all three disciplines. This background is necessary for many EMC practitioners who have been out of study for some time and who are attempting to follow and confidently utilize more advanced EMC texts. The book is split into three parts: Part 1 is the refresher course in the underlying mathematics; Part 2 is the foundational chapters in electrical circuit theory; Part 3 is the heart of the book: electric and magnetic fields, waves, transmission lines and antennas. Each part of the book provides an independent area of study, yet each is the logical step to the next area, providing a comprehensive course through each topic. Practical EMC applications at the end of each chapter illustrate the applicability of the chapter topics. The Appendix reviews the fundamentals of EMC testing and measurements.
