This book presents 40 chapters organized in four parts systematically providing a wealth of new ideas in design, synthesis and study of sophisticated nanocomposite structures.
Book Synopsis Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry, Number 38 by : B. E. Conway
Download or read book Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry, Number 38 written by B. E. Conway and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-02 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises six chapters on aspects of fundamental and applied electrochemical science that will be of interest both to researchers in the basic areas of the subject and to those involved in aspects of electrochemical technologies. Chapter 1 is the first part of a 2-part, major contribution by Joachim Maier on Solid State Electrochemistry: Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Charge Carriers in Solids. Part 2 will follow in volume 39 to be published in year 2005. This contribution reviews modern concepts of the equilibria involving charge carriers in solids in terms of concentrations of defects in solids and at grain-boundaries, including doping effects. Complementarily, kinetics of charge transfer and ion transfer are treated in some detail in relation to conductance, kinetics of surface processes and electrode-kinetics involving solid-state processes. This chapter will be of major interest to electrochemists and physicists in the semiconductor field and that involving ionic solids. In the second chapter, Appleby presents a detailed discussion and review in modern terms of a central aspect of electrochemistry: Electron Transfer Reactions With and Without Ion Transfer. Electron transfer is the most fundamental aspect of most processes at electrode interfaces and is also involved intimately with the homogeneous chemistry of redox reactions in solutions.
Book Synopsis New Technologies in Protective Coatings by : Carlos Giudice
Download or read book New Technologies in Protective Coatings written by Carlos Giudice and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials are at the center of all technological advances; it is evident in considering the spectacular progress that has been made in fields as diverse as engineering, medicine, biology, etc. Materials science and technology must develop researches allowing the generation of new methods of protection to reduce fundamentally the losses of human life as well as the economic ones. The former are impossible of quantifying, while the latter are highly significant; thus, only those derived from corrosive processes in their different forms reach, in technologically developed countries, about 4% of the Gross National Product (GNP), while those derived from fire action range from 0.5 to 1.0% of the mentioned GNP. The book, in the different chapters, displays original systems of superficial protection and of low environmental impact to minimize the losses by corrosion and the fire action.
Book Synopsis Corrosion Protection at the Nanoscale by : Susai Rajendran
Download or read book Corrosion Protection at the Nanoscale written by Susai Rajendran and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion Protection at the Nanoscale explores fundamental concepts on how metals can be protected at the nanoscale by using both nanomaterials-based solutions, including nanoalloys, noninhibitors and nanocoatings. It is an important reference resource for both materials scientists and engineers wanting to find ways to create an efficient corrosion prevention strategy. Nanostructure materials have been widely used in many products, such as print electronics, contact, interconnection, implant, nanosensors and display units to lessen the impact of corrosion. Traditional methods for protection of metals include various techniques, such as coatings, inhibitors, electrochemical methods (anodic and cathodic protections), metallurgical design are covered in this book. Nanomaterials-based protective methods can offer many advantages over their traditional counterparts, such as protection for early-stage, higher corrosion resistance, better corrosion control. This book also outlines these advantages and discusses the challenges of implementing nanomaterials as corrosion protection agents on a wide scale. - Explains the main methods of detection, monitoring, testing, measurement and simulation of corrosion at the nanoscale - Explores how metals can be protected at the nanoscale using nanotechnology and nanomaterials - Discusses the major challenges of detecting and preventing corrosion at the nanoscale
