Book Synopsis Electrochemistry of Silicon and Its Oxide by : Xiaoge Gregory Zhang
Download or read book Electrochemistry of Silicon and Its Oxide written by Xiaoge Gregory Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It may be argued that silicon, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and iron are among the most important elements on our planet, because of their involvement in geological, biol- ical, and technological processes and phenomena. All of these elements have been studied exhaustively, and voluminous material is available on their properties. Included in this material are numerous accounts of their electrochemical properties, ranging from reviews to extensive monographs to encyclopedic discourses. This is certainly true for C, H, O, and Fe, but it is true to a much lesser extent for Si, except for the specific topic of semiconductor electrochemistry. Indeed, given the importance of the elect- chemical processing of silicon and the use of silicon in electrochemical devices (e. g. , sensors and photoelectrochemical cells), the lack of a comprehensive account of the electrochemistry of silicon in aqueous solution at the fundamental level is surprising and somewhat troubling. It is troubling in the sense that the non-photoelectrochemistry of silicon seems “to have fallen through the cracks,” with the result that some of the electrochemical properties of this element are not as well known as might be warranted by its importance in a modern technological society. Dr. Zhang’s book, Electrochemical Properties of Silicon and Its Oxide, will go a long way toward addressing this shortcoming. As with his earlier book on the elect- chemistry of zinc, the present book provides a comprehensive account of the elect- chemistry of silicon in aqueous solution.
Book Synopsis Electrochemistry of Silicon by : Volker Lehmann
Download or read book Electrochemistry of Silicon written by Volker Lehmann and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2002-04-22 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon has been and will most probably continue to be the dominant material in semiconductor technology. Although the defect-free silicon single crystal is one of the best understood systems in materails science, its electrochemistry to many people is still a kind of "alchemy". This view is partly due to the interdisciplinary aspects of the topic: Physics meets chemistry at the silicon-electrolyte interface. This book gives a comprehensive overview of this important aspect of silicon technology as well as examples of applications ranging from photonic crystals to biochips. It will serve materials scientists as well as engineers involved in silicon technology as a quick reference with its more than 150 technical tables and diagrams and ca. 1000 references cited for easy access of the original literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconductor electrochemistry deals with many aspects, ranging from fundamental semiconductor physics to complex effects, such as charge transfer processes at semiconductor-liquid surfaces or photoreactions at semiconductor particles. Its applications cover important fields of present and future technology including solar energy conversion or semiconductor device technology, micromachining, and nanotechnology. Providing both an introduction and an up-to-date survey to the whole field, this text captivates by its clear style and inspiring, yet solid presentation. Rudger Memming, an acknowledged expert, primarily addresses physical chemists and electrochemists, but materials scientists, physicists, and engineers dealing with semiconductor technology and its applications will also benefit greatly from this text.

Book Synopsis Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry 39 by : Constantinos G. Vayenas
Download or read book Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry 39 written by Constantinos G. Vayenas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-12-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Modern Aspects covers a wide spread of topics presented in an authoritative, informative and instructive manner by some internationally renowned specialists. Professors Politzer and Dr. Murray provide a comprehensive description of the various theoretical treatments of solute-solvent interactions, including ion-solvent interactions. Both continuum and discrete molecular models for the solvent molecules are discussed, including Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations. The advantages and drawbacks of the resulting models and computational approaches are discussed and the impressive progress made in predicting the properties of molecular and ionic solutions is surveyed. The fundamental and applied electrochemistry of the silicon/electrolyte interface is presented in an authoritative review by Dr. Gregory Zhang, with emphasis in the preparation of porous silicon, a material of significant technological interest, via anodic dissolution of monocrystalline Si. The chapter shows eloquently how fundamental electrokinetic principles can be utilized to obtain the desired product morphology. Markov chains theory provides a powerful tool for modeling several important processes in electrochemistry and electrochemical engineering, including electrode kinetics, anodic deposit formation and deposit dissolution processes, electrolyzer and electrochemical reactors performance and even reliability of warning devices and repair of failed cells. The way this can be done using the elegant Markov chains theory is described in lucid manner by Professor Thomas Fahidy in a concise chapter which gives to the reader only the absolutely necessary mathematics and is rich in practical examples.
Book Synopsis Electrochemistry at Metal and Semiconductor Electrodes by : Norio Sato
Download or read book Electrochemistry at Metal and Semiconductor Electrodes written by Norio Sato and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-10-09 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemisty at Metal and Semiconductor Electrodes covers the structure of the electrical double layer and charge transfer reactions across the electrode/electrolyte interface. The purpose of the book is to integrate modern electrochemistry and semiconductor physics, thereby, providing a quantitative basis for understanding electrochemistry at metal and semiconductor electrodes. Electrons and ions are the principal particles which play the main role in electrochemistry. This text, therefore, emphasizes the energy level concepts of electrons and ions rather than the phenomenological thermodynamic and kinetic concepts on which most of the classical electrochemistry texts are based. This rationalization of the phenomenological concepts in terms of the physics of semiconductors should enable readers to develop more atomistic and quantitative insights into processes that occur at electrodes. The book incorporates many traditional disciplines of science and engineering such as interfacial chemistry, biochemistry, enzyme chemistry, membrane chemistry, metallurgy, modification of solid interfaces, and materials' corrosion. The text is intended to serve as an introduction for the study of advanced electrochemistry at electrodes and is aimed towards graduates and senior undergraduates studying materials and interfacial chemistry or those beginning research work in the field of electrochemistry.
