Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rate per unit time at which the transfer of electrical energy takes place through an electric circuit is known as electric power. It is usually generated by electric generators but can also be supplied by some other sources such as electric batteries and solar panels. One form of electric energy can be converted into another form and the process is known as power conversion. The electrochemical or electrical device used for the conversion of electrical energy is referred to as power converter. It can convert direct current into alternating current and vice-versa. A power converter can also change the frequency or voltage of the current. The ever growing need of advanced technology is the reason that has fueled the research in the field of electric power conversion in recent times. Most of the topics introduced in this book cover new techniques and the applications of electric power conversion. Scientists and students actively engaged in this field will find it full of crucial and unexplored concepts.

Book excerpt: The energy transition initiated in recent years has enabled the growing integration of renewable production into the energy mix. Microgrids make it possible to maximize the efficiency of energy transmission from source to consumer by bringing the latter together geographically and by reducing losses linked to transport. However, the lack of inertia and the micro-grid support system makes it weak, and energy storage is necessary to ensure its proper functioning. Current storage technologies do not make it possible to provide both a large capacity of energy and power at the same time. Hybrid storage is a solution that combines the advantages of several technologies and reduces their disadvantages. Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems covers the modeling, control theorems, and optimization techniques that solve many scientific problems for researchers in the field of power converter control for renewable energy hybrid storage and places particular emphasis on the modeling and control of static converters for hybrid storage systems. Covering topics ranging from energy storage to power generation, this book is ideal for automation engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, professionals, scientists, academicians, master's and doctoral students, and researchers in the disciplines of electrical and mechanical engineering.

Book excerpt: This handbook deals with the manner in which rectifying devices are used to bild power converters. Most of the problems that are encountered are discussed, and their solutions are outlined. The realtively high-power range of devices and converters is emphasized, although most of the material is applicable to any size. 'High Power' in this case means diodes and thyristors rated over 100 amperes each, and converters over 10 kilowatts. The devices used could be any kind of rectifying device such as mechanical rectifiers, mercury-arc rectifiers, thyratrons, or semiconductors. However, since semiconductors have superseded all of the others in nearly every field, the others are ignored. For the studious, problems are included at the end of each chapter. Answers are given in the last part of the book.
