Book excerpt: Carmen and Raquel, multimillionaire and beautiful twins, decide to explore beyond the confines of the Republique de Sacre Cur, a mythical South American country, whose major export is COCAINE! Their wealth derives from its illegal distribution. Marcelino, their father, unwittingly acts as courier for a cartel, secreting into the country a good portion of the profits harvested abroad. His secret and unique M. O. is accidentally revealed to Marcel, an international police agent who decides to relieve the twins father of some of his millions. Marcels boundless greed propels him to scheme criminal plans that include kidnapping and/or trickery, assisted by Brigitte, his wife, and Rolando, a renegade. Once his first stratagem fails, Marcel contrives a strategy to marry the surviving twin. He succeeds but his avarice finally receives its due reward. Customer Reviews from Amazon.com Great writing, January 10, 2006 Reviewer: pollyanna "polly" (Florida) I had the good fortune of having received Florida, mon amour!as a Christmas gift.I was at once intrigued by its peculiar title. The story is fascinating and well-written. Florida, mon amour! has a truly original plot and the congruence of several foreign cultures and languages throughout the novel gives it a global panache. Mr. Mengibar has in effect broken the well-worn mold of the crime fiction and unrequited loves while showing us love in its various forms even the fake kind seasoned with unremitting greed. Florida, mon amour!, December 26, 2005 Reviewer: S. Bell "orange guy" (New York, NY) Florida, mon amour! is defintely not about Florida alone. It is about the United States, Spain, Sounth America, France and England. The convergence of their cultures and languages in this well-knit story gives it a fascinating glow of genuine originality and globality. It is difficult to put it down or to stop turning its pages as one is always expecting to find more titillating scenarios and peculiar situations. Love, death, greed, deception and an approriate denouement makes Florida, mon amour! one of the best novels I have read in recent years. A truly compelling, powerful and well-written story, December 11, 2005 Reviewer: Caribbean empress "Yvonne" (Florida) Florida, mon amour! is uniquely original not only in its plot but also in its development and harrowing denouement. Mr.Mengibar gets one's heart pumping frantically as you eagerly turn each page to see what will happen next. I fell in love with Raquel's rambunctious zest for life and her unfortunate fate, actually saddened me.An avid reader of fiction,I certainly recommend this wonderfully-paced,intriguing novel. You will hardly want to put it down.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traits that characterize the "language" of French Symbolism are the center of these essays. In interpreting major or previously neglected compositions by Mallarmé, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Claudel, Valéry, and Apollinaire, the author shows how each of these poets worked with the elements that distinguish this influential group of writers as a whole. Originally published in 1969. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition presents the extant journals of Pauline Clairmont (1825–1891) and Wilhelm Clairmont (1831–1895), the niece and nephew of Claire Clairmont (1798–1879) who was Mary Shelley’s (1797–1851) stepsister. It also includes a journal originally attributed to Pauline but which likely was Walter Gaulis Clairmont’s (1868–1958; Wilhelm’s son). All three journals are currently deposited in the Carl H. Pforzheimer Collection of Shelley and His Circle at the New York Public Library. Pauline and Wilhelm spent many years living and working in places like Australia and the Banat and their adventures are recorded in their journals. Pauline wrote a series of sixteen journals cataloguing her life; however, except for one journal, all the remaining journals have been lost. Her extant journal, written primarily in English but with French and German entries, documents her struggles in the Australian outback during the 1850s and her relationship with William Henry Suttor, Junior, who would later become a pastoralist and a politician. Pauline’s journal tells of her love for Suttor, her disappointment at his rejection, and her musings about her life in Australia. In his journal, Wilhelm chronicles his attempts to purchase a farm in Europe while Walter provides us with an account of his 8-day Austrian expedition. This new edition brings together these three journals, thereby extending our understanding of the Shelley-Clairmont family. The edition includes an introduction to the primary Godwin-Shelley-Clairmont circle and a chapter on the history of life writing. The editor provides extensive editorial notes and carefully researched chapters to contextualize The Clairmont Family Journals: 1855–1885.

Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book analyzes the theme of community in seven French Caribbean novels in relation to the work of the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy. The complex history of the islands means that community is often a central and problematic issue in their literature, underlying a range of other questions such as political agency, individual and collective subjectivity, attitudes towards the past and the future, and even the literary form itself. Celia Britton here studies a range of key books from the region, including Édouard Glissant’s Le Quatrième Siècle, Patrick Chamoiseau’s Texaco, Daniel Maximin’s L’Ile et une nuit, and Vincent Placoly’s L’eau-de-mort guildive, among others.
