L'étude en temps réel de la cristallisation, ainsi que celle de la transition vitreuse dans un faisceau de lumière synchrotron est présentée pour différentes familles d'alliages. Ce mémoire de thèse se conclut par la recherche d'une composition facilement amorphisable à base de Hf.

Book excerpt: La structure amorphe des verres métalliques leur confère à la fois des propriétés mécaniques élevées à température ambiante, de hautes duretés et limites élastiques, un grand domaine de déformation élastique, mais aussi des capacités de mise en forme intéressantes, dans leur domaine de liquide surfondu. Du fait de leur état hors d'équilibre, une cristallisation peut se développer lors d'un traitement thermique et conduire à la formation d'un composite, verre/cristallites, dont les propriétés sont modifiées. On s'intéresse dans cette thèse à la famille des verres métalliques massifs base Mg, principalement dans le système Mg-Cu-TR (TR = Terre Rare) : depuis leur élaboration par injection dans un moule de cuivre, en passant par leur caractérisation structurale, par DSC, diffraction de rayons X et microscopie, leur caractérisation mécanique, principalement par compression, dans leur état amorphe et partiellement cristallisé, jusqu'à leur mise en forme par extrusion. Des échantillons sont obtenus sous la forme de barreaux et présentent une structure amorphe sur des diamètres atteignant les 9mm. A température ambiante, malgré un comportement macroscopique fragile, des limites à rupture en compression supérieures à 800MPa peuvent être mesurées. Aux alentours de la température de transition vitreuse, soit vers 150°C, une grande capacité de mise en forme est mise en évidence, associée à des écoulements Newtoniens et des viscosités faibles. D'une manière générale, la cristallisation détériore les propriétés mécaniques du verre, notamment par une fragilisation à température ambiante et par une dégradation progressive des capacités de mise en forme à haute température. La grande stabilité thermique du verre permet tout de même de conserver un état amorphe lors des opérations de mise en forme et autorise la création de multi-matériaux verre métallique/alliage léger.

Nos études se concentrent sur les transformations structurales thermiquement induites (relaxation et cristallisation structurales) et leurs effets sur la thermodynamique et la cinétique de la transition vitreuse et la cristallisation aussi bien que la réponse mécanique à la température ambiante. Ainsi que la déformation homogène dans la région du liquide surfondu et les propriétés physiques à basse température. En conséquence, leur enthalpie de relaxation suit les caractéristiques générales admises malgré la nature unique de leurs structures. Le deuxième verre présenté montre une meilleure stabilité thermique bien qu'il présente une plus faible capacité à former la structure vitreuse. Les transformations de phases lors du chauffage ont aussi été étudiées par diffraction de Neutron ainsi que par les modèles JMA et de Starink. Ce dernier a été introduit pour étudier leur cinétique de cristallisation. Les 2 verres montrent de hautes valeurs de résistance à la compression, toutefois avec des contraintes plastiques sensiblement différentes à température ambiante. Leur déformation et comportement uniques à la rupture, dont les changements d'angles de rupture

The works of Zola, Tolstoy, Pérez Galdós, and George Eliot are in the most profound sense inimitable, yet continue to dominate the novel form to this day. Novels to emerge since struggle to reconcile the social conditions of their own creation with the history of this mode of writing: the so-called modernist novel is one attempted solution to this conflict, as is the ever-more impoverished variety of commercial narratives – what today’s book reviewers dub “serious novels,” which are an attempt at the impossible endeavor to roll back the past. Fredric Jameson examines the most influential theories of artistic and literary realism, approaching the subject himself in terms of the social and historical preconditions for realism’s emergence. The realist novel combined an attention to the body and its states of feeling with a focus on the quest for individual realization within the confines of history. In contemporary writing, other forms of representation – for which the term “postmodern” is too glib – have become visible: for example, in the historical fiction of Hilary Mantel or the stylistic plurality of David Mitchell’s novels. Contemporary fiction is shown to be conducting startling experiments in the representation of new realities of a global social totality, modern technological warfare, and historical developments that, although they saturate every corner of our lives, only become apparent on rare occasions and by way of the strangest formal and artistic devices. In a coda, Jameson explains how “realistic” narratives survived the end of classical realism. In effect, he provides an argument for the serious study of popular fiction and mass culture that transcends lazy journalism and the easy platitudes of recent cultural studies.
