Book excerpt: It has been polemically argued that the most important aesthetic productions of the twentieth century have not been objects, buildings, or spaces, but exhibitions. There is a curious imbalance, however, between the centrality claimed for exhibitions and their fugitive character--exhibitions collect artifacts, exist briefly, and are then dispersed. Documentary Remains explores what we know of exhibitions through questioning archives, records, documents, and other forms of remains. With exhibition research and curatorial practices gaining increasing prominence as a mode of conceptual and historical thought, this edited volume (based on a conference hosted by Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation) revisits the stakes of exhibitions as they have developed across the history of architectural modernism as well as their current position within the field.

Book excerpt: Brice Dellsperger's Body Double is the first monograph ever published on the artist's already cult film productions, with a long essay by art historian Marie Canet that addresses filmic remake, but also issues of models, gender politics, and representational chaos. Consisting in a large body of unpublished images, the book also invites the reader backstage--as in Kenneth Anger's Hollywood Babylon, after which this book is modeled--into the Dellspergian camp film factory, to get a closer look at the characters and personas that populate the Body Double series, and that are creations both of the artist and of his main performer and muse, Jean-Luc Verna. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has become necessary as a consequence of the rapid expansion of the surgical procedures and implants available for spinal surgery within the "AO Group". We have not attempted to write an in-depth book on spinal surgery, but one which will help the surgeon in the use of AO concepts and implants. We con sider the practical courses held all over the world essential for the teaching of sound techniques so that technical complications and poor results can be avoid ed for both the surgeon and, in particular the patient. This book is a practical manual and an outline of what is taught in the courses. It is intended to help the young spinal surgeon to understand the correct use of AO implants. The indi- tions given will aid the correct use of each procedure. . It must be strongly emphasized that surgery of the spine is technically de manding. The techniques described in this book should only be undertaken by surgeons who are trained and experienced in spinal surgery. Certain techniques, in particular pedicle screw fIxation and cages, have not yet been fully approved by the FDA in the United States. However, throughout the rest of the world, the use of pedicle screws has become a standard technique for the spine surgeon, since it has been shown to improve fIxation techniques and allow segmental correction of the spine. The use of cages has become more and more popular, specifIcally as a tool of minimally invasive spinal surgery.
