En 1874, después de tres meses escuchando unos gemidos desconocidos, sor María de la Cruz escuchó una voz muy conocida: “¡No tengas miedo! Soy sor María Gabriela. Tú no verás mis sufrimientos”. Aquella alma en pena le hizo saber a su antigua compañera que, dado que había menospreciado con frecuencia sus consejos, ahora tendría que multiplicar sus visitas para ayudarle a santificarse. Entraba en el plan divino que fuera sor María de la Cruz quien, por su santidad de vida, aligerara las penas y, finalmente, liberara a aquella que le había hecho ejercitar tanto la paciencia. Durante muchos años, hasta noviembre de 1890, sor María Gabriela visitó constantemente a sor María de la Cruz entablando entre ellas misteriosas conversaciones. La muerta fue respondiendo a las numerosas preguntas que le hacía su hermana en vida, quien tuvo la feliz idea de escribir todo lo que escuchaba… Así es como surge este manuscrito, son los apuntes tomados de una voz de ultratumba. En sus páginas encontraremos un testimonio sobre la realidad del purgatorio, sobre el momento de la muerte y el juicio. Pero es sobre todo una auténtica guía para alcanzar la santidad y tener vida interior de alguien que contempla la vida terrena ya desde la eternidad. Nos invita a todos a comprender mejor el gran amor que nos tiene Dios y la gran cantidad de gracias que derrama sobre nosotros.
