Book excerpt: Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo formular una propuesta didáctica a partir del ABP orientada al aprendizaje significativo de las Ciencias Sociales, en el grado séptimo del Instituto Técnico Agropecuario Nuestra Señora del Socorro, de Guaca, Santander; donde se evidenció una seria dificultad para recordar lo aprendido y una desconexión de los contenidos con la realidad de los estudiantes. Esta investigación de tipo cualitativo, con enfoque en investigación proyectiva, recogió información a partir de cuatro entrevistas semiestructuradas a un docente y tres directivos; y un grupo focal, a 14 niños y niñas. Desde este ejercicio se pudieron conocer las condiciones de contexto de los educandos, identificar los factores que impiden o facilitan el aprendizaje significativo de las ciencias sociales, determinar qué competencias propias de esta área del conocimiento deben ser fortalecidas, la relación de los contenidos con el contexto regional y la pertinencia de las estrategias didácticas aplicadas por la docente. Lo anterior evidenció que las competencias a fortalecer son las mismas que evalúa la prueba ICFES de Sociales y Ciudadanas enfocadas al pensamiento crítico. De igual forma, se entrevió cómo la metodología actualmente implementada por la docente es acertada; sin embargo, podría transversalizarse y enriquecerse más a partir de la enseñanza problémica. Lo anterior, permitió el diseño de seis talleres fundamentados en el ABP, con miras a repensar la orientación de las Ciencias Sociales, hacia un aprendizaje por competencias, menos repetitivo y memorístico y desde una estructura didáctica más crítica.
