Book Synopsis Single Family Houses by : Christian Schittich
Download or read book Single Family Houses written by Christian Schittich and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The private single family house is still very much the preferred choice of home. Yet in recent years there have been many changes not only in the personal situations of the residents, their expectations and desires, but also in the rising costs of energy and raw materials. This has meant that issues such as multi-functionalism, the use of innovative building materials or energy-efficient building methods are increasing in significance. In this completely revised and expanded second edition these topical developments have been taken into consideration. The organisation and layout of the first volume, with its concise and detailed project documentation, has been retained. The authors introduce floor plan solutions using contemporary projects which bear in mind changing family structures. At the same time, the contributions provide an in-depth introduction to planning single family houses, from the design of the floor plan to useful tips for the realisation. In addition to this fundamental information, 22 projects are documented, providing ideas and inspiration for planners, students and clients. The international selection of projects highlights current trends in planning and designing single family housing and reveals the tried and tested basics.

Book Synopsis best of Detail: Wohnen/Housing by : Christian Schittich
Download or read book best of Detail: Wohnen/Housing written by Christian Schittich and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Designing the British Post-War Home by : Fiona Fisher
Download or read book Designing the British Post-War Home written by Fiona Fisher and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-10 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Designing the British Post-War Home Fiona Fisher explores the development of modern domestic architecture in Britain through a detailed study of the work of the successful Surrey-based architectural practice of Kenneth Wood. Wood’s firm is representative of a geographically distinct category of post-war architectural and design practice - that of the small private practice that flourished in Britain’s expanding suburbs after the removal of wartime building restrictions. Such firms, which played an important role in the development of British domestic design, are currently under-represented within architectural histories of the period. The private house represents an important site in which new spatial, material and aesthetic parameters for modern living were defined after the Second World War. Within a British context, the architect-designed private house remained an important ‘vehicle for the investigation of architectural ideas’ by second generation modernist architects and designers. Through a series of case study houses, designed by Wood’s firm, the book reconsiders the progress of modern domestic architecture in Britain and demonstrates the ways in which architectural discourse and practice intersected with the experience, performance and representation of domestic modernity in post-war Britain.

Download or read book Living Plans written by Klaus-Peter Gast and published by Birkhaüser. This book was released on 2005 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Ground plan concepts for contemporary international housing are no longer dominated by standardized solutions and stylistic attitudes. They derive mainly from their occupants' widely varying lifestyles, so new principles for advanced spatial solutions have emerged very recently. The present basic work presents innovative ways of living in over 100 realized buildings. The examples extend from cost-optimized minimal housing via classical detached family houses and lavishly furnished villas to high-density detached and terraced homes in the city and on the outskirts. These novel Living Plans are analysed using elaborate new drawings of the ground plans, sections and spatial schemes, along with atmospheric photographs."--BOOK JACKET.

Download or read book Human-Computer Interaction written by Hans-J”rg Bullinger and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-09-01 with total page 1408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, one of a two volume set, is from the August 1999 HCI International conference papers presented in Munich, Germany. Human Computer Interaction: Communication, Cooperation, and Application Design focuses on the informative and communicative aspects of computer use. A larger number of contributions is concerned with computer-supported cooperation using a wide variety of different techniques. In keeping with the increased focus of HCI International '99 on internet issues and aspects of the global information society, many papers in this volume are centered around information and communication networks and their implications for work, learning, and every-day activities. Due to the growing number and diversity of groups utilizing modern information technologies, issues of accessibility and design for all are becoming more and more pertinent. A range of papers in this volume address these issues and provide the latest research and development results.
Book Synopsis Semi-Detached and Terraced Houses by : Christian Schittich
Download or read book Semi-Detached and Terraced Houses written by Christian Schittich and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-10 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire to have a home of one’s own is still the leading motivation for those who wish to construct or purchase buildings. Semi-Detached and Terraced Houses and ribbon developments constitute an affordable alternative to the single-family house, especially for young families. In times of tight budgets and rising investment costs, they represent a sensible alternative to the freestanding single-family house, particularly in terms of their use of open space. That they can also be appealing, high-quality houses is shown by the selected international examples in this new volume in the series In Detail. The projects presented are organized by building material and clearly documented with an area map, ground plans, and interrelated sections. The documentation of examples is supplemented by technical articles offering concrete support and assistance for the planner and building sponsor. In addition to analyzing the typology of the high-density, single-family house, the volume introduces different planning and financing models as well as energy-saving building methods and construction with prefabricated parts.
