This book was released on 2011-02-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eigenstructure control involves modification of both the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a system using feedback. Based on this key concept, algorithms are derived for the design of control systems using controller structures such as state feedback, output feedback, observer-based dynamic feedback, implicit and explicit modelfollowing, etc. The simple-to-use algorithms are well suited to evolve practical engineering solutions.

Book Synopsis An Algorithm for Robust Eigenstructure Assignment Using the Linear Quadratic Regulator by :
Download or read book An Algorithm for Robust Eigenstructure Assignment Using the Linear Quadratic Regulator written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) can guarantee a robust closed loop eigenstructure for full state feedback. The algorithm developed here takes advantage of the stability guarantees of LQR to achieve an eigenstructure close to desired but within the allowable region of LQR. The algorithm selects the LQR weighting matrices, Q and R, that minimize the distance between the elements of the desired and LQR achievable eigenstructures. The minimization is accomplished by using a simplex based optimization routine. Specific weightings placed on the elements of the desired eigenstructure define the relative importance of each element. The algorithm is programmed in FORTRAN and is designed to be run from the software package MATLAB. Two examples are examined to illustrate the use of the program, including a helicopter flight control system. The results show that this algorithm is a valid technique for achieving robust eigenstructure assignment with full state feedback.
Book Synopsis Applications of Eigenstructure Assignment to Design of Robust MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) Decoupling Controllers and to Reconfiguration Algorithms for Damaged Flight Control Systems by : Valentin F Gavito (Jr)
Download or read book Applications of Eigenstructure Assignment to Design of Robust MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) Decoupling Controllers and to Reconfiguration Algorithms for Damaged Flight Control Systems written by Valentin F Gavito (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A matrix treatment of eigenstructure assignment theory as applied to the generalized linear time invariant system is presented. New geometrical interpretations of the constraints on selecting desired closed loop right and left eigenvectors as functions of the open loop system parameters are then shown to give qualitative measures on the computational complexity of selecting the vectors. Numerical optimization schemes are then presented which satisfy these geometric interpretations for subsequent encoding of an interactive eigenstructure synthesis program, EIGENS. Robust decoupling controllers are then synthesized via EIGENS. A new theoretical application of eigenstructure assignment to reconfiguring damaged digital flight controllers is then presented. The thesis concludes with reconfigured solution demonstrations as applied to the F/A-18 aircraft. Keywords: Multivariable Control; Robust Controllers; Eigenstructure Assignment; Reconfiguring Controllers.

Download or read book Application of Eigenstructure Assignment Techniques in the Design of a Longitudinal Flight Control System written by Daniel G. Goddard and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of eigenstructure assignment techniques has received wide attention as a tool for designing flight control systems for aircraft with multiple control surfaces. Development of a method for choosing the desired eigenstructure of the augmented, closed-loop system which would meet the handling qualities specifications was examined. This method consisted of forming an optimal plant matrix which possessed desirable dynamic characteristics and performing a spectral decomposition of this matrix. The resulting eigenstructure was used as the desired eigenvalues and eigenvectors during the full-state feedback, eigenstructure assignment process. The resulting feedback gain matrix was used in the control system. This process was performed on a model of the X-29A using the canard, flaperon, and strake flap control surfaces. The resulting augmented system was evaluated using the Neal-Smith pilot-model analysis and also using an X-29A main-in-the-loop simulation. The results show that the method is very promising, although care must be taken that all anticipated control system dynamics are considered when forming the optimal A matrix.

Book Synopsis Robust Eigenstructure Assignment Using Positive Definite Output Feedback Control by : Adam Harris
Download or read book Robust Eigenstructure Assignment Using Positive Definite Output Feedback Control written by Adam Harris and published by . This book was released on 1999-03-01 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research investigates a method of eigenstructure assignment for the classes of controllers known as positive definite output feedback control. The research began with a closed loop system with output feedback control that utilizes a collocated actuator-sensor pair. It is shown that this system is robust because it is globally stable for positive definite feedback. Analytical analysis is then completed to determine gains that minimize a cost function that is the error between the desired and achievable (assuming positive definite output feedback) eigenstructure. Examples are given at the end of the thesis to validate the computer code and theory results.
