Book Synopsis Categories in Context by : Isabelle Berrebi-Hoffmann
Download or read book Categories in Context written by Isabelle Berrebi-Hoffmann and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the wealth of empirical research currently available on the interrelationships of gender and labor, we still know comparatively little about the forms of classification and categorization that have helped shape these social phenomena over time. Categories in Context seeks to enrich our understanding of how cognitive categories such as status, law, and rights have been produced, comprehended, appropriated, and eventually transformed by relevant actors. By focusing on specific developments in France and Germany through a transnational lens, this volume produces insights that can be applied to a wide variety of political, social, and historical contexts.
Download or read book De la presse à Internet : la parité en questions written by JULLIARD Virginie and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2012-11-21 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book After Misogyny written by Julie C. Suk and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rigorous analysis of systemic misogyny in the law and a thoughtful exploration of the tools needed to transcend it through constitutional change beyond litigation in the courts. Just as racism is embedded in the legal system, so is misogyny—even after the law proclaims gender equality and criminally punishes violence against women. In After Misogyny, Julie C. Suk shows that misogyny lies not in animus but in the overempowerment of men and the overentitlement of society to women's unpaid labor and undervalued contributions. This is a book about misogyny without misogynists. From antidiscrimination law to abortion bans, the law fails women by keeping society's dependence on women's sacrifices invisible. Via a tour of constitutional change around the world, After Misogyny shows how to remake constitutional democracy. Women across the globe are going beyond the antidiscrimination paradigm of American legal feminism and fundamentally resetting baseline norms and entitlements. That process, what Suk calls a "constitutionalism of care," builds the public infrastructure that women's reproductive work has long made possible for free.

This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Women, Feminism, and Femininity in the 21st Century by : B. Mousli
Download or read book Women, Feminism, and Femininity in the 21st Century written by B. Mousli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-05-11 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American women look at French women as having it all: sex, motherhood, work, and public office, while French women look at American women as puritanical, excessively feminist, and unable to "have it all" without guilt. The essays in this book by leading American and French academics and critics set the record straight by assessing the truth of each outlook. They conclude that facts are different from imagination, and that on many issues, French feminists could actually look to the U.S. for inspiration. This book offers the first comparative critical appraisal of how women live in the US and in France and suggests paths of reflection on what women can do to improve their lives in the twenty-first century. This is a must read for anyone interested in the nature of womanhood today in the Western World.
