This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current study evaluated the effects of self-monitoring by swimmers to improve their performance at practice and assessed the effects of reactivity to observer presence on their performance. Additionally, it investigated the accuracy of the swimmers' self-reports. Seven public high school swim team members used program boards to self-monitor in order to increase the number of assigned laps completed at practice. Reactivity to observer presence was assessed by having a confederate record the number of laps completed during observer absent conditions. A series of AB replications and an ABAB reversal design were used. The percentage of assigned laps completed increased during the self-monitoring phases. The self-monitoring and feedback phase showed an additional increase in the percentage of assigned laps completed, and also showed an increase in the mean level of reporting accuracy by the participants. The effects from the reactivity assessment were mixed; the percentage of assigned laps completed was lower on days that the observer was absent compared to the days the observer is present for only some of the participants. More research is needed to examine reactivity effects in sport settings.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of anaerobic training using a swim ergometer on sprint swimming performance have not been investigated in competitive adolescent swimmers. The purpose of this study was to compare 4-weeks of sprint interval training (SIT) with a similar ergometer training intervention on associated anaerobic performances. Fourteen competitive adolescent swimmers performed two pre and post intervention tests: 1) a 6 & 30 second maximal swim ergometer test, and 2) a maximal anaerobic lactate test (MANLT), (4 x 50 m short-course maximal swims with 10 second rest intervals). The results of this study demonstrated there was a significant improvement in 1) speed of the 4th 50m sprint, 2) mean power in 6 & 30-second maximal ergometer tests, and 3) 50m freestyle performance for both intervention groups after 4 weeks of SIT training respectively. As such, sprint ability may be improved through multiple modalities (pool and dryland) to elicit a positive training response.

Book Synopsis The Effects of Daily Training Logs on Behavioural Correlates of Self-regulation in Athletes by : Bradley William Young
Download or read book The Effects of Daily Training Logs on Behavioural Correlates of Self-regulation in Athletes written by Bradley William Young and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this dissertation was to examine whether daily training logs would promote adaptive changes to correlates of self-regulated behaviour in athletes. This thesis examined the self-motivational benefits that coaches have accorded to training logs, which have never been tested empirically in the naturalistic environment. Using a "bottom-up" approach, a series of studies: (1) established the face validity of activities that represented non-regulation by swimmers in the practice domain; (2) validated measures of behavioural outcomes of non-regulated training; and (3) implemented and tested an applied self-monitoring intervention that was designed to minimize swimmers' non-regulated activity, and to promote swimmers' intent and confidence related to self-regulation during training.
